Keep user-data refreshes off player threads
When ExtraBackgroundUpdate is enabled, the 30-second task in loadTimer() reaches this player-owned callback and now invokes user.cache() plus offline-vote storage reads and writes directly on the Bukkit/Folia owner thread; slow SQL or cache population can stall that player or the entire Bukkit tick. Keep the cache/storage phase on voteTimer and schedule only the required player/reward interactions back; scheduleOnlineRefresh() introduces the same worker-to-owner handoff for offVote() and needs the same split.

Keep worker-safe placeholder updates on the worker
Whenever placeholder caching is active, scheduling the entire PlaceHolders.onUpdate() method here moves its non-platform placeholder calculations onto the global Bukkit task: that method resolves a VotingPluginUser for every online player and calls updateCachedPlaceholder() inline for all placeholders outside its platform classification. Those user-data reads are potentially storage-backed, so capture the online/player-owned state on the platform task but return worker-safe placeholder calculations to the storage executor.

Keep cache eviction on the storage worker
Every accepted background refresh now schedules clearNonNeededCachedUsers() on the global Bukkit task, even though this AdvancedCore cache cleanup is clear/remove work that may touch storage. With a large or slow cache this can block the primary tick (or Folia global region); leave this call in the runRefresh() worker phase because it has no platform-owned interaction to hand back.

Preserve requests raised during a refresh
If setUpdate(true) runs after the worker clears the original request at line 52 but before runRefresh() finishes, this second unconditional clear overwrites that new request. With the default AlwaysUpdate: false, a vote or mutation that occurs after its user was already scanned can therefore remain absent from top-voter, sign, and placeholder state until some later event happens to request another refresh; consume the request once when accepting the run rather than clearing it again at completion.

Preserve the pre-rollover refresh ordering
When a date rollover occurs with players online (or UpdateWithPlayersOnlineOnly disabled), TopVoterHandler.onPreDateChanged() calls plugin.update() specifically before the subsequent day/week/month handlers store the current top-voter maps, grant awards, and reset totals. This new scheduler handoff makes update() return before runRefresh() starts, so those handlers can consume the previous periodic snapshot and award or persist the wrong players. Chain the rollover processing from the worker refresh's completion rather than restoring a blocking primary-thread refresh.

forEachUserKeysiterates storage row UUIDs, whileplaceholderStorageUuidonly populates the separate placeholder-presence map. Player-backed storage users usePlayer.getUniqueId(), so the placeholder mapping does not alter the UUID used by this membership check.

Key online snapshots by the storage UUID
When offline mode maps a player's name to a storage UUID that differs from Bukkit's Player#getUniqueId()—a distinction already handled by PlaceholderPlayerPresence and placeholderStorageUuid()—this map never matches the UUIDs returned by forEachUserKeys. The real user is consequently treated as offline, so ExtraBackgroundUpdate skips their offline votes/rewards and online-only placeholder updates operate on a newly constructed user for the wrong UUID; basicBungeeUpdate() has the same raw-Bukkit-UUID lookup. Resolve the captured player to the published storage UUID before handing the snapshot to the worker.

Retain requests when the online-only refresh is skipped
With UpdateWithPlayersOnlineOnly: true and no players online, this clears requested before the platform callback takes the empty-player return. The fresh loss path in the current tree is therefore different from the previously reported completion-time clear: an offline vote can request an update, the next timer pass consumes it while the server is empty, and because AlwaysUpdate defaults to false later timer passes do nothing even after a player joins, leaving top-voter and cached aggregate state stale until another mutation happens to request an update.

Contain refresh submission failures before joining
If the bounded single-threaded voteTimer rejects this refresh during a transient capacity spike, the catch completes completion exceptionally and this join() rethrows on the separate scheduleWithFixedDelay task created in VotingPluginMain.loadTimer(). A periodic executor suppresses subsequent executions after an uncaught exception, so one saturated queue can permanently stop automatic background refreshes for the rest of the process; keep the scheduler failure contained and preserve/retry the request instead of propagating it to the periodic runner.

Capture each permission on its Folia entity scheduler
On Folia, runTask(plugin, ...) is a global-region handoff, but this callback then reads hasPermission from every player rather than scheduling that access on each player's entity owner. The same global permission read appears in VotingPluginBackgroundTask; use the existing player-aware scheduler handoff for each owner and only pass the resulting immutable UUID/permission snapshot to the storage worker.

