COFC allows free rotation of the camera by holding down either alt or ctrl while also holding down the middle mouse button(MMB), and moving the mouse. Ctrl+MMB will rotate the camera acording to the center of the screen (default config will jump the camera to mouse location first before activating rotation) and Alt+MMB will rotate the camera about itself. When I use these actions, I do not have a fine grain control of the camera because subtle mouse movements do not move the camera.
