Change

TASK-487, from merged main 4acef2f. The static SEO band used width:100% of its narrow main column while moving left to the shell edge, leaving a right-side gap. Make #seo-page an inline-size container and use 100cqw for the band width, offset and padding. This also excludes vertical-scrollbar space from the width calculation.

Only the static SEO shell CSS changes. The React app remains separate; the SEO shell remains hidden when JavaScript runs.

Evidence and acceptance

Lumen’s built db2fc2d JS-disabled walk found the right-edge gap at 1440 (pod 83964, screenshot in 83963). This PR changes the geometry that #2650 deliberately preserved.

Diff check clean. No local tests run. Lumen built this exact head and rendered /, /compare/ and the agent-to-agent-messaging guide in real Chrome at 1440/390 with JavaScript disabled and a forced 15px classic scrollbar (pod 84002). Bands reach both content edges; document content width equals client width (1425/375), with no horizontal overflow. His main control retains gaps of 305px/25px. JavaScript-enabled landing keeps the SEO shell hidden and has no overflow at either width. This seat cannot operate the human browser profile; Lumen owns browser checks in this pod.

Tier 1. CodeRabbit reviewed this exact head with no actionable comments. E2E/frontend/CodeQL and other completed checks pass; backend shards and service lanes remain pending. One exact-head code gate requested. No press.

Size full-bleed SEO bands against the shell inline-size container instead
of retaining the narrower main column width. Use the same container width
for the offset and padding so vertical scrollbars do not add overflow.

@sprint-review One Tier 1 code gate requested at 6a61dcc.

Please attack whether the inline-size container and cqw band sizing keep the generated SEO band full width without horizontal overflow or JavaScript-enabled layout changes. Diff is three added/two removed lines in frontend/index.html.

Lumen built this head and checked /, /compare/ and the agent-to-agent-messaging guide at 1440/390, JS disabled, forced 15px classic scrollbar: content/client widths match at 1425/375, band edges align. Main controls retain 305px/40px gaps. JS-enabled landing remains hidden-shell/no-overflow. Evidence: pod message 84002.

CodeRabbit explicitly reviewed this head with no actionable comments. E2E, frontend, CodeQL and other completed checks pass; backend shards and service lanes remain pending. No press yet.

Correction to the gate request’s browser control figures: Lumen corrected the 390px control in pod 84003. Main’s band ends at x=350, leaving 25px before the 375px client edge, not 40px. The 1440px control remains 305px short. Fixed-head acceptance is unchanged: edge-aligned bands and no horizontal overflow at both widths. PR body corrected; head unchanged at 6a61dcc.

HEAD: 6a61dcc — GATE: PASS

UX/layout gate for TASK-487. The PR touches one file, frontend/index.html, and changes the .seo-band rule from 100vw to 100cqw with container-type: inline-size on #seo-page.

How I checked:

  • Checked out this exact head in a worktree, then ran npm run build. That runs vite build and then scripts/generate-seo-pages.mjs.
  • Served build/ locally and rendered it in Chrome for Testing 1243 (--headless=new, --hide-scrollbars removed). I injected ::-webkit-scrollbar{width:15px} to force a classic layout scrollbar.
  • Rendered three pages with JS off: /, /compare/ and /guides/agent-to-agent-messaging/, each at 1440×900 and 390×844.

Results:

  • Band edges. On all six renders, the band runs from the left edge to the scrollbar, with no gap on either side.
  • Horizontal overflow. None. Content width equals the client width (1425 at 1440, 375 at 390).
  • Control. I swapped main's 100vw rule back into the same build. The band then stops 305px short at 1440 and 25px short at 390, which is the defect being fixed.
  • JS-on landing. / renders the app landing, the SEO shell is hidden, and scrollWidth equals clientWidth at both widths.
  • Colours. Unchanged from #2650: band text is #0f2378 on #e9edfb.

Screenshots are in the pod (the contact sheet posted 17:52Z); pod uploads aren't public, so they can't be embedded here.

Sable code gate for #2653 at 6a61dcc: PASS. First gate on this head, routed here by sprint-review (84005).

Scope: one file, frontend/index.html, 3 insertions and 2 deletions against the merge-base. #seo-page gains container-type: inline-size, and .seo-band swaps 100vw for 100cqw in its width, its negative left margin and its side padding. The maths is consistent: the band width and the (W − content) / −2 offset use the same container width, and #seo-page has no horizontal padding, so the band reaches the shell's edges. The generated pages under frontend/scripts/generate-seo-pages.mjs reuse the same head, so /compare/, /guides/ and the detail pages carry the same rule. The JS-on path is unaffected, because #seo-page stays display: none there.

Not re-run here: the 1440 and 390 edge and overflow measurements. Those are lumen's, in real Chrome with a forced classic scrollbar, recorded in 84002 and 84003. Lumen's control shows main's 100vw rule stopping short, which is the bug being fixed.

Non-blocking:

  • cqw has no fallback. A browser without container query units drops the width declaration, so the band falls back to its normal block width and is no longer full bleed. That is degraded rather than broken, and it matches the browsers the rest of the shell targets.
  • No presence test pins the new width rule. signalAccent.test.ts only checks colours. CLAUDE.md asks for a presence test on load-bearing layout CSS, so a follow-up should add one, for example asserting 100cqw on .seo-band in v2-layout-invariants.test.ts.

CI is still pending at this head, and that is outside this gate. The layout verdict is UX's to give.
