Config only: hoist the existing Node resolver (.js, .ts, .json) and extensionless import policy from the TypeScript override into shared backend configuration. JavaScript tests import TypeScript production modules too. Missing-import checks stay enabled; no source edits or rule disabling.
Measured corpus
Base: 136709aa0. Same 657 JavaScript files in both runs, identical ordered file lists. Node 22, existing backend dependency installation, no --fix or cache. From backend/:
Errors drop 3,944 (48.58%). Both commands exit 1: this does not make backend JavaScript lint green. The task's 2,279-error historical baseline and 85–90% projection do not describe this measured corpus. The projection came from three sampled files; the full corpus carries substantial other debt.
Remaining import diagnostics: expressAsyncErrors.test.js:1 cannot resolve express-async-errors in this existing dependency installation. CodeRabbit correctly identified the probe's intentional explicit .ts import; a file-scoped config override requires that suffix there. No source edits or rule disabling. Dependency installation was held fixed across both measurements; CI is the independent clean-install gate.
Checks
node --check backend/.eslintrc.js and git diff --check pass.
ESLint API probe with an extensionless require('./models/Message'): no import diagnostics.
Same probe for ./models/Task509Missing: import/no-unresolved and import/extensions both fire. Missing paths remain detected.
No Jest suites or local Docker build run. Tier 0, fresh CI pending at3f98bc11. Prior-head applicable CI passed; the config-only probe exception follows the minor CodeRabbit finding.
Rebased onto main 08a6bb6 at ddcfb22. The config conflict was adjacent override insertion: both main’s AgentPodReadCursor repository boundary and this PR’s sentry probe extension override are retained. Resolver/extension policies unchanged. Three-dot diff remains backend/.eslintrc.js only. Node syntax and diff checks pass. Earlier whole-corpus counts describe the original measured base, not this newer main; no fresh census claimed. Fresh CI and current-head gate pending.

Walkthrough
The ESLint configuration moves import resolution and extension handling to shared settings. It adds a file-specific rule that requires explicit .ts extensions for the Sentry probe.

Summary
Shared import rules backend/.eslintrc.js
Shared settings resolve .js, .ts, and .json files and allow extensionless imports for the listed JavaScript and TypeScript extensions. The TypeScript override no longer defines these settings. The Sentry probe override requires explicit .ts extensions.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2684: This PR also changes backend/.eslintrc.js and adds a repository boundary override.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2702: This PR documents backend JavaScript lint error counts and lint-gate status, which relate to the lint configuration changed here.

backend/.eslintrc.js: 1
18-26: Minor · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win
Suppress the intentional .ts require in the probe.
The shared import/extensions rule now applies to JavaScript and sets ts: 'never'. Because the rule checks CommonJS require() calls, npm run lint can fail on line 64. The probe requires the explicit suffix because its ts-node hook depends on it. Add a local suppression instead of changing the shared rule or removing .ts.
Suggested fix
const express = require('express');
// A literal path, both so eslint can see the target and so ts-node's hook is
// the only thing that has to understand the extension.
+ // eslint-disable-next-line import/extensions -- ts-node requires the explicit .ts suffix.
const { routerIsMounted } = require('../../services/pgBootService.ts');

Confirmed: the probe deliberately uses the explicit .ts path. TASK-509 forbids source edits, so3f98bc11 preserves that contract with a file-scoped import/extensions policy (ts: always); both import rules stay enabled. Fresh whole-corpus scan:657 files,4174 errors,834 warnings; import/extensions0. Missing-path control remains covered by the shared rule.

Tier 1 gate for #2683 at 3f98bc1. Lint config only, one file.
Checked:
The import/extensions rule and the resolver settings move from the TypeScript override into the base config, so JavaScript files get the same extensionless resolution.
Explicit-extension imports in backend: two hits. backend/__tests__/utils/sentryLayerWrapProbe.js:64 requires .ts on purpose, and the new override pins ts: 'always' for that file, so its behaviour is unchanged. The taskSourceRefImportBoundary hit is inside a string fixture, not an import.
CI at this head: Backend typecheck and lint pass, Backend tests 1/3 to 3/3 pass, Service Tests pass.
I did not re-run lint in a container. The lint result is CI's.
Share the Node resolver and extensionless import policy across JS and TS.
Keep missing-import detection enabled; no source files or rules disabled.

Rebased at ddcfb22 onto main08a6bb653, preserving both main’s AgentPodReadCursor repository import guard and the sentryLayerWrapProbe explicit-ts override. Resolver/extension policies unchanged. Only backend/.eslintrc.js in the three-dot PR diff; syntax/diff checks pass. Earlier lint census remains scoped to its measured base. Current-head CI and gate pending; earlier-head press/gate evidence does not clear this new head.

Tier 1 config gate: PASS at exact head ddcfb225ce81a36923932f47b1b104fdef316ce0.
The one-file delta hoists the existing Node import resolver and extension policy from the TypeScript override into the shared backend config. TypeScript retains its policy; JavaScript now resolves the same extensionless .ts modules. Neither missing-import rule is disabled. The Sentry probe's explicit .ts contract is preserved by its exact-file override, and main's AgentPodReadCursor repository boundary remains intact.
Independently ran eight ESLint API controls from a detached exact-head worktree on Node 22, with existing backend dependencies, no fix/cache:
Extensionless JS → TS and TS → TS imports resolve.
A missing JS import still emits both import/no-unresolved and import/extensions.
An ordinary JS file's explicit .ts import still emits import/extensions.
The Sentry probe accepts explicit .ts and refuses the extensionless form; linting its actual file has no import diagnostics.
A service importing the private AgentPodReadCursor model still emits no-restricted-modules.
All eight passed. This verifies policy behavior, not a fresh whole-corpus error census. The author's earlier 8,118→4,174 counts remain attributed to its original measured base; backend JavaScript lint is not thereby green. No application suites rerun locally for this config-only delta. Current-head CI's backend lint/types, test shards and service shards pass; CodeRabbit reports no actionable comments. Merge-tree against main 02c192d18 is clean and GitHub reports MERGEABLE.
