…261001 chore(review): run Greptile again when PR commits change
Preserve main's push-review configuration while carrying the unchanged tested 485f1a6 app into a separate continuation branch. Co-Authored-By: Claude Code <noreply@anthropic.com>
Start over makes a new store, whose cleanup lists the previous scan's folder at once. While that scan's packet is still being assembled there is no scan.zip yet, so the folder was listed as never packaged and deleted from under the write, and the scan never reached Saved scans. Start over still doesn't wait. The new store's deferred deletion waits for the bundle write chain as it stood at reset (ScanFolderCleanup.run(after:)), then rechecks as before: a bundle that landed keeps its folder, a write that failed before zipping leaves it to be deleted, and a partial zip stays protected. Launch passes no writer and deletes at once. saveBundle also refuses inputs read from an earlier store before it touches the serial or the offered bundle, so the folder ownership holds locally rather than through its callers. Review found the test held only the first write. The second write ran unheld and rebuilt its folder after waiting, so a cleanup waiting for the wrong write could still pass, by scheduling or by that rebuild. Each write's end now releases the cleanups waiting for it and records which, under a lock, so the test checks that the first write released only the first cleanup. The second scan's inputs are made before the second cleanup lists, its write is held before zipping and checks that its inputs are still there instead of recreating them, and the two async tests have a one-minute time limit. The one-minute limit sat close to what these tests reported in the concurrent package suite: up to 82.5 s in hosted run 37161498639, which had no limit. The limit only turns a gate that is never released into a failure; the gates and assertions are unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Reapply retention after the awaited writer finishes
When cleanup starts while two completed scans already exist and the previous scan is still assembling its packet, the snapshot keeps the two completed folders and marks the active folder obsolete. After the wait, that folder's new completed bundle no longer matches listedAs, so run() skips it without evicting the oldest completed folder. This leaves three completed archives on disk, and repeated rapid start-overs can leave more, until another cleanup happens; SavedScanCatalog hides the extras because it still returns only two. Recalculate retention among the originally listed folders after the writer finishes while continuing to exclude folders created after the snapshot.

Confirmed. If two completed scans exist and the previous scan is still packing, the listing keeps the two and marks the packing folder obsolete. After the write lands, run() skips that folder (its entry changed from .absent to .complete) and evicts nothing, so three archives stay on disk. The extra is bounded: the next store creation (the next Start over or launch) lists again and trims back to the two newest, and Saved scans lists only those two in the meantime. Fixing it means ranking completed scans again after the wait, including folders the listing kept, so it changes the listing-time retention rule this PR builds on. I have routed it to the PR's acceptance owner and left this thread open.

Disposition: accepted as a trade-off of this fix, recorded in the PR's Risk section, with no code change here. The requirement for B44 is that no folder is deleted while its packet is being written, not that the phone holds exactly two archives at every moment. After a write completes during the wait, more completed archives can stay on disk until the next store is created; the next Start over or launch lists again and trims to the two newest. Saved scans shows only the newest two meanwhile. Correcting my earlier reply: I can't claim a fixed bound. The extra archives come from writes that complete during a wait, and nobody has measured their size. Ranking again after the wait, limited to the folders in the original listing, would be a separate retention-policy change, not part of this fix. Leaving this open for human review.

Delete unrelated obsolete scans before waiting
When Start over runs on a nearly full device and the snapshot contains both the active writer's folder and unrelated obsolete scans, this unconditional wait postpones every deletion until packet writing finishes. zipPacket must create scan.zip while the assembled packet still occupies disk space, so that writer can fail for lack of space even though cleanup already identified old folders that could have been removed safely; the cleanup frees them only after the archive has been lost. Delete obsolete paths that no captured writer can touch immediately, and defer only the writer-owned folders.

Confirmed. run(after:) waits before deleting anything, so obsolete folders that no in-flight write can touch also wait for the packing write. Those are older completed scans past the two kept places, abandoned folders that were never packaged, and stray files. On a nearly full phone, that space isn't freed until after the zip is written. Splitting the deletion needs a rule for which folders the write chain can touch. The cleanup doesn't know that today, because every never-packaged folder looks the same. So it's a design change, not a bounds fix. I have routed it to the PR's acceptance owner and left this thread open.

Disposition: accepted as a trade-off of this fix, recorded in the PR's Risk section, with no code change here. The cost is real: on a nearly full phone the save can fail for lack of space, where deleting unrelated old data first might have let it finish. The choice favors never deleting source data from under a write. An early split by entry type would depend on an undocumented ordering between writes and retention, and would still leave photo-only folders waiting, so this PR adds no second deletion mode without a demonstrated need. The existing error handling stays, and the app still promises no saved file until the zip is complete. Leaving this open for human review.

What changed
Starting over while a scan's archive was still being assembled could delete its folder before
scan.zipexisted. Cleanup now waits for the packet-writer chain before deleting its original list of old folders. Start over itself stays immediate. The writer also rejects packet inputs from a previous scan before changing the current scan's sharing state.
This follows #210 and targets its frozen
codex/candidate-20261003branch. The branch starts from main, so it also preserves #194's push-review configuration. Neither main nor #210 has been advanced. Why
The existing check protects a partial ZIP, but packet assembly happens before the ZIP is created. Waiting only in cleanup protects that earlier stage without adding a saving screen, a persistent marker or an age-based deletion rule. Keeping the original folder listing prevents a delayed cleanup from deleting a newer scan.
Verification
Risk
This protects active packet writes from this app's cleanup. It does not guarantee completion if the app is killed or storage fails. A queued write superseded before it starts is still skipped. Raw recorder-byte immutability and physical-device behavior are not established by these tests. Existing partial-archive retention is unchanged.
Two accepted trade-offs, from Codex's P2 review of
a76ba4d4. Both follow from making deletion wait for the write chain, so a folder is never deleted while its packet is being written:Checklist
