Adds tools/qa-resource/qa_resource.py, a stdlib-only runner that takes package, render or simulator jobs one at a time under the existing ~/.codex/local-ios-qa.lock. It checks memory, disk and other heavy processes at admission, waits for foreign builds to exit with kqueue without signaling them, and ignores the agent-device testCommand service for package and render jobs. On cancel or timeout it stops only its own child process group, and shuts down only a simulator it booted. Parents block on `wait`, which takes the job's liveness flock, or read job.json. Recognize the macOS Blender executable
When Blender runs from the standard macOS app bundle, ps ... comm= reports /Applications/Blender.app/Contents/MacOS/Blender, whose basename is capitalized. Because membership in HEAVY_NAMES is case-sensitive and contains only blender, admission ignores that active render and may start another heavy job concurrently, defeating the tool's main protection on the shared Mac. Add the app-bundle executable name or normalize basenames before comparison.

Fixed in 484a4c1. Heavy-process names are now compared in lower case, so /Applications/Blender.app/Contents/MacOS/Blender blocks admission. Test: test_blender_app_bundle_executable_blocks_package_job.

Add the QA resource suite to automated checks
This new test suite is not referenced by the Makefile or any GitHub workflow, so neither make check nor CI executes its queue, cancellation, timeout, and process-cleanup coverage. Future changes under tools/qa-resource/ can therefore merge without running these safety-critical tests; add a macOS workflow or a corresponding make check target.

Agreed that the suite isn't wired into make check or CI yet. Deferred, not fixed here: wiring it means changing the shared Makefile and .github/workflows, which is outside this PR's scope of tools/qa-resource/ only. Root can decide on a target or a macOS workflow. Until then, run it locally with python3 -m unittest discover -s tools/qa-resource -p 'test_*.py', which takes about 55 s with temp state and no simulators or builds.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 0ecaf30 after root's decision. .github/workflows/qa-resource.yml runs python -m unittest discover -s tools/qa-resource -p 'test_*.py' -v on macos-26 with Python 3.14, for pull requests that touch tools/qa-resource/** or the workflow, and for pushes to main. It has read-only contents permission, no secrets and no persisted checkout credentials, and stops after 10 minutes. The shared Makefile is unchanged. The first hosted run is 36925661603 on this head.

Update the ticket counter atomically
If a submitter is killed, the volume fills, or an I/O error occurs after write_text truncates counter but before the new sequence is fully written, the counter remains empty or partial. Every subsequent submission then fails at int(counter.read_text()), leaving the queue unusable until someone repairs its internal state manually. Write the new counter through a temporary file and atomically replace the old one, as write_job already does.

Fixed in 484a4c1. The counter is written to counter.tmp and moved into place with os.replace, as job.json already was. Test: test_counter_survives_failed_write_and_next_ticket_continues. An ENOSPC on the temporary file leaves counter intact, and the next ticket continues the sequence.
Cancelling a `swift test` job killed the job's process group but left swiftpm-testing-helper running. SwiftPM starts that helper in its own process group, and once swift-test died launchd adopted it, while the runner had already released the shared lock. Timeout and a normal exit had the same gap. Each job's child now carries a per-job owner token in its environment. At cleanup the runner finds escaped processes by that token, read through KERN_PROCARGS2, or by live parent ancestry. It pins each one to its PID, kernel start time in microseconds and uid, and rechecks that identity before signaling it by PID, never by another group. Success needs two consecutive complete empty scans. Anything it cannot confirm gone makes the job cleanup_failed and keeps the lock held. Admission waits on any live token-bearing process, and nested jobs are refused. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

…cally Admission compared executable names case-sensitively, so Blender run from /Applications/Blender.app (executable "Blender") did not block a second heavy job. Names are now compared in lower case. The ticket counter was rewritten in place. A kill or a full disk between truncation and write left it empty, and every later submission failed parsing it. It is now written to counter.tmp and moved over with os.replace, as job.json already is. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

