Issue

Closes #1154

Summary

For BATCH assessments, the per-row prompt template used to live on the API request (BatchInput.query), split from the input_schema it interpolates (buried in config_blob.assessment.params). A typo'd {column} was caught only at run time (the literal placeholder leaked into the prompt), every caller resent the template each request, and pre-filters had to reach cross-block to validate against the assessment's schema.

This PR reshapes the ASSESSMENT config and BATCH request:

  1. Prompt template moves into the config as submission — mandatory on assessment.params, optional on each pre-filter's params. Holds the {column} template previously carried by the request query.
  2. input_schema hoisted to the config_blob top level (flat sibling of pre_filters/assessment). One data contract, read by both the pre-filter and assessment consumers. json_output_schema stays in assessment.params (assessment-specific).
  3. Validation at config-save: a blob-level validator checks every {placeholder} in every submission resolves against the top-level input_schema keys; an unknown column rejects the save. Runtime only validates the structured data rows.
  4. query removed from BatchInput (and cosmetically from ResponseInput). The BATCH pipeline sources the prompt from config submission, interpolating each row server-side; it is kept out of provider params.
  5. duplicate_detection removed from the API-client pipeline (config model, stage, results). The legacy RUN pipeline keeps its own and is untouched. Also fixes validate_blob_completion_models, which crashed on the removed field.

RESPONSE is out of scope (no proper wiring today; its query removal is cosmetic).

Checklist

Before submitting a pull request, please ensure that you mark these task.

  • Ran fastapi run --reload app/main.py or docker compose up in the repository root and test.
  • If you've fixed a bug or added code that is tested and has test cases.

Notes

  • Backend-only. Frontend (kaapi-frontend) config CRUD + submit form need a follow-up for the new submission, the top-level input_schema, and the removed request query.
  • Breaking: clients sending query now 422; ASSESSMENT configs now require top-level input_schema + assessment submission.
  • No Alembic migration (config_blob is JSONB). Existing configs are not re-validated on read; they require the new shape only on their next save.
  • Full assessment suite green: 511 passed. Placeholder validator mutation-tested (neutering the raise fails the unknown-placeholder tests).

…`query`

Move the per-row prompt template off the API request and into the
ASSESSMENT config_blob as `submission` (mandatory on assessment, optional
per pre-filter). Placeholders are validated against `input_schema` at config
save, so an unknown `{column}` rejects the save instead of silently leaking
a literal placeholder into the prompt at runtime.

- Add `submission` to AssessmentTextParams (mandatory) and PreFilterParams
(optional); blob-level validator checks every `{placeholder}` resolves
  against assessment.params.input_schema.
- Remove `query` from BatchInput and ResponseInput (breaking for API clients;
  extra=forbid now rejects a stray `query`).
- Source the BATCH pipeline prompt from config `submission`; keep it out of
  provider params.
- Remove the duplicate_detection pre-filter from the API-client pipeline
entirely (config model, stage, results); legacy RUN pipeline untouched.
- Fix validate_blob_completion_models crashing on the removed field.

No migration: config_blob is JSONB. Existing ASSESSMENT configs are not
re-validated on read; they require `submission` only on their next save.
Frontend (kaapi-frontend) config CRUD + submit form need a follow-up.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Assessment BATCH configuration now owns submission templates and the top-level input schema. Batch requests no longer include query. The API-client pipeline supports topic relevance without duplicate detection, and results expose only topic-relevance verdicts.

The batch pipeline resolves prompts and input columns from the configuration blob. It executes topic relevance only and removes submission from provider parameters.

Batch requests now send row data through input.data. Response-input requests use attachments without query.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to bad15

The PR can accept malformed submission templates such as undeclared placeholders containing punctuation, allowing invalid prompts to reach batch processing instead of being rejected when the configuration is saved. Fixing placeholder validation is required before merge.

input_schema describes the shared BATCH `data` rows consumed by both the
pre-filter and assessment stages, so it belongs once at the blob root rather
than buried in assessment.params (where it was already popped before the
provider call — proof it was never a provider param).

- Move input_schema from AssessmentTextParams to AssessmentConfigBlob as a
top-level mandatory field (sibling of pre_filters/assessment).
- Placeholder validator reads self.input_schema (no more cross-block reach
into assessment.params for validating pre-filter submissions).
- submission.py / batch.py read blob.input_schema, converting to a plain dict
at the consumption sites; json_output_schema stays assessment-specific.

No migration: config_blob is JSONB. Existing configs carrying input_schema
under assessment.params require the top-level field on their next save.

nitpick: see if these constants can be moved into a separate constants.py, or better a shared constant.py for both llm_call, assessments and evaluations if it makes sense.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Validate placeholders that contain non-word characters.

PLACEHOLDER_RE only matches \w+. A submission such as Assess {unknown-column} bypasses the unknown-column check and is accepted when input_schema contains only a. This violates the required validation of all {placeholder} references and can pass an unbound template to batch construction.

Match the full placeholder grammar used at runtime. Add regression coverage for an undeclared placeholder with punctuation.
