Description
This is a private spending tracker for the Investec Programmable Card. After each approved purchase, the card code sends the merchant, amount and currency to a small Cloudflare Worker that you own. The Worker files the purchase under eating out, holiday or clothing and shows where you stand on a phone-friendly web page.
The problem. Most budget apps reset every month. Real spending doesn’t work that way: a holiday or a new winter wardrobe is paid for from money saved over many months, and the lumpy purchases need to be measured against what you’ve built up.
The solution. Budgets run over longer periods than a month.
Eating out: unspent money rolls into the next month.
Holiday and clothing pots: these build up by a monthly amount that never resets at year end, so a R4,000 purchase is judged against everything saved so far.
Changing a monthly amount: this never rewrites what earlier months earned.
Standout features
Tracking only. The card code never declines a transaction.
Foreign spend. A hotel in euros is held at R0 until you confirm the rand amount, so it isn’t silently counted as R840.
Fixing mistakes. Merchant rules and a one-tap Move fix purchases filed in the wrong category.
Sign-in. You sign in with a Google account, and an allow-list decides who gets in.
Security. The Worker verifies the sign-in token itself. The card endpoint needs both a Cloudflare service token and a shared secret. The page loads nothing from third parties.
Privacy. Only the merchant code, name, amount and currency leave Investec, and the data stays in your own Cloudflare account.
Benefit. You get a clear view of long-term, lumpy spending, with no third party holding your transaction data and no risk to your card.