`cancel` checked the runner's start time and then sent SIGTERM to its PID, so a PID reused in between could receive the signal. Each runner now holds the read end of cancel.fifo in its job directory, and a listener thread turns a byte there into SIGTERM for the runner's own main thread. `cancel` writes that byte. With no runner reading, the open fails with ENXIO and nothing is sent. Jobs started by an older runner have no FIFO and are refused. An interrupted `submit` used to exit 130 without a receipt while its detached runner kept going. The runner now starts with SIGTERM, SIGINT and SIGHUP blocked and unblocks them once its handlers are installed. `submit` keeps SIGCHLD at its default so the runner stays its unreaped child, cancels it on any of those signals, writes the receipt unbuffered with cancelRequested, and returns 130. Cleanup tolerates a cancel that lands as it begins, and stops the listener before handlers are restored. The listener's fd is never closed while its thread could still be blocked reading it. The queue's 74 tests ran only when someone remembered to run them by hand. A new workflow runs them on macos-26 with Python 3.14 for pull requests that touch tools/qa-resource/ or the workflow, and for pushes to main. The tests need macOS because the queue reads Darwin process data, but they need no Xcode, simulator or build setup. The workflow can only read the repository, uses no secrets and does not persist checkout credentials. A newer commit cancels a pull request's older run, while each push to main gets its own concurrency group so a pending push is not replaced before it is tested. The job stops after 10 minutes. The --max-wait test now holds its payload on a release file instead of a 0.5 s sleep, so a slow runner cannot finish the job before the short wait times out. `submit` printed its receipt before the detached runner opened cancel.fifo for reading. A `cancel` in that window got ENXIO, reported that nothing was listening, and the job then ran anyway. The command that creates the job now opens the FIFO's read end at once and hands it to the runner with the liveness lock and ticket. A cancel sent during startup is queued in the pipe, and the runner's listener delivers it once its handlers are installed. Once neither process holds the read end, `cancel` still cannot open it and sends nothing. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
If creating the job's log files, making cancel.fifo, or opening its read end failed after the job directory existed, `run` or `submit` exited with a traceback and left the job `queued`. With no runner, `wait` reported it stale, and its id could not be reused without manual cleanup. These failures now write status `error` with the OS error and a finish time, release the liveness lock, and return 125, so `wait` reports the failure. Finish the receipt after an interrupted write
When submit is interrupted while stdout is blocked or during a partial os.write, printing is already true, so this branch skips writing the cancellation receipt and returns 130 with empty or invalid JSON. This is reproducible with the full-pipe scenario covered by test_blocked_submit_receipt_does_not_hold_finished_jobs_liveness, and it breaks the documented guarantee that an interrupted submission reports the handed-off job; preserve the unwritten bytes or emit the complete receipt after cancelling the runner.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed the documented contract in 1e1f4d1 rather than retrying the write. An interrupted write means stdout itself was blocked, usually a pipe nobody drains. Writing the receipt again would block on the same pipe and leave the submitter unstoppable, which is what test_blocked_submit_receipt_does_not_hold_finished_jobs_liveness guards (it SIGTERMs a submitter on a full pipe and requires exit within 3 s). The receipt is far below PIPE_BUF, so a pipe write is atomic and the interrupted case leaves no receipt, not truncated JSON. The README now says this, the branch explains it, and the test asserts exit 130. A mutation that always rewrites the receipt makes that test hang and fail. The caller supplied the job ID, so wait ID and job.json still report the cancelled job.
The README promised a cancelRequested receipt for any interrupted submit. When the interruption lands mid-write, stdout is what was blocking, and a second write would block again and leave the submitter unstoppable. Say so in the README and at the branch, and assert the blocked submitter exits 130. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Require the service to be the sole selected test
An xcodebuild invocation can legally repeat -only-testing to select multiple tests, but this membership check exempts the entire process whenever one selector names SERVICE_TEST. Thus a command selecting both testCommand and another suite is ignored for package/render jobs even while the additional suite performs heavy work, allowing overlapping jobs on the shared Mac. Require the parsed selector set to contain only the service before classifying the process as ignored. Apple documents repeated -only-testing options.

