Variable Substitution

I've been using the microsoft/variable-substitution Action to perform variable substitution on the module manifest, but that Action is archived and is out of date. It's been issuing deprecation warnings for some time about the old Node version it uses, so I need to update the workflow. The problem is, there are too many options. Here is a list of the possibilities I know of so far, ordered by my likely preference of switching:

1. devops-actions/variable-substitution Node 20. It's using decent security automation.
2. TomaszKandula/variable-substitution Updated to Node 20. Repo has good versioning practices.
3. im-open/variable-substitution Node 20. Seems active. I'm a little put off by the lack of releases. They seem to think that using a tag is sufficient.
4. keeroll/variable-substitution Only updated to Node 16, looks stale.

An alternative is to use a much simpler token substitution action, like these:
