Easyeffects, unable to load ash generated sofa files

I have had trouble getting the generated SOFA files to load in easyeffects in the past. Im not entirely sure what validation easyeffects does on the SOFA data but the only way I could get it to load was to crop the data to a short length, which suggests the metadata is ok but the IR length is too long.
To verify, try going to advanced settings & maintenance -> advanced settings -> max. output length and reducing it to something like 512 samples. Unfortunately that removes most of the reverberation so its not a good workaround. There is also the SOFA export convention option which has a couple of options but I expect both should work.