Fixed in ddd61e2. The service exemption now requires the set of -only-testing selectors to be exactly {testCommand}, so a process that also selects another suite blocks admission. Two cases cover a mixed selection in each option form, and the old membership check fails them. The README states the rule.
xcodebuild accepts repeated -only-testing. The membership check ignored a process that selected testCommand plus another suite, so package and render jobs could overlap that suite's heavy work. Require test-without-building to be the sole action
When an xcodebuild command includes build or another build action alongside test-without-building and selects only SERVICE_TEST, this predicate still classifies the whole process as ignored, so package or render jobs may start while that invocation is compiling. The xcodebuild(1) manual documents [action ...], permits one or more actions, and says -only-testing constrains only test actions; require test-without-building to be the sole action before granting the exemption.

Fixed in 9ef2757. The exemption now also requires that no other xcodebuild action (build, build-for-testing, test, analyze, archive, install, installsrc, clean, docbuild) appears, so a compiling invocation blocks admission. A value spelled like an action only errs toward blocking. Two cases cover a build action before and after test-without-building.

Handle interruption before acquiring the submit ticket
If submit receives SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP while acquire_ticket is waiting for .guard, the submission handlers have not yet been installed. SIGINT unwinds through the finalizer and SIGTERM/SIGHUP terminate the process, but no runner exists to finish the record, so job.json remains queued after its liveness lock is released; wait then reports a stale job and the supplied ID cannot be reused without manual deletion. Install the interruption handlers before this blocking call or terminalize the unstarted job when it is interrupted.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 9ef2757. submit now installs a one-shot handler for SIGINT, SIGTERM and SIGHUP before acquire_ticket. An interruption before the runner exists records the job as cancelled (exit 130, the signal, and a specific error) while its liveness lock is still held, then restores the caller's handlers. The handler is swapped directly to the existing deferral handler, so there is no window with the default action. A new test sends each real signal from inside the ticket wait and checks the record, the restored handlers and the released lock.

Clean up the job directory when the initial record write fails
If the first metadata write fails, for example because the state volume reaches ENOSPC or a quota, it occurs before the setup-error handler and propagates as an uncaught OSError. The newly created job directory and possibly job.json.tmp remain behind without a usable result, so every retry with the same job ID is rejected as a duplicate. Include this write in setup failure handling and remove the newly created directory when no terminal record can be persisted.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Fixed in 9ef2757. A failed first write now closes the lock, removes job.json.tmp, job.json, live.lock and the directory this call created, and raises JobSetupError (exit 125) naming the write error and anything it could not remove. It removes those paths by name rather than with rmtree, which also keeps the tool on the system Python 3.9. A new test simulates ENOSPC after a partial temp write, then reuses the same id.

Treat non-UDID service destinations as possible matches
When the agent-device xcodebuild selects its simulator by name and OS, or leaves destination resolution implicit, this test cannot match it because it recognizes only id=<UDID>. If the target is still Shutdown while that process is resolving or starting its destination, the later device-state check also passes and this queue may boot the same simulator concurrently; Apple documents name-based simulator destinations in Technical Note TN2339. Treat a service as running on another device only when its explicit destination IDs prove that, or resolve its destination before ignoring it.
AGENTS.md reference: AGENTS.md:L56-L56
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 9ef2757. In simulator mode the service is ignored only when it has destinations and every one names a different device by id=. A name, an OS, an implicit destination, or any mix including one, blocks the simulator job. Package and render jobs still ignore the idle service. A new test covers implicit, name-based and mixed destinations, plus the all-other-ids case that stays ignored.
- Exempt the agent-device service only when test-without-building is its only action; -only-testing does not constrain build actions. - In simulator mode, ignore the service only when explicit destination ids place it on other devices. A name, OS or implicit destination may resolve to the job's device while it is still Shutdown. - Record a submit interrupted while waiting for its queue ticket as cancelled, instead of leaving it queued with no runner and stale. - Remove the new job directory when its first record write fails, so the id stays reusable. Revalidate ancestry before pinning escaped PIDs
When an escaped descendant exits and its PID is reused after process_snapshot() but before kernel_identity(), ancestry still comes from the stale snapshot while the identity and executable come from the new, unrelated process. The later checks compare only that new identity with itself and never revalidate its parent chain, so cleanup can record proof="ancestry" and signal another agent's same-user process. Revalidate the current parent chain after pinning the PID, with identities for the relevant links, before treating ancestry as ownership.
AGENTS.md reference: AGENTS.md:L56-L56
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 955ac91. The snapshot now only nominates. kernel_identity also returns the parent PID (kp_eproc.e_ppid at offset 560, checked against the SDK header), and kernel_ancestry walks the kernel's current chain from the pinned execution up to the payload. A link fails the proof when its parent is gone, is pid 1, or started after its child, so a reused PID or reused intermediate link is not owned. The existing before/after start-time check ties the proof to the recorded identity. Deterministic PID-reuse schedules (reused leaf, reused link, reused PID, and reuse between the pin and the final read in 1ceb110) cover it, plus a live check that the parsed parent equals os.getppid(). Removing the kernel walk, the start-time comparison, or using the wrong offset each fails those tests. The README lists one window that remains: the check-to-signal gap after proof, which macOS cannot close without an identity-bound signal.