Avoid joining while holding the plugin monitor
When the periodic task in loadTimer() invokes synchronized VotingPluginMain.update() from its worker, this join runs while that method still owns the plugin monitor. The snapshot callback queues runRefresh() on voteTimer, but runRefresh() immediately enters synchronized (plugin), so the caller waits for a refresh that cannot acquire its lock; the first requested periodic refresh can therefore deadlock the refresh and vote workers permanently. Release that monitor before waiting or restructure the completion so the worker does not reacquire a lock held by the waiter.

Restore stale user-cache eviction on the worker
On long-running servers that load transient or offline users, the refresh no longer invokes clearNonNeededCachedUsers(), and a repo-wide search confirms there is no remaining periodic caller, so stale user entries can accumulate indefinitely. Fresh evidence in this revision is that the invocation has been deleted rather than moved off the platform task; restore it in the worker portion of runRefresh() before reporting the cache size.

Keep the full refresh off the vote executor
When a refresh scans a large user table, this schedules the entire scan on the same single-threaded, 256-capacity voteTimer to which VotiferEvent submits every incoming vote. No votes can drain while the scan runs; once that executor and the separate 256-entry VotifierVoteOverflowQueue both fill, enqueue returns false and subsequent votes are discarded. Run the refresh on a separate persistence worker so it cannot monopolize vote admission.

Complete captures when a Folia entity retires
On Folia, if a player logs out after the global snapshot but before this entity-owned task runs, the entity scheduler can retire without invoking the runnable; the existing BukkitCompletionScheduler handles precisely this fallback. Here maybeComplete is then never called for that player, so the capture callback never fires, VotingPluginBackgroundTask remains marked running, and its off-platform caller blocks forever in completion.join(), permanently stopping later refreshes and potentially delaying shutdown. Use a retirement-aware fallback that decrements the counter for every captured player.

Avoid taking the plugin monitor during task lookup.
runRefresh holds synchronized (plugin) while iterating users. A server-thread reload or command call to setUpdate(true) can therefore block until the refresh finishes, which can stall a tick for a large user table.
The old update() method was already synchronized, so this change newly adds the same contention to setUpdate(). Use a dedicated initialization lock and retain the volatile fast path.

Bound the initial snapshot wait during shutdown
When an off-platform refresh reaches this during disable/reload after captureOnlineTopVoterIgnore has queued its initial global Bukkit task, Bukkit can cancel that plugin task without invoking its runnable; unlike the entity-retirement path, that initial runTask has no rejection or completion callback. This unbounded join() also ignores interruption, so the background caller can remain stuck forever and running never clears. Fresh evidence beyond the prior entity-retirement report is that cancellation of the initial global snapshot task still has no completion path; make this enqueue cancellation-aware or bound the wait.

Keep periodic user refreshes off the vote executor
With ExtraBackgroundUpdate enabled, the 30-second task now submits cache population and offline-vote/reward processing to voteTimer, the single-threaded, 256-capacity executor also used by VotiferEvent. With many online users or slow storage/rewards, this loop prevents incoming votes from draining; once that executor and the separate 256-entry overflow queue fill, subsequent votes are rejected. Run this work on the user-data persistence worker rather than the vote-admission executor.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winDo not complete the snapshot after a per-player scheduling failure.
Expected player retirement may use the fallback and omit that player. A caught scheduling exception follows the same fallback, however.
captureOnlineTopVoterIgnorethen decrementsremainingwithout recording the still-online player. If another player was captured, the non-empty partial map startsrunRefresh, which treats the omitted player as offline and skips its online-only processing.Make
BukkitCompletionScheduler.runreport scheduling failure separately from player retirement. This producer must fail or retry the snapshot on that signal instead of callingmaybeComplete. The existing correction for initial global scheduling failure does not affect these per-player calls.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Bound the wait for the storage refresh
When the platform snapshot starts successfully but the storage executor accepts and then never runs the queued task—for example, when shutdownNow() removes it during disable—snapshotPending is already false, so neither timeout branch exits and this uninterruptible join() waits forever with running still true. Fresh evidence in this revision is that the initial snapshot wait is now bounded, but the subsequent storage-task completion remains unbounded; apply cancellation or a timeout to this phase and restore the pending request when it cannot complete.

Prevent periodic user-refresh jobs from piling up
When ExtraBackgroundUpdate is enabled and one user refresh takes longer than 30 seconds, or the persistence worker is busy, loadTimer() now considers each fixed-delay invocation finished as soon as this execute() queues its work. Later invocations can therefore enqueue additional full online-user refreshes before the previous one completes, creating a growing backlog that delays other persistence work; retain a single in-flight refresh or make the periodic callback complete only after this worker task finishes.
