FMP documents filters that 27 sync/async method pairs could not accept. This PR exposes all 74 audited parameter slots, including the 18 assumptions on each custom DCF method, and corrects exchange-variant requests: search_exchange_variants("MSFT") now sends symbol=MSFT instead of the query key that returned Apple variants in the live audit.

New parameters are typed, keyword-only, and default to None. Unset additions are removed before endpoint validation so existing positional calls and metadata defaults survive, including CIK search's limit=50. Explicit False and 0 reach FMP. Existing return types are preserved.

Refs #396. Approved plan · Provider audit.

Scope

  • Market, company, economics, fundamental, institutional, intelligence, alternative-asset, and SEC controls; the complete method/parameter mapping is in docs/api/optional-parameters.md.
  • Matching endpoint aliases, existing LangChain/MCP schemas, and semantic hints. The catalog inventory is unchanged. A frozen provider-derived fixture checks signatures, old requests, positional defaults, types, and emitted queries; a catalog-wide guard rejects silently dropped optional fields.
  • Every dependency group refreshed against current stable releases on 2026-09-13, including runtime/extras/dev/docs/build tools, uv, hooks, and SHA-pinned actions. Major updates include OpenAI 3.13.0 and MCP 2.2.0. MCP's 1.x fallback remains compatible with the 2.2 type stubs. Python 3.10–3.14 support and the uncommitted-lock policy remain intact. Action updates overlap the owner-approved scope of Build(deps): Bump the codeql-action group with 2 updates #393 and Build(deps): Bump actions/deploy-pages from 5.0.0 to 5.0.1 #394.
  • Restored the missing ci_check nox aggregator used by make ci and make check-all, retaining the existing gates and coverage thresholds.
  • CHANGELOG.md describes the controls, compatible defaults, wire correction, dependency versions, CI fix, and remaining provider limitations.

Dependency changes and SDK changes are separate commits: 0db48cd and 0dcdb1c.

.venv/bin/python -m build --no-isolation Final committed sdist and wheel built; fresh isolated wheel install verified all 54 updated method signatures
Read-only live FMP qualification 28 raw/sync comparisons plus 3 async checks matched row counts and identity fields, accounting for existing datetime and validation-alias normalization

The matrix retains the repository's existing optional-extra skips and opt-in live/E2E exclusions. Live qualification was run separately with the existing FMP credential; credentials and authenticated URLs are not included in the changes.

Remaining qualification

#396 remains open for provider calendar completeness and filter behavior. The bounded GDP request was empty in both raw FMP and the SDK; that is not proof the filter works. NYSE 2027/2028 holiday/early-close completeness, SEC profile identifier behavior, and overlapping calendar pages remain documented provider concerns. This PR adds no pagination loops, date padding, or provider-record rewrites.

OpenAI 3 uses HTTPX2 internally; applications supplying custom OpenAI transports should account for that upstream migration. FMP's own transport remains HTTPX 0.28.1. This PR targets dev for review and does not publish a release.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added optional filtering, date ranges, pagination, limits, and market-session controls across company, market, economics, alternative markets, institutional, intelligence, and SEC data requests.

    • Added optional filters to LangChain and MCP-integrated tools.
    • Improved compatibility with MCP SDK 1.x.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Corrected exchange-variant searches to send ticker queries using the expected parameter.
  • Documentation

    • Added comprehensive optional-parameter guidance, examples, API references, and provider limitations.

The live contract sends FMP's symbol key. Apple is a company name, not a ticker, so the integration case now uses MSFT.

Complete the required docstring sections for the affected public methods.

The repository convention requires comprehensive public-API docstrings with parameter descriptions, return types, and usage examples. Add the missing parameter and Returns sections and synchronous or asynchronous examples for the six alternative methods, the employee-count methods, the symbol-change methods, the historical-market-cap methods, and the four economics methods.

For the intraday-price methods and earnings methods, the existing extended and include_report_times descriptions already document those parameters. Add the missing Returns sections and usage examples without moving those descriptions.

Add type hints to the new test functions and helpers.

CONTRIBUTING.md requires type hints for new code. The **/*.py instruction also requires type hints for function signatures. The tests.* mypy override only relaxes automated enforcement during migration. It does not create a policy exception.

Add -> None to each cited test. Annotate case as dict[str, Any], mode as str, and asynchronous as bool. Use the fixture types for client_config and fmp_client. Annotate the helpers as follows:

  • _sample(param: dict[str, Any]) -> Any
  • _transport(case: dict[str, Any], captured: list[dict[str, Any]]) -> httpx.MockTransport
  • respond(request: httpx.Request) -> httpx.Response

Apply these annotations to the cited functions in tests/unit/test_provider_optional_parameters.py and tests/unit/test_mcp_optional_parameters.py.

Complete the changed public API docstrings.

The repository contract requires fmp_data/**/*.py public APIs to document parameters, return types, and usage examples.

  • Add Args, Returns, and synchronous or asynchronous Example sections to get_beneficial_ownership in both institutional clients.
  • Add the missing Returns and Example sections to search_exchange_variants.
  • Add an example to search_by_cik.
  • Complete Args, Returns, and Example sections for screen_companies.
  • Add a timestamp example to get_market_hours.
  • Add Returns and Example sections to get_all_exchange_market_hours, get_holidays_by_exchange, get_all_shares_float, and get_available_exchanges. Include all parameters in Args.
  • Keep the existing Returns sections in both get_sic_codes methods and add filtered synchronous or asynchronous examples.

The Returns sections already present in get_market_hours and get_sic_codes do not need duplication.

Complete the required Google-style sections in the affected public API docstrings.

The repository requires every fmp_data/**/*.py public API function to document parameters, return types, and a usage example. No exception or centralized-documentation allowance applies.

  • Fundamental custom DCF methods: document the missing symbol parameter, return types, and sync/async examples. The optional assumptions are already described.
  • get_earnings_calendar: add an example. Its parameters and return value are already documented.
  • Dividends and stock splits methods: document start_date, end_date, page, return types, and examples.
  • ESG benchmark methods: document the return type and example. The year parameter is already described.
  • Senate trading and House disclosure methods: document symbol, return types, and examples. The optional pagination parameters are already described.
  • Apply the same corrections to the synchronous and asynchronous counterparts.

Quoting review #397 (review)

Fixed (type-hint nitpick and the matching inline comment) — new optional-parameter tests now have signature annotations. — e7dbe93 tests/unit/test_provider_optional_parameters.py:30

Won't fix (docstring nitpicks on alternative/institutional/market clients, and the matching inline comment on get_custom_discounted_cash_flow) — existing public client methods use one-line summaries, not Google-style Args/Returns/Example blocks. Example: fmp_data/fundamental/client.py:30. The new filters are already documented on the methods and in docs/api/optional-parameters.md.