Install run signal handlers before creating the job
For the foreground run command, SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP can arrive after create_job() has persisted queued state but before run_job() installs its handlers. Default signal handling then exits without terminalizing the record; once the liveness descriptor closes, status reports a stale job and the supplied ID remains unusable. Protect the setup-to-run_job handoff or record an unstarted cancellation as the submit path now does.

Fixed in 955ac91. main blocks SIGTERM, SIGINT and SIGHUP from job creation until run_job or submit installs handlers. Both unblock inside their own try, so a held signal becomes a recorded cancellation. A test sends each signal at the handoff for both run and submit and checks the cancelled record, the released lock, and the restored mask and handlers. In 1ceb110 run_job also opens its runner log inside the protected region.

Roll back the directory when live-lock creation fails
Although the first job.json write now has rollback, live.lock is opened before that protected block. If the volume or quota is exhausted after directory.mkdir() succeeds, this open raises an uncaught OSError and leaves the empty job directory behind, so every retry with the same ID is rejected as a duplicate. Include live-lock creation and locking in the initial setup rollback and translate the failure to the documented setup error.

Fixed in 955ac91 and 1ceb110. live.lock creation and locking are inside the setup rollback. The record, including its token, is built before the directory exists. If a later setup failure cannot be recorded either, the job's files and directory are removed by name. Tests cover a full disk at live.lock, at the first write, and at the error record, plus a token failure, and each retries the same id.

Reset SIGCHLD before launching foreground payloads
When run is invoked by a supervisor or wrapper that has set SIGCHLD to SIG_IGN, run_job() inherits that disposition, unlike the protected submit path. Darwin then automatically reaps the payload; wait_child_exit() treats the resulting ESRCH as completion, and Python's Popen.wait() maps the subsequent ECHILD to status 0, so a failing payload is recorded as succeeded. Set SIGCHLD to its default disposition while the payload is owned and restore it after cleanup.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Fixed in 955ac91. run_job sets SIGCHLD to SIG_DFL before spawning and restores the caller's disposition only after cleanup has finished with the payload. It is kept apart from the runner-signal set, which cleanup sets to SIG_IGN. A test runs a real failing payload under a caller with SIGCHLD ignored, expects exit 3 and status failed, and (in 1ceb110) checks the caller's SIG_IGN is back afterwards. Without the reset it records success.
…e gaps - Ancestry proof now comes from the kernel's current parent chain of the pinned process. A ps snapshot only nominates descendants, so a PID reused in between can no longer be recorded as owned and signalled. kinfo_proc supplies each link's parent and start time together, and a parent that started after its child fails the proof. - run_job resets an inherited SIGCHLD disposition while it owns the payload. Under SIG_IGN, Darwin reaped the payload, Popen mapped ECHILD to 0 and a failure was recorded as success; the PID and group were also unpinned. - main blocks SIGTERM, SIGINT and SIGHUP from job creation until run_job or submit installs handlers, so an interruption there is recorded as cancelled. - live.lock creation joins the setup rollback, keeping the id reusable. - Build the job record, including its token, before the directory exists. - When a setup failure cannot be recorded either, remove the new job's files and directory instead of leaving a queued record with no runner. - Open the runner log inside run_job's protected region, so a descriptor failure is recorded and releases the lock, FIFO and ticket. - Install submit's post-spawn handlers inside the region that cancels the runner, so a signal between the installs cannot abandon it. - Test PID reuse between the pin and the final identity read, and that a caller's ignored SIGCHLD is restored after a completed run. Remove submissions whose terminal record cannot be written
When acquire_ticket fails because the state volume fills while writing counter.tmp, this error-record write is likely to fail for the same reason. The exception then escapes through finally, which closes the liveness lock but leaves the previous queued record and directory behind; status reports a stale job and the caller cannot reuse the ID. Handle a failed terminal write like fail_unstarted_job by removing the unstarted job directory.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Valid. A full disk during acquire_ticket can make submit's error-record write fail too, leaving the queued record. The fix would route that branch through the same rollback fail_unstarted_job now uses. This PR has had four fix rounds today, so it's held for the maintainer's decision on a fifth rather than fixed in fca2172, which only carries the report-only escapee change.

