…261001 chore(review): run Greptile again when PR commits change
Preserve main's push-review configuration while carrying the unchanged tested 485f1a6 app into a separate continuation branch. Co-Authored-By: Claude Code <noreply@anthropic.com>
… so in the packet (B-12)
UNVALIDATED SOURCE CHECKPOINT: not compiled, and no package, app or UI tests have
run. Local admission was refused (memory pressure, then a heavy process); validation
is to run on hosted CI after publication.
A past_end request asked the homeowner to walk on past an end, and its screen offered
only "I can't get there": a wall that really stops sooner had no true answer. The
engine already accepted an end marked during the request, but no control reached it,
and that path skipped the walk's aim check. Now the follow-up screen offers the walk's
own "Wall ends here" for that end, with the circle, the tape's preview, the refusal
card and the end question (shared `EndQuestionAnswers`). The mark goes through
`EndAim` (tracking, side, below ground, reach), from the circle or a point. A nearer
end is allowed and bounds the scene; it keeps the walk's minimum wall length
(`CoverageMap.endWouldLeaveTooLittle`, refused as `tooLittleWall`). "I can't get
there" stays the decline and restores the cleared end. The question holds the decline
and "Show my result" until answered, and is cleared if the request is left otherwise.
Every wall end was stamped with a mark time, so ends the app placed from the walk
("Can't get there", "The wall keeps going", a past-end request met by views) read as
homeowner marks. `WallEndStamp` records the source: a homeowner's mark keeps its time;
an inferred end has no time and `attrs.inferred: true` in the packet (declared in the
vendored manifest schema, pin updated; packet/README explains it and the end
outcomes). A restored end keeps its stamp. `mark_end` is met only for a homeowner
mark; "The wall keeps going" stays `cannot_reach`. Scene, server and recon unchanged.
"Wall ends here" also requires the phone's current tracking to be normal, not only
the last sampled frame's.
Tests (not yet run): WallEndProvenanceTests (stamps, settlement, encoding, schema,
writer refusal, nearer-end clipping, minimum length) and PastEndRecoveryUITests
(demo at default and largest text: offered, refused, question; other requests offer
nothing; two replays on the real engine through the answer gate, marking again
nearer and declining, checking scene bounds and kinds and the packet marks and
guidance via a debug-only gate export of the last upload's packet inputs).

…; its fade stays scoped UNVALIDATED: not compiled; no package, app or UI tests have run. Root's review of a7c65bd: `markWallEnd` refused an end that left too little wall only after `aimedEnd` had accepted it, while the tape's preview went through `circleEnd` without that check, so the preview showed an end the button refused, and `publishEndPreview` cleared the refusal on the next frame. The past-end-only minimum (`CoverageMap.endWouldLeaveTooLittle`, `WallFrame.minWallLength`) is now part of `aimedEnd`, which the button, the preview and the refusal clearing all use. The walk is unchanged: its minimum still applies at "Done with this wall". Whether 0.79 m is the right minimum stays open. The refusal reads "House Scan can't use a wall that short" / "If this is where the wall ends, tap I can't get there to continue.": an app limit, with no claim about what a battery needs and no nudge to mark a farther end. Motion (prep-for-prod review): the circle stays mounted on a past-end request and fades with "Wall ends here" on the same `Motion.settle` spring, so the pair no longer parts. The end controls fade in their own container; before, the whole bottom stack animated with them, sliding the progress and the tape, and still moved under Reduce Motion. Now the rows below move into place at once, and under Reduce Motion the controls swap without animation and the circle only changes opacity briefly. At accessibility text sizes, the past-end card shows the server’s detail plus the new aiming instruction without folding them to leave camera space. Plausible, not yet shown. The walk's own "Is this the right end?" step also keeps its card unfolded at AX5, because its second line is the action (WallWalkScreen.swift:134-142), and this screen leaves a server's words unfolded on purpose (GapRequestScreen.swift:208-214). PastEndRecoveryUITests captures the offered circle at AX5; I will decide on folding from those frames rather than guess.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
That’s fair. The walk’s AX5 behavior and the intentional unfolded server copy make folding a policy choice rather than an objective defect here. The AX5 capture is the right evidence to decide it; I’d only ensure the assertion checks that the reticle is visually unobscured, not merely present or hittable. I’ll treat this as a validation note, not a required change.

Confirmed by CI run 37165788075 on 15cf658: at AX5 the card covers the circle on the offered frame (gapRequest-pastEnd-AX5), and on the refusal (gapRequest-pastEnd-refused-AX5) it fills the screen. The walk's own circle step does the same at AX5 (wallWalk-markEnd-AX5-stacked), so this screen inherits a gap rather than adding one. Whether to fix both screens here or separately has gone to the PR's owner; this thread stays open until then.

