What changed

Two fixes for #7's Measure Lab. This PR targets t3/measure-lab, so merging it updates #7. The original branch is untouched.

  • A restarted session no longer locks out taps. A camera interruption's end can be stamped just before a new session's reset and delivered after it. TrackingStability refused that end as a pre-reset report but kept the interruption. The new session then said "Camera paused" and refused every tap until another interruption ended. A camera interruption belongs to the camera rather than to an AR run, so interruption reports now ignore the reset cutoff, and timestamp order alone decides which one wins. Tracking reports keep the cutoff and the fresh-cycle rule, so tracking from before the reset still can't make taps count.
  • The Walls sheet no longer calls an unconfirmed check "passes". A check point on an estimated or extended plane, or tapped at a shallow look-down, can be within tolerance without confirming the wall. The engine already treated it as unconfirmed, but the sheet showed "passes". Rows now read the outcome from WallCheck using the point's own warnings. They show "confirms", "within tolerance, not confirmed" with those warnings listed, or "fails". A check whose point record is missing reads as not confirmed. session.json is unchanged.

Why

These are Greptile 4159722760 (the interruption lock) and 4115045465/4159722773 (the Walls sheet) on #7. Both were confirmed against #7's head, dcbe39fd. The original #7 task finished on Sep 26 and is stopped, with no unpublished work, so this repair is on its own branch.

Verification

  • swift test in experiments/measure-lab/Geometry: 124 tests in 17 suites pass at 68022489, up from 114.
    • New TrackingStability regressions:
      • start 10 → reset 20 → end 19 → limited 20.2 → normal 21 is stable at 22;
      • the same with the end delivered after the fresh normal report;
      • an interruption still running across a reset keeps taps waiting until its own end;
      • a pre-reset end can't end an interruption that began after the reset;
      • an older end can't clear a newer start queued before the reset, in either delivery order (found by the independent review; the first version, e7ac6543, let taps count there).
    • New WallCheck.outcome(passes:contactWarnings:) cases cover each flag, a clean contact, and a missing point record.
  • With the old TrackingStability.swift, the first two regressions fail. The two newer-start regressions fail against e7ac6543 by reading the code; that check wasn't re-run.
  • An unsigned xcodebuild of the MeasureLab scheme for generic iOS succeeded at e7ac6543. The follow-up changes only the geometry package.
  • Not run: a physical phone. The interruption timing depends on real ARKit callbacks.

UI changes

The Walls sheet rows' text changes as described above. There are no screenshots: the Simulator can't reach the ARKit flow that creates walls.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Wall checks now distinguish confirmed, unconfirmed, and failed results, including contact warnings or a notice when check-point records are missing.
    • Measurements beyond a wall’s contact points can now be flagged, and later wall checks can update warnings on saved measurements.
    • Tracking stability now accounts for event order and interruptions; a fresh stability interval begins after tracking resumes.
    • Failed session saves can be retried, and exports wait for a successful save.
  • Documentation
    • Added session format and outdoor testing guides, and streamlined the project overview.

…d checks as unconfirmed

A camera interruption's end can be stamped just before a new session's reset and delivered
after it. TrackingStability refused it as pre-reset but kept the interruption, so the new
session said "Camera paused" and refused every tap until another interruption ended. It now
accepts the end of an interruption it still holds; only reports after the reset can start a
stable run. Greptile 4159722760 on #7.

The Walls sheet showed every check within tolerance as "passes", including a contact on an
estimated or extended plane or a shallow look-down, which can't confirm the wall. Rows now read
the outcome from WallCheck with the contact's own warnings and name them. 4115045465 / 4159722773.

📝 Walkthrough

The changes add tracking stability and interruption ordering, ledger-backed wall and measurement qualification, and retry handling for closed-session manifests. They also update session UI, export behavior, and Measure Lab documentation.

