Imagine that once you get through the process, you can install a bespoke app store - something very much like the Amazon app store. Except that the apps themselves collect ambient data from the phone (GPS accelerometer etc) as well as user input data ("how carby was your lunch?" "how long did you run?") and then forward them to researchers. Part of creating a new study could be creating an app that got installed on people's phones who had already consented to research.
