Danger Sense is a client-side Fabric mod that highlights nearby dangers with an animated, world-border style red overlay. Trapped chests, powder snow, tripwire and other nasty surprises become visible at a glance, even from far away, without changing how the game plays.
- Animated forcefield overlay – dangers glow with the scrolling world-border grid, tinted red, visible day or night.
- Accurate shapes – overlays match each block's real outline: a thin strip for armed tripwire, a chest-shaped box for trapped chests, a full cube for powder snow.
- Smooth distance fade – highlights fade in as you approach and fade out as you walk away instead of popping in and out.
- Instant updates – break or replace a highlighted block and the overlay disappears the same frame.
- Merged outlines – touching blocks of the same danger type merge into one outlined shape, so a powder snow field or a tripwire line reads as a single blob.
- Not a cheat – only dangers that are legitimately visible are highlighted; the mod just makes them obvious. Nothing hidden inside or behind other blocks is revealed.

Danger Sense is client-side only. It works in singleplayer and on any server or realm, since it only reads information the game already sends to your client.
Press V to toggle the overlay in-game (rebindable in Options > Controls > Danger Sense).
Open Mod Menu > Danger Sense to change settings:
| Setting | Range | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Danger Sense | On/Off | On | Master toggle, same as the keybind |
| Scan Radius | 4–32 blocks | 16 | How far around you dangers are detected |
| Overlay Opacity | 10–100% | 75% | How strong the red overlay is |
| Animation Speed | 0–300% | 100% | Scroll speed of the pattern; 0% freezes it |
| Per-danger toggles | On/Off | see table above | Enable or disable each danger type |
Settings are saved to config/dangersense.json, which you can also edit by hand.
- Checking a chest from a distance before opening it is the whole point: if it glows red, it's trapped.
- In snowy mountains, keep an eye on the ground ahead – powder snow pits show up through the snow layer's surface long before you would notice them.
- Enable Magma Blocks when caving or crossing basalt deltas in the Nether; it's off by default because the Nether would otherwise light up everywhere.
- If the overlay feels too loud, drop opacity to around 40% and animation speed to 50% for a subtle shimmer.
- Playing on a weaker PC? A scan radius of 8–12 keeps the effect close and cheap.
- The scan is spherical: dangers appear at the edge of the radius already faded out and solidify as you approach, so distance is easy to judge by brightness.
