Issues

#1518 backend/src/services/streaming.js: Tool truncation comment and unmatched brace inserted into source

Domain: Backend & Streaming | Complexity: Low | Tracking ID: ISSUE-204

Background

In backend/src/services/streaming.js at line 392, an AI/tool truncation string /* … truncated 5126 chars … */ was inadvertently committed along with an unmatched closing brace.

Problem

Node.js fails with SyntaxError: Unexpected token '}', causing the entire streaming payment subsystem to crash on import.

Proposed Solution / Remediation

Clean up the stray truncation comment and fix the brace nesting to restore valid JavaScript syntax.

Acceptance Criteria

  • node --check backend/src/services/streaming.js completes with exit code 0.
  • Streaming payment service initializes successfully.

#1519 backend/src/notifications/channels/email.js: CommonJS module.exports syntax used in ES module

Domain: Backend & Notifications | Complexity: Low | Tracking ID: ISSUE-205

Background

In backend/src/notifications/channels/email.js at lines 216-219, exports are written as module.exports = { ... }, whereas the package is configured with "type": "module".

Problem

Node.js ES modules do not define module or exports, throwing ReferenceError: module is not defined in ES module scope when the email channel is loaded.

Proposed Solution / Remediation

Replace module.exports = { ... } with standard ESM export default or named export declarations.

Acceptance Criteria

  • node --check backend/src/notifications/channels/email.js passes.
  • Email notification channel loads without ReferenceError.

#1520 backend/src/notifications/service.js: Duplicate function declaration header sendNotification

Domain: Backend & Notifications | Complexity: Low | Tracking ID: ISSUE-206

Background

In backend/src/notifications/service.js, the function signature for sendNotification is declared on line 74 and immediately repeated on line 75.

Problem

The repeated signature causes SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier 'sendNotification', crashing the notification dispatching service.

Proposed Solution / Remediation

Remove the duplicate function declaration line.

Acceptance Criteria

  • node --check backend/src/notifications/service.js passes.
  • Notification service initializes cleanly.

#1521 backend/src/notifications/templates.js: Malformed function closing before JSDoc comment in templates

Domain: Backend & Notifications | Complexity: Low | Tracking ID: ISSUE-207

Background

In backend/src/notifications/templates.js, a template function body is left unclosed prior to a JSDoc comment at line 115.

Problem

The parser encounters a docstring inside an unclosed block, leading to SyntaxError: Unexpected token and rendering template generation unavailable.

Proposed Solution / Remediation

Properly close the preceding template function before the JSDoc block.

Acceptance Criteria

  • node --check backend/src/notifications/templates.js passes.
  • Notification templates render valid text and HTML without syntax errors.

Summary

All four fixes are syntax-level repairs. Run node --check on each file after editing. In email.js, note the file currently mixes CommonJS and ESM and contains a partially merged duplicate sendEmail body; consolidate into one ESM implementation rather than only swapping the export line. In templates.js, delete the malformed first getRenderedTemplate rather than trying to close it, since a complete locale-aware version already exists below.

Changes

  • In backend/src/services/streaming.js around line 392, remove the stray AI/tool truncation comment /* … truncated 5126 chars … */ and fix the unmatched closing brace so the surrounding function/object nesting is balanced. Verify with node --check backend/src/services/streaming.js (exit 0) and a smoke import to confirm the streaming payment service initializes. (backend/src/services/streaming.js)
  • In backend/src/notifications/channels/email.js, the file mixes CommonJS (require, module.exports) with ESM (export async function sendEmail) and also contains a duplicated/merged sendEmail implementation with an unclosed try/catch and a stray t.sendMail block. Rewrite the module as pure ESM: remove 'use strict'/require usage (use dynamic import('nodemailer') as already done in createTransport), keep a single coherent sendEmail implementation using the lazily-created transport, keep sendVerificationEmail, and replace the trailing module.exports = { sendEmail, sendVerificationEmail } with export { sendVerificationEmail } (sendEmail is already exported) or export default { sendEmail, sendVerificationEmail }. Ensure all braces are balanced. Verify with node --check backend/src/notifications/channels/email.js and an import smoke test. (backend/src/notifications/channels/email.js)
  • In backend/src/notifications/service.js, remove the duplicated sendNotification function signature on line 75, keeping only the complete declaration that includes phoneRegion and locale parameters (line 74 is the truncated duplicate). Verify with node --check backend/src/notifications/service.js and a service initialization smoke test. (backend/src/notifications/service.js)
  • In backend/src/notifications/templates.js, the first getRenderedTemplate function (around line 115) is left unclosed before a JSDoc comment and is immediately followed by a second, complete getRenderedTemplate definition. Remove the malformed/duplicate first definition (including its stray body lines and the orphaned JSDoc fragment) so only the locale-aware getRenderedTemplate(type, channel, data = {}, locale = 'en') remains, and ensure braces are balanced. Verify with node --check backend/src/notifications/templates.js and a smoke test rendering text and HTML templates. (backend/src/notifications/templates.js)