Follow-up: #214 folds the card around the circle on both this screen and the walk's end step at accessibility sizes, and adds UI tests that read the circle's real frame (56 pt, window centre, clear of the card and actions). Its hosted run is in progress and nothing is validated yet; this thread stays open until #214's frames show the circle in view.

Status: #214 is green at 6a5b240 (run 37175974280, attempt 2). Its AX5 captures show the circle open on the walk's end step and the past-end offer and refusal. The UI tests confirm the circle is 56 pt, at the exact window centre, and clear of the card and actions. This thread stays open until #214 lands on this branch.
…ame can't leave a stale end on the tape Since a7c65bd the circle's end also checks the phone's tracking now (state.tracking), which a pose-only frame updates before ingest returns early, without the guidance update that republishes the preview. The tape then showed an end that "Wall ends here" refused (Greptile, #213). Unvalidated: pose-only frames come only from live capture, so no replay or UI test drives this path. Do not settle a past-end request with a corner answer
When a homeowner marks the end and selects “It turns a corner,” this shared component calls answerWallEnd(turnsCorner: true), which leaves the end unexplored but still calls settlePastEnd() and records the request as met. The server contract states that an unexplored end means the wall continues and that only following the corner settles it, so this path captures no next wall, corrupts the guidance outcome, and can cause the server to issue another past_end request. Hide this answer here or route it through the next-wall capture flow before settling the request.

Valid. server/README.md:108 says an unexplored end raises past_end and "nothing else settles it", yet "It turns a corner" here leaves the end unexplored and logs the request met (ScanEngine+Actions.swift:196). The corner also can't be followed during a request (markNextWall needs the walk). Which honest answer a request takes at a corner is a product decision; it has gone to the PR's owner, and the fix follows it.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 15cf658. A corner on a past_end request now goes through skipCurrentGap: the request closes cannot_reach, with no check mark, and the corner stays the homeowner's mark, unexplored, rather than the cleared end coming back. GapPlanner.pastEndPlan(side:end:) now owns the 2 m extent, and the request planned from the corner is recorded among the skipped ones, so the next answer doesn't raise that repeat (exact-span matching alone missed it once the mark moved the end). A past_end from a different end, and every other request, can still be raised. Tests: ServerGapTests aCornerIsNotAskedForAgainFromThatEnd, nearer and farther on both sides, and the real-engine replay testACornerAtThePastEndIsNotAskedForAgainOnTheRealEngine.

Do not emit an unversioned packet proposal
For any end inferred from the walk, this now writes attrs.inferred while PacketManifest.version remains 1.1. However, packet/README.md:11-19 says packet 1.1 is retired and that the fields in this proposal must not be sent until the server-side contract owners adopt them with a version and compatibility rule. Modifying only the app's vendored test schema does not update that contract, so shared scan ZIPs now claim to be 1.1 while carrying unapproved semantics that downstream readers cannot safely rely on; keep this metadata internal until the contract is adopted or emit it under an approved packet version.

I disagree. Packet 1.1 is the app's own Share-scan bundle, which nothing uploads (ScanEngine.swift:2250-2255, saveBundle), not the 0.4 intake packet that packet/README.md:3-7 names as the contract. The "must not send" rule applies to that contract. 1.1 already carries proposal fields in the same way (end_kind, attrs.operable, guidance[]), and its vendored schema pins attrs.inferred alongside them. The README's proposal item 3 now lists inferred for the 0.5 contract's owners to adopt or not.

Preserve a truthful end even when the wall is short
When the homeowner aims at the real end during a past_end follow-up and that mark would leave less than minWallLength, this branch discards the mark and tells them to choose “I can't get there.” That action takes the restore path in settleClearedEnd(), putting the older, farther inferred end back into the next scene even though the homeowner just identified where the wall actually stops; the restored length can then make a non-fitting wall appear long enough for placement. Keep the measured end and report that the wall is too short, or stop/restart the scan, rather than restoring the contradicted endpoint.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Leaving this as is: the trade-off is the 0.79 m policy question the PR keeps open on purpose, not something to settle here. The refusal copy ("House Scan can't use a wall that short") says it is the app's limit, not the wall's, and "I can't get there" restores the earlier end as the inferred, unexplored end it was: the scan stopped there, not a claim that the wall reaches that far. Whether a measured short end should be kept, or the scan stopped, goes to the owner with that policy question.
…for the reason they name CI run 37164872574 failed two expectations of mine, not the code under test: manifestJSONShape still expected the synthetic packet's left end to carry t, which it lost when that end became inferred; and theWriterRefusesAnInferredEndWithATime marked its homeowner end at uptime 3, before the synthetic capture's start at 100, so the writer rightly refused it. The refusals are now pinned to their exact errors, so the inferred-with-a-time case can't pass on the earlier time check instead. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