Convert directory creation failures into setup errors
If the state directory is unwritable, its volume is full, or an intermediate path is not a directory, either mkdir raises an uncaught OSError before the protected setup block. The CLI therefore prints a traceback and exits with Python's generic status instead of the documented setup status 125. Include both directory-creation calls in the JobSetupError handling; no rollback is needed when the job directory was never created.

Valid. Both mkdir calls in create_job can raise OSError before the setup-error handling, which prints a traceback instead of returning 125. No job state is left behind in that case. Held with the finding above for the maintainer's decision on a fifth round.
A PID recheck followed by kill cannot rule out the PID being reused in between, and macOS has no identity-bound signal. Cleanup now signals only the pinned child group, whose unreaped leader keeps its id from being reused. A live escapee is recorded as retained, the job ends cleanup_failed with it listed, the shared lock is held through the cleanup hold, and later admissions wait while that exact execution is alive, including escapees proven only by ancestry, which carry no token. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
- At the cleanup deadline, record every proven identity still alive, not only those that left the payload group, so a later admission can wait for a member that dropped its token while process scans were failing. - retained_blockers validates each job record and retained entry. A non-object record, a non-list escapedProcesses, or an entry without integer pid, start_us and uid is a path-specific waiting reason, not a crash or a bypass. Escaped helpers survive cancellation
When a payload starts a helper in a separate process group, cancelling or timing out the job now reports the helper but does not stop it. The helper can keep consuming CPU after the shared lock is released. The job returns cleanup_failed after a hold of up to 300 seconds, and later jobs wait until the helper exits or someone stops it manually.

Intended. The maintainer chose report-only for escaped descendants in 22638a7. A recheck followed by kill cannot exclude PID reuse in between, and macOS has no identity-bound signal, so the queue must not signal processes outside its pinned group. The consequences you list are the accepted trade: the job ends cleanup_failed with the helper named, the lock is held through the cleanup hold, and later admissions wait until the helper exits or a person stops it. The README's "Escaped descendants" section and the PR's Risk section state this.

Separate state directories miss helpers
If two invocations use different --state-dir values but the same shared --lock, this scan cannot see a tokenless helper recorded by the first job. Once the first runner releases the lock, the second job can start while that helper is still running, despite the new admission check.

Valid, as a scope limit. Retained records live under each state directory, so a job using a different --state-dir with the same shared --lock cannot see a tokenless escapee recorded by another state directory. Token-bearing escapees are still caught machine-wide by the owner-token scan, and every default caller, including the heavy-admit wrapper, uses the default state directory. The README already scopes FIFO ordering to this tool's tickets. This head is frozen for review, so I'm reporting it to the maintainer as a residual rather than changing it here.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Agreed. This is a documented scope limitation rather than an actionable defect for this frozen head: retained-process records are state-directory-local, while token-bearing escapees remain discoverable machine-wide. Since the default callers share the default state directory, I’ll treat this as a residual risk for the maintainer rather than request a change in this PR.

Compare destination IDs case-insensitively.
The agent-device exemption for simulator jobs fails open when the service's destination ID uses different letter case from the target device.
job["device"]must exactly match audidfromxcrun simctl list devices -j, so it is always uppercase (Line 1042).- Line 477 uses an exact string comparison against the service's

id=<lowercase udid>for the same device,match.group(1) != deviceisTrue. The service is then classified as"ignored", and the simulator job is admitted while the service targets its device. - The comment on Line 475 names this risk: a destination can resolve to the target device while the device is still
Shutdown. In that state, thetarget["state"] != "Shutdown"check does not block the job. - UUID parsing is normally case-insensitive. Normalize both sides before comparing them.

