When more LMCache keys match than KV_CACHE_MATCH_MAX_KEYS, shrink the scanned count by the kept share so the extrapolation covers the dropped matches, including on completed scans.
Members are read-only and a refresh persists a snapshot and scans the database, so revert the member allowance.

The byte/chunk/model estimates and the storage layer are solid (I checked the scale-factor derivation across all three truncation branches, the zero-guards, and that all three adapters match and are injection-safe), but the orphanRatio metric is systematically wrong on clustered deployments, which is exactly where LMCache runs.
For a two_key layout, sampleLmcacheKeys probes the sibling with pipeline.exists(siblingKey), and siblingKey() flips the suffix. LMCache keys carry a @k%v tag, not a {...} hash tag, so the two siblings hash to different slots and usually live on different primaries. But collectionPlan fans out to one standalone, non-routed client per primary (scan-nodes.ts), so an EXISTS for a key in a slot that node does not own returns -MOVED, which surfaces as a rejected pipeline entry, and footprint-scanner.ts:58-61 then sets siblingExists=false. footprint-estimate.ts:135-138 counts every false as an orphan.
Net on an N-node cluster: ~(N-1)/N of kv_bytes keys are falsely reported orphaned, so orphanRatio pins near 100% when the true value is ~0. The byte totals are unaffected (MEMORY USAGE and TTL are same-slot), which is why it reads clean at a glance, but "100% orphaned KV cache" is exactly the kind of metric an operator will act on. footprint-scanner.spec.ts only mocks a single standalone pipeline, so the cluster path has no coverage.
Please make the sibling probe cluster-aware (route EXISTS to the owning node, or null/skip the orphan signal in cluster mode) and add a cross-slot test. Smaller follow-ups while you are here: evictedKeysDelta uses a summed-across-primaries baseline, so a primary joining/leaving between ticks produces a spurious eviction delta; non-LMCache instances run the full 200k SCAN + CLIENT LIST + MEMORY USAGE pipeline every tick with no back-off once detected:false; and triggerCollection throws a 500 rather than a 404 for an unknown x-connection-id.
- Treat a rejected sibling EXISTS (MOVED or any error) as unknown and compute orphanRatio only over kv_bytes keys with a known answer - Skip full footprint collection for a connection for KV_CACHE_UNDETECTED_RECHECK_MS (default 30 min) after a not-detected result; a manual refresh still collects and resets the window - Return 404 from footprint refresh for an unknown connection id

Really solid foundation for the KV-cache stack — the scan-nodes extraction is clean and the storage/test coverage is thorough. I found a handful of issues in the collector's failure modes, roughly in severity order. 1. Agent connections: the collector crashes after doing the expensive work (

Thanks for this, the footprint estimate is useful. I'm requesting changes for a few correctness issues I'd like fixed before merge.
Blocking
1. Collection always fails on agent connections (proprietary/kv-cache/footprint-scanner.ts:44)
sampleLmcacheKeys calls client.getClient().pipeline(), but AgentDatabaseAdapter.getClient() always throws. On an agent connection with LMCache keys, the SCAN succeeds and then sampling throws, so no snapshot is ever saved and /kv-cache/status keeps reporting hasLmcache=false. Because the undetected back-off is only set after a successful run, the full SCAN (up to 200k keys) and the error repeat on every poll. Sampling should go through DatabasePort.call or a port-level pipeline method.
2. Deleting a connection mid-scan leaves data behind (proprietary/kv-cache/kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:83)
onConnectionRemoved deletes the rows right away without waiting for a collect() that is still running. That collect() then saves a snapshot and repopulates lastEvicted / undetectedUntil / sampleKeys for the deleted id. The rows are never cleaned up (cloud mode skips retention) and the map entries leak. CveScanService.onConnectionRemoved already handles this by running the delete after the in-flight promise finishes.
3. Cleanup misses deletions the poller never saw (kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:79)
Cleanup relies on diffing knownConnections between ticks. If a connection is added, refreshed through POST /kv-cache/footprint/refresh and deleted within one 5-minute interval, it was never in knownConnections, so its snapshot rows stay forever. Hooking into the actual delete path (registry removal or the deleteConnection cascade) would cover every case and also fix #2.
4. False eviction spikes on clusters (proprietary/kv-cache/footprint-estimate.ts:139)
evictedKeysDelta treats any drop in the summed evicted_keys as a counter reset and reports the whole new sum. On a cluster the sum also drops when a primary is unreachable or fails over. Example: 3 primaries at 1M each, one fails getRole, and the sum goes 3M → 2M, which gets reported as 2M evictions. The previous value needs to be tracked per node.