Changes: Measure Lab session behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Timestamped tracking stability
experiments/measure-lab/Geometry/Sources/MeasureGeometry/TrackingStability.swift, experiments/measure-lab/MeasureLab/AR/*, experiments/measure-lab/MeasureLab/Session/LabSession.swift, experiments/measure-lab/Geometry/Tests/MeasureGeometryTests/TrackingStabilityTests.swift
Tracking and interruption reports are filtered by timestamp. AR session resets use a shared uptime cutoff. Tests cover report ordering, interruptions, and resets.
Wall checks and measurement warnings
experiments/measure-lab/Geometry/Sources/MeasureGeometry/{Warnings,Measurements,Wall,MeasurementLedger}.swift, experiments/measure-lab/MeasureLab/Session/{LabSession,SessionManifest}.swift, experiments/measure-lab/MeasureLab/UI/{SessionSheet,MeasureSheet}.swift, experiments/measure-lab/Geometry/Tests/MeasureGeometryTests/{WarningsTests,MeasurementsTests,MeasurementLedgerTests}.swift
The ledger records checks and measurements, and recalculates warnings as wall qualification changes. Contact-bound readings can add warnings. Session validation rows display check outcomes and contact warnings.
Closed-session manifest retries
experiments/measure-lab/Geometry/Sources/MeasureGeometry/{ClosedManifests,StorageErrorState}.swift, experiments/measure-lab/MeasureLab/Session/{LabSession,SessionManifest,SessionStore}.swift, experiments/measure-lab/Geometry/Tests/MeasureGeometryTests/{ClosedManifestsTests,StorageErrorStateTests}.swift
Pending or unsaved closed-session manifests remain retained for writes and retries. Storage errors track retryable current-manifest and closed-session failures. Export proceeds only when saving succeeds.
Session guidance and interface updates
experiments/measure-lab/{README.md,PROTOCOL.md,SESSION-FORMAT.md}, experiments/measure-lab/MeasureLab/UI/FailureView.swift
The README summarizes project criteria and commands. The protocol and session-format documents describe test procedures and session data. Camera-access guidance now includes restarting the app.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 68022

The changes to interruption handling, wall-check outcomes and closed-session manifest retries show no concrete merge-blocking defect. The README still reports an outdated test count (114 instead of 124). Update it for accuracy; this does not affect runtime behavior.

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 68022

The fixes preserve fresh-tracking requirements while allowing camera interruptions to end across session resets. Saved wall checks now display uncertainty rather than misleading confirmation, without changing stored data. No material new security risk was identified in the reviewed behavior.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated effects are on camera-pause recovery, tap eligibility, and wall-check presentation within Measure Lab. The inspected paths do not introduce a broader identity, privilege, or cross-service transition; public Swift declarations alone do not establish remotely attacker-controlled reachability.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Repository-local callbacks are stamped with system uptime and delivered on the main queue. LabSession applies accepted tracking and interruption changes, while CaptureController checks the tap blocker and normal frame tracking before submitting a tap. These controls remain in place after interruption reports stop using the reset cutoff.

[Medium impact] The reviewed changes appear safe to merge, with no new actionable issues found.

Summary

This PR fixes interruption recovery across session resets and makes wall-check rows distinguish confirmed, unconfirmed, and failed checks.

It also:

  • Camera interruptions and tracking reports keep their order across a new session.
  • Wall checks and measurements show when their evidence is incomplete.
  • Session records stay queued until their writes are saved.
  • Measure Lab's field test and session format now have focused guides.

No new actionable issues were found. Checks here were source-only; tests, the native iOS UI, and physical-phone callback timing were not run.

e7ac654 accepted a pre-reset interruption end but still refused pre-reset starts. With start
10, reset 20, then end 15 and start 18 delivered, the end cleared the interruption and the
newer start was dropped, so taps could count while the camera was still interrupted. A camera
interruption belongs to the camera, not the AR run, so its reports now ignore the reset cutoff
and only timestamp order decides. Tracking reports keep the cutoff and fresh cycle, so pre-reset
tracking still can't make taps count. Found by an independent review of #196.

**Result.** No phone run or accuracy result. `swift test -j 2` passes 114 tests in 17 suites locally. CI run 36290127699 at 7b3ddcc passed the earlier 106-test suite, project drift check, and unsigned build. Visibility and matching the same feature remain operator responsibilities, not verified properties of accepted measurements.

1. `cp Config/Local.xcconfig.example Config/Local.xcconfig`.
2. Set `DEVELOPMENT_TEAM` to your Team ID and `BUNDLE_ID_PREFIX` to a prefix your team can register. The app id becomes `<prefix>.measurelab`.
3. Open `MeasureLab.xcodeproj`, pick the iPhone, and run.

Git ignores `Local.xcconfig`. Leave the team field in Xcode's Signing & Capabilities tab empty; setting it there writes your team into `project.pbxproj`, and CI's drift check fails.
**What changed.** Nothing yet.

Refresh the validation status.

The README reports 114 tests, but the current Geometry suite contains 124 tests across 17 suites. Update the count to 124.

“Nothing yet” describes the experiment outcome, not the PR change summary. Do not change that sentence solely because this PR modifies the implementation.