What changed
Agents on this Mac have been serializing heavy local QA by hand.
qa-slot.pyand one-off scripts likepackage-run.pyeach took~/.codex/local-ios-qa.lockand checked memory and disk on their own. A manager session then polled for the result. This PR addstools/qa-resource/qa_resource.py, a small stdlib-only runner that queues one job at a time behind that same lock.A caller submits a command with its argv, cwd, job id and kind, which is
package, renderorsimulator. The runner handles the rest:qa-slot.pyorpackage-run.pykeep working unchanged.qa-slot.py, not calibrated values. It waits for other heavy processes (xcodebuild, swift-build, swift-test, swift-frontend, swift-driver, blender) to exit, using kqueue, and never signals them.xcodebuild test-without-building -only-testing AgentDeviceRunnerUITests/RunnerTests/testCommandservice is recognized by its full command line, not its name:test-without-buildingmust be its only action andtestCommandits only selected test. It never blocks package or render jobs. It blocks a simulator job unless every destination names a different device byid=, since a name, an OS or an implicit destination may resolve to that job's device.simctl.runandsubmithold SIGTERM, SIGINT and SIGHUP from job creation until their handlers are installed, so an interruption at any point after the job exists is recorded ascancelled. A setup failure that cannot be recorded removes the new job directory, keeping the id reusable. The runner resets an inheritedSIGCHLD=SIG_IGNwhile it owns the payload; under it, Darwin reaped the payload and a failing job was recorded assucceeded.killcannot rule out reuse in between, and macOS has no identity-bound signal. A live escapee ends the jobcleanup_failed, keeps the shared lock through the cleanup hold, and makes later admissions wait while that exact process is alive.Cancelling without signaling a PID
cancelused to check the runner's start time and then send SIGTERM to its PID, so a PID reused in between could get the signal. Now each runner holds the read end ofcancel.fifoin its job directory, and a listener thread turns a byte there into SIGTERM for the runner's own main thread.cancelwrites that byte. When no runner is reading, the open fails and nothing is sent. An interruptedsubmitused to exit 130 without a receipt while its runner kept going. Now it cancels the runner, which is still its own unreaped child, and writes the receipt withcancelRequested, unless the interruption landed mid-write: stdout was then blocked, and writing again would makesubmitunstoppable. Asubmitinterrupted while still waiting for its queue ticket records the job as cancelled instead of leaving it queued and stale, and a failed first record write removes the new job directory so the id stays reusable. Admission also compares heavy-process names case-insensitively, soBlender.appcounts, and the ticket counter is replaced atomically.Descendants that leave the job's process group
The first version signaled only the job's process group. A real
swift testcancel through the queue then leftswiftpm-testing-helperrunning at full CPU. SwiftPM starts that helper in its own process group, so afterswift-testdied launchd adopted it, and the runner had already released the shared lock. Now the runner puts a random per-job owner token in the child's environment. At cleanup it finds escaped processes either by that exact token, which it reads from each same-user process's exec-time arguments through
KERN_PROCARGS2, or by a live parent chain from the job's child. Apssnapshot only nominates candidates. The parent chain counts only when the kernel's current links, read from the pinned process up to the child, hold at every step and each parent started no later than its child, so a reused PID is not adopted. It never matches by name. It pins each one to its PID, kernel start time in microseconds and uid, and records it inescapedProcesses. Earlier versions signalled these processes after a recheck; the maintainer chose report-only instead, because that recheck cannot exclude PID reuse before the signal.A parent blocks on
wait, which takes the job's liveness flock, or readsjob.json.statusandcancelwork the same way. README has the commands, the exit codes and what the tool cannot sense. Why
Root wants to hand heavy tests, simulator runs and Blender renders to a queue while deterministic work continues, without a manager session spending tokens on 15-second polls. The runner waits in its own process. Each wait has a deadline. Admission and job run time have separate limits.