Non-blocking
saveKvCacheEngineSamples(postgres.adapter.ts:3960) silently returns when the pool isn't initialized. The other new Postgres methods and the SQLite adapter throwDatabase not initialized, so this one should too.read()runs DBSIZE / SCAN / sampling / INFO / CLIENT LIST one after another per node, and runs CLIENT LIST on every primary every poll. INFO, DBSIZE and CLIENT LIST are independent and could run in parallel, and CLIENT LIST can be skipped once the scan has hitDETECTION_MIN_MATCHES.otherNonEmptyDbs(footprint-scanner.ts:95) duplicatesUnifiedDatabaseAdapter.listKeyspaceDatabasesfrom #544. Please reuse that (orKEYSPACE_DB_KEY) so we keep a single definition.- Matched keys go through
classifyKeythree times per poll (scan, sample, buildSnapshot).ScanResultcould carry the parsed keys forward. - Nothing in this PR uses the engine / sample / settings tables, their ~10
StoragePortmethods oronSnapshot. I'd move them to the PR that consumes them. Also note that the globallyUNIQUEotlp_engine_idindex would conflict if two connections register the same engine.
Housekeeping
Please remove the Co-Authored-By: Claude ... trailers from the commits before merge, so they don't end up in master history.
- Fire registry removal listeners so data is deleted even for connections the poller never saw, after any in-flight collection finishes - Skip agent connections, which cannot run SCAN or MEMORY USAGE - Track evictions per node so cluster failovers do not spike the delta

Thanks for the updates. The earlier blocking items look addressed and the attribution trailers are gone. I went through 389598f5 again and there are two problems in the key classifier that I checked against LMCache's source. Together they mean most real deployments won't be detected, so I'm requesting changes again.
Blocking
1. Tagged keys never match (proprietary/kv-cache/key-classifier.ts:28)
The tag group is the literal (?<tag>@k%v)?, so the only tagged key accepted is one whose tag key is exactly k and value exactly v. LMCache's actual format (utils.py#L556, and #L696 for layered keys):
s = f"{model_name}@{world_size}@{worker_id}@{chunk_hash_hex}@{dtype_str}" # [@{layer_id}]
if self.tags:
s += "@" + "@".join(f"{k}%{v}" for k, v in self.tags)So it's any number of @<key>%<value> tags with arbitrary keys and values. Any real tagged key returns null, and a deployment that tags every request reports detected=false and goes on the 30-minute back-off. The spec only uses the literal @k%v, which is why it passes.
Watch out for the suffix when fixing this. The legacy Redis connector appends kv_bytes / metadata with no separator (redis_connector.py#L281, #L300), so a tagged key ends like …@user%alicekv_bytes. A greedy (?:@[^@%]+%[^@]*)* would swallow the suffix into the tag value. Please add tests for multiple tags, with and without each suffix.
2. Only bfloat16/int8 dtypes match (proprietary/kv-cache/key-classifier.ts:15)
LMCACHE_DTYPES uses torch attribute names, but LMCache writes the strings from TORCH_DTYPE_TO_STR_DTYPE (utils.py#L455):
| torch dtype | LMCache writes | in PR list |
|---|---|---|
| float16 / half | half |
✗ (float16) |
| float32 / float | float |
✗ (float32) |
| float64 | double |
✗ |
| bfloat16 | bfloat16 |
✓ |
| int8 / uint8 | int8 / uint8 |
✓ |
| int16 / int32 / int64 / bool | same names | ✗ |
| float8_e4m3fn / e4m3fnuz | fp8_e4m3fn / fp8_e4m3fnuz |
✗ (float8_e4m3fn) |
| float8_e5m2 / e5m2fnuz | fp8_e5m2 / fp8_e5m2fnuz |
✗ (float8_e5m2) |
fp16 and fp8 vLLM deployments, which are very common, get zero chunks / zero bytes and detected=false. Please use LMCache's strings, with a comment pointing at TORCH_DTYPE_TO_STR_DTYPE so it's easy to keep in sync.
3. Retired connections lose their KV cache data (proprietary/kv-cache/kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:86)
The poller's onConnectionRemoved override calls forget(), which deletes all of the connection's snapshots, engines and settings. That hook fires whenever the id drops out of registry.list(), and list() hides retired auto members. For example, a sentinel-sourced primary retired during a failover has its engines, alert settings and history wiped, and they're gone when reactivateChild brings it back. Real deletions are already covered by the registry onConnectionRemoved listener, so I'd drop the poller override.