@codex review |
…d its repeat isn't raised "It turns a corner" on a past_end request left the end unexplored and logged the request met (Codex P1, #213). The server settles an unexplored end only with views past it (server/README.md, "unexplored"), so the next answer could ask again, and a request can't follow a corner (`markNextWall` runs only on the walk). The answer now goes through `skipCurrentGap`: the request closes cannot_reach with no check mark, and the corner stays the homeowner's mark, unexplored (`PastEndSettlement.keepMarked`), not the cleared end restored. The skipped plan was planned from the cleared end, and the repeat is planned from the corner, so exact-span matching missed it whenever the mark moved the end. `GapPlanner.pastEndPlan(side:end:)` now owns the 2 m past-end extent for `plan(for:)`, and the corner answer also records the request planned from the corner among the skipped. That request was never shown: no guidance entry and no cells for it. A past_end from a different end later on that side, and every other request, can still be raised. Docs: packet/README.md says up front that the app's packet 1.1 is the local Share scan archive, not intake and not an approved 0.4 revision, and that `gap_past_end` is met by views or an end the wall stops at, not by a corner. Tests: ServerGapTests covers the 2 m owner, plus nearer and farther corners on both sides: repeat dropped, later end raised, ground in the same answer raised. A demo UI test shows no "Got it, thanks". A real-engine replay through the answer gate (`-autopilotPastEndCorner`) checks one past_end (cannot_reach), one server ground request, and the homeowner's unexplored corner with its time and nothing reported past it. Not run locally. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

What changed
A follow-up that asks the homeowner to look beyond a wall end now offers "Wall ends here". It reuses the walk's aiming check, wall-map preview, refusal message and end question. Before, the engine could accept this answer, but the follow-up screen had no control for it.
The answer then decides how the follow-up closes:
limit, and a nearer end shortens the wall without moving the other end.cannot_reach, with no check mark. The corner stays where the homeowner marked it, as anunexploredend. A follow-up can't follow a corner, and the server settles an unexplored end only with views past it (server/README.md). So the app also records the request planned from the corner as skipped (GapPlanner.pastEndPlan(side:end:)). The next answer won't raise that same unreachable request again. A request past a different end, and every other request, can still be raised. The capture packet now tells an end the homeowner marked apart from one inferred from the walk. An inferred end keeps its place and kind, has no mark time, and carries
attrs.inferred: true. The packet here is the app's local packet 1.1 behind "Share scan". Nothing uploads it, and packet/README.md now says so at the top. The scene sent to the server is unchanged. This PR follows #210 and targets its frozen
codex/candidate-20261003branch. It keeps main's #194 review configuration. Neither source PR's base nor main has moved. Why
Walking farther is not always the right answer: the wall may end where the homeowner is looking. The follow-up needs the walk's truthful end action, without treating an unseen stretch as clear. An end placed from the walked distance is not a homeowner's mark, and keeping the two apart makes the packet's marks and guidance log readable.
UI changes
New on a past-end follow-up, captured on an iPhone 17 Simulator at 15cf658 (run 37165788075). The follow-up had none of these controls before, so there is no before capture.
While the end question is open, the decline and "Show my result" wait for its answer. The button and the wall-map preview share one aim verdict, which covers current tracking and the app's existing minimum wall length. A tracking change also refreshes the preview, so a pose-only frame can't leave an end on the tape that the button would refuse.
Known limitation at the largest text size. At AX5 the card covers the aiming circle on this screen, as it already does on the walk's own "Is this the right end of the wall?" step. "Wall ends here" stays reachable, but the circle it marks at is hidden, and on a refusal the card fills the screen. This PR keeps parity with the walk. #214 is the follow-up for both screens. Its run at
6a5b2401is green, and its AX5 captures show the circle in view, but this PR still has the limitation until #214 lands on top of it.Verification
Hosted run 37165788075 on 15cf658, which tested merge commit 938d597, passed every step on an iPhone 17 Simulator:
appSceneMatchesTheSchemaandplansTheReplay.FullFlowUITests.testFullFlowFromRealReplay.PastEndRecoveryUITestspassed all 11. These include the default and AX5 frozen states and the corner's demo test. They also include three real-engine replays that answer the uploads from the test: marking a nearer end, declining, and the corner. The corner replay checks the next answer's repeated left past-end request: it isn't raised, and the ground request in the same answer is.Risk
The replays mark through an autopilot tap at a point, not a phone aimed by hand. The packet assertions read the production packet-input projection, not the finished ZIP. VoiceOver speech, physical tracking and rendered motion are untested.
Whether 0.79 m is the right minimum wall length is still an open policy question, not a measured installation rule. The follow-up respects that app limit and explains how to go on without inventing a farther end. A Codex note asks whether a measured short end should be kept instead of restored. That belongs with the same question, and its thread stays open. The Codex thread on packet 1.1 compatibility also stays open, with the reasoning above.
