Thanks for the great work on ForkLift. I've been a happy user for a long time and it's become one of my essential macOS apps.
While investigating a thumbnail issue, I found what appears to be a compatibility problem with recent versions of QLVideo.
Environment:
- macOS 26
- ForkLift 4.6.3 (474)
- Installed via Setapp
- QLVideo (latest version from GitHub)
- QLVideo extension is properly registered and working
Issue:
WEBM and MKV files do not show thumbnails, Quick Look previews, or media metadata in ForkLift.
Steps to reproduce:
- Install the latest version of QLVideo.
- Open a folder containing WEBM or MKV files in ForkLift.
- Enable thumbnail view or select a file and press Space.
Expected result:
- Thumbnail is displayed.
- Quick Look preview works.
- Media metadata (duration, resolution, codec information, etc.) is available.
Actual result:
- Generic file icon is displayed instead of a thumbnail.
- Pressing Space shows only the file icon.
- No media metadata is available.
Additional observations:
- Finder displays thumbnails correctly.
- Finder Quick Look preview works correctly and plays the video.
- QLVideo is properly registered and functioning in Finder.
- MP4, MOV, JPG, GIF, and WEBP files work normally in ForkLift.
- The issue only affects formats provided through QLVideo (WEBM and MKV).
mdls reports WEBM files correctly as org.webmproject.webm.
- Older QLVideo version 2.20 worked correctly in ForkLift and displayed thumbnails for WEBM/MKV files.
- The problem appears only with recent QLVideo versions.
