Changelog

This changelog only contains changes from the first pypi release (0.5.4.3) onwards.

Latest Changes:

  • 1.7.2.dev0

    • JBoolean/JByte/JChar/JInt/JShort/JLong/JFloat/ JDouble are no longer tracked by the cyclic garbage collector. They were previously declared as ordinary Python class statements, which unconditionally pick up GC tracking from CPython even when none of these types can ever hold an arbitrary Python reference or participate in a reference cycle; every boxed array element pulled into Python paid for that bookkeeping on allocation and deallocation for no benefit. No user-visible API change.

    • Fixed Javadoc extraction (help()/__doc__ on Java classes) being silently broken on JDK 17+: an unhandled <wbr> tag (used by JDK 21+'s javadoc output to hint line-wraps in long signatures) crashed extraction outright, and a https: typo in the external-link check caused every reference to a JDK platform class to render as a mangled path instead of a clean link, since JDK 12+ auto-links platform classes to https://docs.oracle.com even without an explicit -link argument. Also fixed a related double-rendering bug for <a><code>...</code></a> links exposed by the above fix. #963, #1116

    • Fixed classpath directories/jars containing a "+" character having it silently converted to a space on import, corrupting the resolved resource path. #1413

    • Reworked the internal object layout for Java-backed Python objects to use fixed, type-baked offsets instead of a runtime allocator that re-derived each object's layout from version-sensitive CPython internals on every access. For the boxed Long/Boolean/Character wrapper types this also removes their per-instance Java-value storage entirely (reconstructed on demand instead), shrinking those instances and eliminating a version-gated digit-layout workaround. No user-visible API change; boxed wrapper instances no longer retain Java-side reference identity across repeated round-trips through Python.

    • Fixed heap corruption when boxing large JLong/JInt/JShort/JByte/JBoolean values on Python 3.8-3.11, caused by a fixed-offset allocator layout assumption colliding with CPython's own implicit __dict__ slot for variable-length int subclasses.

    • Fixed a GC refcount-accounting bug in the internal Java-class metaclass where tp_traverse/tp_clear did not chain to type's own implementation.
