Closes #478.

What

The git-rules gate (repo-work-read-git-rules) now asks for one full read per session per note version instead of one per turn.

  • verify._update_git_rules_completeness records a full read for the session (gitrules-ack-<session>.json in the state dir) with the note's version token: read-note's version, or OmiStore.note_version for a read that carries none.
  • guard._has_consulted_git_rules passes when that record matches the version the vault holds now. decide takes an optional omi_dir, and check_action passes it. Without a vault the per-turn rule applies, as before.
  • The per-turn reset (begin_turn, omi-gate-reset.sh) leaves the record alone. A SessionStart with source=compact|clear clears it, because the note text has left the context. resume keeps it. omind guard reset with no session (clear_all_gates) reaps it.
  • The block message now says one full read per session is enough.
  • Tightened: a section or offset/limit read at max_chars 65536 used to pass through the hard-cap waiver as "best possible". The waiver now covers truncation only.

Why

One session on 2026-10-14 re-read the same 11.5k-char note 8 times (~23k tokens).

Tests

New tests in tests/test_guard.py:

  • the first full read clears the gate
  • the next turn, with the same version, stays cleared
  • a changed note requires a re-read
  • a truncated or section-only read records nothing
  • a new session or a compaction requires a read, and a resume does not
  • a by-hand reset reaps the record
  • the message text

Local results: ruff check . and mypy src are clean, and pip-audit finds no vulnerabilities. Full pytest: 3955 passed. Two test_name_timelines.py::test_preflight_names_the_ranked_note_not_a_newer_decoy cases also fail locally on unmodified main (they depend on this host's environment) and pass in CI.

Version 10.3.1 -> 10.3.2, with a CHANGELOG entry and BACKLOG ticked.

Proudly Made in Nebraska. Go Big Red! 🌽 https://xkcd.com/2347/

…on (#478)

The git-rules gate demanded a full read-note of "Operational Rules - Git Repos and Secrets" (~2.9k tokens) on every user message; one session re-read the identical note 8 times. A full read is now remembered for the session with the note's version token and carries across turns until the note changes, the context is compacted or cleared, or a new session starts. Truncated, section-only and offset/limit reads still never count; a section read at the 65536 cap no longer slips through the hard-cap waiver.

Bumps 10.3.1 -> 10.3.2.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • A full read of the Git rules note now satisfies the check for the rest of the session, as long as the note remains unchanged.
    • A new session, a changed note, or compacted or cleared context requires another full read. Resuming a session preserves the previous read.
    • Section-only, offset, limit, and truncated reads do not count as full reads.
  • Documentation
    • Updated release notes and backlog entry for version 10.3.2.

The Git-rules gate now accepts a full note read for the same session while the note version remains unchanged. Partial reads do not count. A new session, note change, context compaction or clearing, or guard reset clears or invalidates the acknowledgement.

Changes: Git-rules session acknowledgement

Layer / File(s) Summary
Record full reads by note version
src/omind/verify.py, src/omind/guard.py, tests/test_guard.py
A full read records the session and note version. Section-only and offset/limit reads remain partial, as do truncated reads. Tests cover acknowledgement recording, reuse across turns, and note-version changes.
Check and clear acknowledgements
src/omind/guard.py, src/omind/hooks.py, tests/test_guard.py, BACKLOG.md, CHANGELOG.md, pyproject.toml, src/omind/__init__.py
The gate accepts an acknowledgement only when its note version matches the current version. Compact and clear session starts clear it; reset also removes acknowledgement files. Tests cover session lifecycle and reset behavior. Release notes and project version identify version 10.3.2.

The Git-rules gate is meant to require one full read of the current rules note per session. Two paths can still let repository work proceed without that read. One relies on an earlier read after the note has changed or the context was reset. The other accepts a read of a different, similarly named note. Both should be fixed before merging.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Do not reuse per-turn read credit after it becomes invalid. An invalidated session acknowledgement falls back to a per-turn consult that may describe an older note version or text removed from context.

  • src/omind/guard.py#L2745-L2745: require the per-turn read to match the current note version before accepting the fallback.
  • src/omind/hooks.py#L943-L943: clear per-turn Git-rules read credit on compact and clear, including when no new turn reset follows.

Review triage:

  • Exact note identity (verify.py): valid. Fixed in the follow-up commit: only a read of the note itself (its bare name, or a path whose filename is it) records the session acknowledgement. Test added.
  • Per-turn fallback / clearing per-turn credit on compact: not changed. The per-turn credit is the existing within-turn behavior and is wiped at every user message. Clearing the turn sentinel on a mid-turn compaction would also re-arm the ordinary consult gate, which this PR leaves unchanged on purpose. The new cross-turn credit is version-checked and is cleared on compact/clear.
  • CodeQL cyclic import: the omind.store import is function-local, the same pattern demanded_note_missing already uses, so there is no import-time cycle.
