Smart Lists endpoints/documentation

Hi again,

I’ve seen there’s now documentation on how to retrieve smart lists and their items, that’s reallly great: thanks a lot!

I’ve noticed some inaccuracies on the documentation/missing information again though:

• While testing with item type (e.g. movies/movie and/or shows/show), the Get smart list items endpoint returns the exact same set of results

• I found 2 endpoints (Get smart list and Get a user's smart lists) listing another one in their documentation to retrieve smart list items (the path being /users/:id/smart-lists/:list_id/items), but after testing its implementation (since both links redirect to nothing yet), it does not work at all. The method simply does not exist on your side. Can you either implement it or update the documentation to avoid this confusion and misleading please?

Thanks for the detailed report, both points were valid and the docs have been fixed in #900.

How smart lists work: a smart list is a saved definition (a source plus filters) that resolves dynamically every time you request its items. Each smart list is targeted to a single media type when it's created, either movies or shows, and can never contain both. Because of that, the type segment on the items URL isn't actually relevant: the items always match the list's media type, which is why you saw identical results for every value you tried. The sort_by and sort_how segments were in the same boat (not implemented), so the documented path is now simply:

GET /smart-lists/:list_id/items

On the broken links: you're right that /users/:id/smart-lists/:list_id/items doesn't exist and never did. Smart list slugs are globally unique, so items are only served from the top-level /smart-lists/:list_id/items method. The "Get smart list" and "Get a user's smart lists" docs now link there instead.

We also removed a few query params from the items docs that weren't supported (start_date, end_date, ignore_collected). The docs at https://docs.trakt.tv will reflect all of this once #900 is merged and deployed.