Non-blocking
- Refresh during a running poll (
kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:126):collect()returnsnullwhen a run is in flight, soPOST /footprint/refreshanswers 200 with a null body.return this.inFlight.get(id)would fix it. - Refresh skips the poller's filters (
kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:108): cluster children return a bare null, and external / sentinel connections throw a 500 instead of a 400. - MEMORY USAGE failures hide everything (
footprint-estimate.ts:69):isLive()drops samples whoseMEMORY USAGEfailed even when TTL/EXISTS succeeded. With MEMORY ACL-denied, all samples drop andnoTtlRatioreports 0 ("every key has a TTL"), so the unevictable eviction-risk check never fires. Keep the sample for TTL stats, and reportnullrather than 0 when there's no data. saveKvCacheEngineSamples(postgres.adapter.ts:3960) still returns silently when the pool isn't initialized; the other methods throw.read()still runs DBSIZE / SCAN / sampling / INFO / CLIENT LIST strictly in sequence and pulls a full CLIENT LIST from every primary every tick. Run INFO and CLIENT LIST in parallel with the scan, and skip CLIENT LIST once the scan has detected LMCache.classifyKeystill runs up to four times per key per tick (scan, sample, buildSnapshot, rememberSampleKey).scanLmcacheKeyscould pass the parsed results through.planFor()(kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:161) copiesKeyAnalyticsService.planForword for word. Exporting a sharedplanForConnection(registry, id)next tocollectionPlanwould keep them from drifting.
- Accept any number of @<key>%<value> tags without swallowing the kv_bytes / metadata suffix - Use LMCache's TORCH_DTYPE_TO_STR_DTYPE strings (half, float, fp8_*)
- Drop the poller onConnectionRemoved override, which wiped data when a retired auto member left registry.list() - Rely on the registry removal listener for real deletions
- Reject external, sentinel and seed-collected connections with a 400 - Return the running collection instead of null
- Count samples whose key still exists toward the no-TTL ratio even when MEMORY USAGE is denied - Report noTtlRatio as null when no sample answered TTL
- Run INFO and CLIENT LIST in parallel with SCAN and sampling - Skip CLIENT LIST once the scan has detected LMCache keys
- Carry the parsed key from the scan through sampling, the snapshot and the sample key instead of re-running classifyKey

Thanks, this round fixed a lot. I checked e7aa5c00 against the code, and these are now resolved:
- the key classifier: arbitrary/multiple tags with and without suffix, and LMCache's real dtype strings (I ran the regex against real key shapes and it parses them all correctly)
- removal cleanup: registry listener only, retired members are left alone, and
forget()waits for the in-flight run - partial cluster reads (
allSettled), and per-nodeevicted_keysdeltas - refresh: returns the in-flight run, and rejects agent/external/sentinel/child connections with a 400
- TTL stats survive MEMORY USAGE failures, and
noTtlRatioisnullwithout data - INFO / CLIENT LIST in parallel with the scan, CLIENT LIST skipped once detected, keys classified once,
planForConnectionshared saveKvCacheEngineSamplesthrows when the pool isn't initialized
A few things are still open. The first three need fixing before merge.
Blocking
1. Layerwise keys inflate the chunk count (proprietary/kv-cache/footprint-estimate.ts:81)
nodeTotals counts every non-metadata key as a chunk, but the classifier also accepts layered keys (…@dtype@<layer>). In layerwise mode LMCache stores one key per layer per chunk (LayerCacheEngineKey, via split_layers). So a 32-layer model with 1,000 cached chunks reports about 32,000, and perModel is inflated the same way. Count distinct (model, worldSize, workerId, chunkHash, dtype) for layered keys, or divide by the number of layers seen. A related question: with TP > 1 each worker_id stores its own shard of the same chunk, so decide whether "chunks" should count logical chunks or keys per worker, and label it accordingly.
2. Rebase onto master, and make ownDb match the DB actually scanned (kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:145)
The branch is 33 commits behind master (merge base 2ad51c8f, before #544), so expect conflicts around key-analytics.service.ts and scan-nodes.ts. On this base, UnifiedDatabaseAdapter never SELECTs dbIndex, so SCAN/DBSIZE always run on db0, while otherNonEmptyDbs(info, config.dbIndex) excludes dbIndex. With dbIndex=2 and LMCache in db2, the scan finds nothing in db0 and the hint lists db0 (the DB just scanned) while hiding db2. #544 makes the adapter honor dbIndex, but it still falls back to db0 when SELECT is rejected, so ownDb should come from the DB actually selected rather than the config. After the rebase, please reuse #544's listKeyspaceDatabases instead of otherNonEmptyDbs (footprint-scanner.ts:95).
