# CI/CD Setup for Year Calendar

This project uses GitHub Actions to automatically build APKs on every push.

## GitHub Secrets Configuration

To enable automatic APK builds, you need to add your OAuth credentials as GitHub repository secrets.

### Step 1: Navigate to Repository Settings

1. Go to your GitHub repository: `https://github.com/blooop/scratch_env`
2. Click **Settings** tab
3. In the left sidebar, click **Secrets and variables** β **Actions**
4. Click **New repository secret**

### Step 2: Add Required Secrets

# APK location
ls -lh app/build/outputs/apk/debug/app-debug.apk
```
## Workflow File Location
The CI/CD configuration is located at:
```
.github/workflows/android-build.yml
```
## Troubleshooting
### Build Fails with "Secrets not found"
**Solution:** Ensure all three secrets are added to GitHub repository settings.
### Build Fails with Gradle Errors
**Solution:** Check the workflow logs in the Actions tab for detailed error messages.
### APK Not Generated
**Solution:**
1. Check if the workflow ran successfully (green checkmark)
2. Verify the YearCalendar directory has changes
3. Look at workflow logs for errors
### APK Won't Install on Device
**Symptoms:** "App not installed" or "Package conflicts"
**Solutions:**
- Uninstall any previous version first
- Enable installation from unknown sources
- Check Android version is 8.0 (API 26) or higher
- Verify APK file isn't corrupted (re-download if needed)
### SHA-1 Fingerprint Issues
The debug APK is signed with Android's default debug keystore. The SHA-1 is:
```
Keystore: ~/.android/debug.keystore
Alias: androiddebugkey
Password: android
```
To get the SHA-1:
```bash
keytool -list -v -keystore ~/.android/debug.keystore \
 -alias androiddebugkey -storepass android -keypass android
```
**Important:** For the APK to work with Google OAuth, you need to add this SHA-1 to your Google Cloud Console OAuth credentials.
## Production Release
For a production-signed APK:
1. Generate a release keystore:
 ```bash
 keytool -genkey -v -keystore release.keystore \
 -alias year-calendar -keyalg RSA -keysize 2048 -validity 10000
 ```
2. Add keystore secrets to GitHub:
 - `RELEASE_KEYSTORE` (base64 encoded keystore file)
 - `RELEASE_KEYSTORE_PASSWORD`
 - `RELEASE_KEY_ALIAS`
 - `RELEASE_KEY_PASSWORD`
3. Update workflow to sign release builds
4. Register release SHA-1 in Google Cloud Console
## Security Notes
β
**Secure:**
- Secrets are encrypted in GitHub
- Not exposed in logs
- Only accessible during workflow runs
- Automatically injected into build
β οΈ **Best Practices:**
- Rotate secrets periodically
- Use different credentials for production
- Never commit secrets to repository
- Review workflow runs for unauthorized access
# Security Policy
## Secure Credential Management
This app implements multiple layers of security for protecting OAuth credentials and user data.
### Credential Storage
1. **OAuth Client Credentials**
 - Stored in `local.properties` (NOT committed to git)
 - Embedded in BuildConfig at compile time
 - Obfuscated in release builds via ProGuard
2. **Access/Refresh Tokens**
 - Encrypted using `EncryptedSharedPreferences`
 - AES256_GCM encryption scheme
 - MasterKey backed by Android Keystore
 - Automatically rotated on device
3. **Backup Exclusion**
 - Sensitive data excluded from Android backup
 - Data extraction rules prevent cloud backup
 - `android:allowBackup="false"` in manifest
### Best Practices Implemented
#### Authentication
- OAuth 2.0 with PKCE flow
- Server-side auth code exchange
- Secure token storage
- Automatic token refresh
- Proper session management
#### Network Security
- App receives short-lived access tokens
**Option 2: PKCE Flow (Mobile Apps)**
```
Use Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE)
- No client secret needed
- Dynamic code verifier
- More secure for mobile apps
```
#### OAuth Scopes
Currently requested scopes:
- `https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly`
- `https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events.readonly`
These are minimal, read-only scopes. Never request more permissions than necessary.
### Secure Communication
All API calls use HTTPS:
- Google Calendar API: `https://www.googleapis.com/calendar/v3/`
- OAuth endpoints: `https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/`
### Data Minimization
The app only accesses:
- Calendar event titles
- Event start/end times
- Event colors
- Calendar names
No personal data is:
- Stored permanently (except encrypted tokens)
- Transmitted to third parties
- Used for analytics
- Shared with other apps
### Key Rotation
Tokens are automatically managed:
- Access tokens: 1-hour expiry (Google default)
- Refresh tokens: Used to obtain new access tokens
- Auth codes: Single-use, short-lived
### Incident Response
If credentials are compromised:
1. **Immediate Actions**
 - Revoke OAuth tokens in Google Cloud Console
 - Generate new client credentials
