Request: register a new release (registered v2.8.0 cannot be installed alongside current CUDA.jl / GPUCompiler) #1152
Could you register a new release from main? The current registered version can't be installed in an environment that also contains a recent CUDA.jl, while main works fine.
What happens. In a project that has CUDA.jl 6.x (which brings in GPUCompiler ≥ 2.8.1), Pkg.add("AMDGPU") fails with an unsatisfiable requirement:
The registered AMDGPU v2.8.0 requires AMDGPU_LLVM_Backend_jll 22.1.x and GPUCompiler ≤ 2.8.0. GPUCompiler 2.8.1 and later require AMDGPU_LLVM_Backend_jll 23.1.1. So an environment containing both CUDA.jl and AMDGPU.jl has no solution with the registered version. Letting the resolver downgrade instead pulls GPUCompiler back to 2.6.0, which breaks the CUDA side.
What works. main at commit 12e869b resolves cleanly together with CUDA.jl 6.4.1, GPUCompiler 2.10.0, AMDGPU_LLVM_Backend_jll 23.1.1+3 and KernelAbstractions 0.9.43 on Julia 1.13.0. We currently depend on that commit through a [sources] git pin, which we'd like to replace with a registered version.