3. Missing connection header falls back to the wrong id (proprietary/kv-cache/kv-cache.controller.ts:34, :43, :59)
connectionId || ENV_DEFAULT_ID uses the literal env id instead of the registry's actual default. On a deployment where connections were added through the UI/API, GET /kv-cache/status without x-connection-id always returns empty, and POST /kv-cache/footprint/refresh returns 404 Connection 'env-default' not found. The existing requireConnectionId(registry, id) helper handles this.
Non-blocking
- Env parsing (
kv-cache-footprint.service.ts:35):parseIntaccepts numeric prefixes, soKV_CACHE_SCAN_MAX_KEYS=1e6becomes 1 andKV_CACHE_SAMPLE_KEYS=500kbecomes 500. Both pass the floor check silently. UseNumber()+Number.isInteger, and log when falling back. - Engine sample retention (
apps/api/src/retention/retention-sweep.ts:37):kv_cache_engine_samplesis pruned withcutoffrather thansampleCutoff, which the sweep's own doc comment reserves for high-volume sample stores. In cloud on a 90-day tier, 15s samples per engine/model are kept for 90 days instead of 7. - History silently truncated (
kv-cache-status.service.ts:37): history returns only the newest 10,000 snapshots. At the minimum interval (60s), a 31-day request covers only the last ~6.9 days and the chart looks like data starts a week ago. Downsample (common/utils/downsample.ts) instead of truncating. - Per-model split across nodes (
footprint-estimate.ts:89):splitPerModelpools raw samples from all nodes, but each node's totals were scaled by its owndbSize/scannedKeys. A model on a fully-scanned node gets the same per-sample weight as one on a node scaled 500×, so splits skew whenever nodes are sampled at different rates. Compute per-model totals per node, then sum. - Per-model needs MEMORY (
footprint-estimate.ts:158):perModelcomes only from live samples, so it's[]when MEMORY USAGE is denied, even though every matched key carries its model and dtype. Chunk counts per model can come frommatchedKeys, leaving only bytes dependent on MEMORY. - Orphan ratio is one-sided (
footprint-estimate.ts:134): onlykv_byteswithoutmetadatais counted. The scanner already probes the sibling of every sampled metadata key and then discards the result. Underallkeys-lru, the largekv_bytesvalues are the ones evicted, so the common orphan case reads as 0. - TTL errors become "vanished" (
footprint-scanner.ts:67): a TTL error is mapped to-2, which drops samples whose MEMORY USAGE succeeded. AnullTTL would keep the bytes. - Scan coverage estimate (
footprint-scanner.ts:33): when the scan stops early, walked = min(iterations * COUNT, dbSize). COUNT is a hint for buckets visited, not keys returned, soscalecan collapse to 1 while a good part of the keyspace was never visited. - Engine upsert differs by adapter: Postgres/SQLite
ON CONFLICTkeepconnection_id,sourceandcreated_at, whileMemoryAdapterreplaces the whole row. All three return the input rather than what was stored, so re-linking an engine to another connection behaves differently on SQL than in memory. - SQLite migration: Postgres has
ALTER COLUMN no_ttl_ratio DROP NOT NULLfor tables from earlier builds, but SQLite has no equivalent. This only affects dev databases created from earlier commits of this branch; either add it or drop the Postgres one for consistency. notifyRemovedonly catches synchronous throws, and listeners are typed(id) => void. The current listener is safe becauseforget()catches its own errors, but an async listener added later could cause an unhandled rejection. Consider typing listeners asvoid | Promise<void>and catching both.pickSampleduplicates the stride sampling indownsampleSeries.

Overview
Adds Pro-tier KV cache monitoring (
KV_CACHE_MONITORING) for LMCache keys in Valkey/Redis, including shared types, storage, periodic collection, and HTTP APIs. This is positioned as part 1 of a larger KV cache monitoring stack.Footprint collection scans LMCache-shaped keys (budgeted
SCAN, sampledMEMORY USAGE/ TTL / two-key sibling checks), estimates chunk count and bytes with per-model breakdown, and detects GLIDE LMCache clients. Cluster seeds scan reachable primaries; agent, external, sentinel, and cluster-member connections are rejected or skipped. The poller runs regardless of license but only persists on licensed ticks; undetected instances back off until recheck. Connection removal triggers cleanup via newConnectionRegistry.onConnectionRemovedlisteners.Persistence extends