 - Update app with new credentials
 - Release emergency update
2. **User Notification**
 - Inform users of potential breach
 - Instruct users to revoke app access
 - Provide steps to secure accounts
3. **Investigation**
 - Identify source of compromise
 - Assess impact scope
 - Document findings
 - Implement additional safeguards
### Security Updates
Dependencies should be regularly updated:
- Android SDK
- Jetpack Compose
- Google Play Services
- Third-party libraries
Run security audits:
```bash
./gradlew dependencyCheckAnalyze
```
### Reporting Security Issues
If you discover a security vulnerability:
**DO NOT** open a public issue.
Instead:
1. Email: [security contact - add your email]
2. Include detailed description
3. Provide steps to reproduce
4. Suggest mitigation if possible
We will:
- Acknowledge within 48 hours
- Provide fix timeline
- Credit reporter (if desired)
- Coordinate disclosure
# Year Calendar - Complete Setup Guide
## Quick Start
This Android app displays your Google Calendar in a year view with zoom functionality.
### What You'll Need
1. **Android Studio** - Download from [developer.android.com](https://developer.android.com/studio)
2. **Android Device or Emulator** - API level 26 (Android 8.0) or higher
3. **Google Account** - For calendar access
### OAuth Credentials
The app requires OAuth credentials to be configured in `local.properties`:
- Client ID: Your Google OAuth client ID
- Client Secret: Your Google OAuth client secret
- Project ID: Your Google Cloud project ID
These are stored securely in `local.properties` and **not committed to git**.
## Step-by-Step Setup
### 1. Open Project in Android Studio
```bash
cd YearCalendar
```
Then in Android Studio:
- File β Open
- Select the `YearCalendar` directory
- Wait for Gradle sync to complete
### 2. Configure OAuth (If Needed)
The `local.properties` file already contains your OAuth credentials. If you need to update them:
```properties
google.client.id=YOUR_CLIENT_ID
google.client.secret=YOUR_CLIENT_SECRET
google.project.id=YOUR_PROJECT_ID
```
### 3. Configure Android App in Google Cloud Console
For the OAuth to work properly on Android, you need to register your app's SHA-1 fingerprint:
#### Get Debug SHA-1 Fingerprint
```bash
keytool -list -v -keystore ~/.android/debug.keystore -alias androiddebugkey -storepass android -keypass android
```
#### Add SHA-1 to Google Cloud Console
1. Go to [Google Cloud Console](https://console.cloud.google.com/)
2. Select your project
3. Navigate to: **APIs & Services** β **Credentials**
4. Find your OAuth 2.0 Client ID
5. Click **Edit**
6. Under "Application type", ensure you have an **Android** client ID
7. If not, create one:
 - Click **+ CREATE CREDENTIALS** β **OAuth client ID**
 - Application type: **Android**
 - Package name: `com.yearcalendar.app`
 - SHA-1 certificate fingerprint: Paste the fingerprint from step 1
 - Click **Create**
### 4. Build and Run
#### Using Android Studio
1. Click the "Run" button (green play icon)
2. Select your device or emulator
3. Wait for build and installation
#### Using Command Line
```bash
./gradlew assembleDebug
./gradlew installDebug
```
### 5. Sign In
# Gradle start up script for POSIX generated by Gradle.
#
# Important for running:
#
# (1) You need a POSIX-compliant shell to run this script. If your /bin/sh is
# noncompliant, but you have some other compliant shell such as ksh or
# bash, then to run this script, type that shell name before the whole
# command line, like:
#
# ksh Gradle
#
# Busybox and similar reduced shells will NOT work, because this script
# requires all of these POSIX shell features:
# * functions;
# * expansions Β«$varΒ», Β«${var}Β», Β«${var:-default}Β», Β«${var+SET}Β»,
# Β«${var#prefix}Β», Β«${var%suffix}Β», and Β«$( cmd )Β»;
# * compound commands having a testable exit status, especially Β«caseΒ»;
# * various built-in commands including Β«commandΒ», Β«setΒ», and Β«ulimitΒ».
#
# Important for patching:
#
# (2) This script targets any POSIX shell, so it avoids extensions provided
# by Bash, Ksh, etc; in particular arrays are avoided.
#
# The "traditional" practice of packing multiple parameters into a
# space-separated string is a well documented source of bugs and security
# problems, so this is (mostly) avoided, by progressively accumulating
# options in "$@", and eventually passing that to Java.
#
# Where the inherited environment variables (DEFAULT_JVM_OPTS, JAVA_OPTS,
# and GRADLE_OPTS) rely on word-splitting, this is performed explicitly;
# see the in-line comments for details.
#
# There are tweaks for specific operating systems such as AIX, CygWin,
# Darwin, MinGW, and NonStop.
#
# (3) This script is generated from the Groovy template
# https://github.com/gradle/gradle/blob/HEAD/subprojects/plugins/src/main/resources/org/gradle/api/internal/plugins/unixStartScript.txt
# within the Gradle project.
#
# You can find Gradle at https://github.com/gradle/gradle/.
