[idea] command to start Jupyter (server+browser) from Neovim #59

Open

Description

This way there is no need to

  1. Open a terminal with jupyter lab --work-dir=/path/to/containing/folder
  2. Run Neopyter connect address:port

    I was able to find a nice trick to make the connection process a lot easier though:

    Config

    ~/.bashrc

    source ~/.bash_aliases

    ~/.bash_aliases

    alias jl='$HOME/Repositories/ip/.venv/bin/jupyter-lab'

    Execution

    :let @+ = expand('%:p')
    jl 'pasted/full/file/path/that/was/copied/to/clipboard'
    :Neopyter sync current

    Good idea!
    I think we could add a new usercmd e.g. :Neopyter start ... which could start jupyter lab instance via jupyter lab ....

    In order to optimize workflow, add option to start jupyter lab process:

    require("neopyter").setup({
        jupyter = {
            auto_start = {
                enable = boolean, --- default false
                exectuable_path = string|fun():string,
                args = {...} -- the args your want pass to jupyter lab instance
            }
       }
    })

    But, how to find a ideal executable path of jupyter-lab in default case, include uv、system path、venv……?

    Could you give me more feedback about this proposal?

    @AbaoFromCUG you're right, it would need to be set by the user beforehand. It is also possible to register a kernel for Jupyter (which is then visible from jupyter kernelspec list: other plugins like jupynvim use this), but I don't know if that can work with Jupyter Lab, which is what this plugin supports (it won't work on Jupyter Notebook for example right?). This might be best done as a user script rather than as a feature: the plugin is already very good!
