Summary

Implements V3 issue #261 (R179–R182, R184–R186) at the shared tool invocation boundary. Structured approvals bind call identity, exact arguments, workspace/session, ToolSpec provenance, and policy metadata. Effective authority is intersected with configuration, surface, interaction mode, and requested permissions; delegated mutations remain limited to assigned file tools.

The compatibility chat path binds the ToolSpec across approval. MCP advertised capabilities are enforced as its runtime surface bound. Oversized approval detail is emitted in correlated chunks, redacted before serialization, and rewrapped after terminal resize. Read-only Git argument checks parse quoted options and disable external diff/textconv execution. The review follow-up also redacts Bearer credentials in structured and legacy approval strings, preserves chunk bytes exactly, blocks approval until chunk completion, preserves explicit deny-all capability sets, and keeps optional two-argument callbacks on the legacy path.

Requirement coverage

  • R179/R186: capability grants cannot widen configured, surface, interaction-mode, parent, or requested authority.
  • R180: Strategic Plan acceptance remains separate from tool approval.
  • R181/R182: immutable approval requests bind the approved operation and policy; responses are correlated and must be literal true.
  • R184/R185: permissions and workspace scope are rechecked after approval; child mutations are confined to assigned file tools.
  • Approval details stay redacted and inspectable, including large payloads and terminal resizes.

Schema validation before approval is tracked in dependent issue #233 (R014–R018).

Validation

  • PASS — Python 3.12 full suite: 657 tests.
  • PASS — Python 3.12 and 3.13 focused approval/TUI suites: 63 tests each.
  • PASS — make check, make lint, make docs-check, and Go TUI tests.
  • PASS — agent, subagent, and TUI workflow acceptance.
  • PASS — local GPG and GitHub signature verification for final commit 8c916b4.
  • PASS — GitHub OpenKyrozen CI and publish workflow on the final head.

No new dependencies or provider calls. Child agents retain read-only network research but cannot perform unconfined shell, Git, browser, dynamic, or custom mutations.

Walkthrough

The change adds structured approval requests, intersects capability limits, and rechecks authorization before tool execution. It also restricts delegated mutations, validates read-only Git arguments, and updates approval events and TUI display to support redacted, scrollable arguments.

Changes

Typed tool authorization and approval

Layer / File(s) Summary
Approval requests and capability bounds
openkyrozen/security/approvals.py, openkyrozen/agent/runtime.py, openkyrozen/app/state.py, tests/test_approval_request.py, docs/architecture.md, docs/superpowers/plans/*, docs/index.md
ApprovalRequest stores a JSON-safe argument snapshot and fingerprint. The runtime intersects capability bounds and binds registered calls to approval checks. Documentation describes the security rules and implementation plan; tests cover request immutability and capability limits.
Approval rechecks and typed execution
openkyrozen/agent/executor.py, openkyrozen/security/permissions.py, openkyrozen/tools/manifest.py, tests/test_approval_request.py
The executor rechecks authority and tool registration, preserves typed arguments for receipts, and validates legacy conversion. Approval callbacks support structured requests and the legacy form; exceptions and results other than literal True deny approval.
Delegated scope and Git argument checks
openkyrozen/agent/delegation_runtime.py, openkyrozen/security/permission_gate.py, tests/test_delegation.py, tests/test_permission_gate.py, tests/test_approval_request.py
Delegated tool access checks capability and side-effect classifications, and limits child mutations to assigned file tools. Read-only Git tools reject specified output-writing and external-execution options.
Structured and scrollable approvals
openkyrozen/interfaces/tui/turns.py, tui/*, tests/test_tui_protocol.py, tui/main_test.go, scripts/tui_workflow_acceptance.py, docs/superpowers/plans/2026-10-11-v3-issue-261.md
Approval events carry redacted structured arguments in chunks. The Go approval modal displays arguments in a scrollable viewport. Approval responses are accepted only when the value is exactly True; tests cover long arguments and response handling.

Read-labelled Git tools can still run external programs or write files through quoted options or configured diff filters. Approval prompts can also show bearer tokens in the event stream. Fix these security-boundary gaps before merging.

Inline comments:
Review comments at @openkyrozen/interfaces/tui/turns.py:
- Line 59: Redact the approval event’s operation value before emitting it;
update the operation assignment in the turns flow to pass request.arguments
through the existing approval-value redaction helper, while preserving the
current size check and None behavior.

Review comments at @openkyrozen/security/permission_gate.py:
- Around line 133-134: Update the command construction in git_diff and git_log
to include Git’s --no-textconv and --no-ext-diff options, preventing configured
filters or external diff drivers from running during read-labelled calls.
- Line 133: Update the argument validation in git_read_arguments_allowed to
inspect tokens parsed with shlex.split() rather than raw text, so quoted Git
options such as --output and --ext-diff are rejected before they reach Git.
Preserve the existing set of rejected options and handle parsing consistently
with git_log.

Review comments at @tui/layout.go:
- Line 21: Update the approval viewport resize handling around
m.approvalView.SetWidth so narrowing the terminal also makes the full arguments
visible: enable soft wrapping with unwrapped content, or rewrap the stored
arguments to the new width before updating the content.
