A ongoing research in the best tools and ideas for learning how to code

Overview of categories of tools:

  • Online REPL tutorials (e.g. Codecademy)
  • Undergraduate drag and drop coding (for kids, e.g. scratch)
  • Visual programming tools (e.g. QuartzComputer / MaxMSP)
  • Interactive coding (e.g. iPython, ...)
  • Integrated coding (intergrates tool, output, debugger and examples) (e.g. Processing)
