## WinterBreak2 / 5.16.2.1.1 — ;log broke after running Universal Hotfix #206

Description

@seays-0715

Device: Kindle Paperwhite 3 (PW3)
Firmware: 5.16.2.1.1 (SF)
Jailbreak: WinterBreak2

Initial state

WinterBreak2 completed successfully. (but cannot found kpm)

Initially:

  • ;log worked
  • ;log kpm returned:
wrong arg, select from mrpi or runme
  • ;kpm returned Nothing found
  • KUAL opened normally

I also had:

E:\extensions
E:\mrpackages

but E:\mrpackages was empty.

What I did

I installed the current Update_hotfix_universal.bin through:

Settings → Update Your Kindle

The .bin file disappeared from the Kindle root afterward, and I then ran the Run Hotfix booklet.

The hotfix appeared to complete, but afterward the situation changed.

Current state

  • KUAL still opens normally
  • Kindle itself works normally
  • ;log no longer responds at all
  • ;log kpm no longer responds
  • ;kpm no longer responds
  • The Update_hotfix_universal.bin file is no longer on the root
  • New KPPMainAppV2 crash-dump books appeared

Before installing the Universal Hotfix, ;log definitely worked. After installing/running it, the ; command hook stopped responding completely.

I have not re-jailbroken or factory-reset the device after this regression.

What is the recommended recovery procedure for this state? Is there a way to restore the WinterBreak2 search-bar command hook without re-jailbreaking or factory-resetting?
