What

Every issue KnoTrack syncs to Linear is now stamped with a configured KnoTrack label (label_id) and project (project_id), so KnoTrack-managed issues are distinguishable in a shared Linear workspace.

Design (frontier panel, 4 models)

The sync never auto-creates the label/project — Linear allows duplicate names, so auto-creation would spawn duplicates. Instead the operator supplies IDs of pre-existing resources, and KnoTrack enforces them:

  • New optional adapter config: linear.label_id, linear.project_id.
  • validateTags() checks both against the team before any write; a missing/wrong-team id → definitive LINEAR_TAG_CONFIG (no wedge), validated before the pending claim on create.
  • createIssue stamps labelIds + projectId at creation; updates enforce projectId and add the label atomically via issueAddLabel (never clobbers other labels).
  • Tag config folded into the content-hash (re-registering with a different tag re-syncs).
  • Crash-recovery / pending-link / hidden-marker behavior unchanged.

Known limitation (documented): a label a human removes from an existing issue is re-added on the next content change, not on a no-op sync.

Tests

3 integration tests (create-stamps, update-enforces, bad-id → LINEAR_TAG_CONFIG no-wedge). Full suite green (370). Docs updated (PRD §4.1/§4.14, TRD schema + prefixes).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Configure optional Linear labels and projects when registering a project.
    • Synced Linear issues now receive configured labels and project associations during creation and updates.
    • Changes to label or project settings trigger synchronization updates.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Invalid, unavailable, mismatched, or inaccessible Linear tag configurations now produce clear configuration errors without creating incomplete issues.
  • Documentation
    • Updated project registration and synchronization documentation with the new configuration options and error behavior.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage for tag validation, issue creation and updates, and failure handling.

So KnoTrack-managed issues are distinguishable in a shared Linear workspace,
every synced issue is now tagged with a configured label (label_id) and project
(project_id) on the Linear adapter. Per the frontier panel (4 models), the sync
does NOT auto-create these resources — Linear allows duplicate names, so
auto-creation would spawn duplicate labels/projects. Instead:

- New optional adapter config: linear.label_id, linear.project_id (IDs of
  pre-existing Linear resources).
- validateTags() checks both against the team BEFORE any write; a missing or
wrong-team id returns a definitive LINEAR_TAG_CONFIG (no wedge, clean retry),
validated before the pending claim on create just like the workflow-state read.
- createIssue stamps labelIds + projectId at creation; updates enforce projectId
via issueUpdate and add the label atomically via issueAddLabel (never clobbers
  other labels).
- label_id/project_id are folded into the content-hash so re-registering with a
different tag re-syncs and re-stamps instead of a false no-op.
- Crash-recovery/pending-link/hidden-marker behavior is unchanged.

Known limitation (documented): a label a human removes from an existing issue is
re-added on the next content change, not on a no-op sync. Docs (PRD 4.1/4.14,
TRD schema + error prefixes) and 3 integration tests added. Full suite green (370).

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The PR adds optional Linear label and project targets to project registration. Sync validates these targets, includes them in payload hashing, applies them during issue creation and updates, and reports invalid configurations as LINEAR_TAG_CONFIG.

Changes

Linear tag targets

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configuration and payload contract
docs/PRD.md, docs/TRD.md, src/schemas/tools.ts, src/mcp/tools/register-project.ts, src/mcp/tools/linear-payload.ts
The Linear adapter accepts optional label_id and project_id values. Registration stores provided values. Payload hashes include configured tag values. Documentation defines validation and error behavior.
Linear target validation and mutations
src/linear/linear-client.ts
The client validates labels and projects, assigns projects during issue mutations, and attaches labels idempotently. Invalid, missing, cross-team, or inaccessible targets return LINEAR_TAG_CONFIG. Other operational failures remain unchanged.
Synchronization and integration coverage
src/mcp/tools/sync-to-linear.ts, tests/integration/sync-to-linear.test.ts, tests/unit/linear-payload.test.ts
Sync validates targets before creation, applies them during creation, updates, and pending-issue recovery, and tests hashing, propagation, and failure paths.

- linear-client validateTags: only wrap a definitive LINEAR_NOT_FOUND as
  LINEAR_TAG_CONFIG; pass operational errors (auth / rate-limit / timeout /
unknown) through unchanged so callers can retry/repair correctly
  (CodeRabbit + Codex).
- linear-client validateTags: paginate the project's teams before rejecting
membership, so a project on more teams than one page is not falsely blocked
  with LINEAR_TAG_CONFIG (Codex).
- linear-payload hash: add label_id/project_id to the content-hash ONLY when a
tag is configured, so an untagged adapter keeps its exact prior hash and does
not force a spurious Linear update on upgrade (Codex).
- docs: document that the label/project are not re-enforced on a no-op sync
(manual removal is restored on the next content change) -- PRD 4.14 (Codex).

Tests: operational-error passthrough; untagged-hash-unchanged + tagged-hash-
changes. Full suite green (373).

If Linear returned hasNextPage:true with the same endCursor, validateTags could
loop forever on unbounded reads. Track the previous cursor and, if it does not
advance, return a definitive LINEAR_UNKNOWN_ERROR instead of looping (CodeRabbit).

Addresses two CodeRabbit review comments on PR #27:
- T5.3 detailed status still said "offline-verified" with a remaining
real-workspace acceptance gate; it was dogfooded live in PRs #25/#26.
Updated to "dogfooded in a real Linear workspace" and marked the gate cleared.
- T5.4 entry labeled "unit-tested"; it has both unit
  (tests/unit/revoke-credential-args.test.ts) and integration
  (tests/integration/revoke-credential.test.ts) coverage. Relabeled
  "unit- and integration-tested".

Docs-only; no code touched.
