Follow-up to #2803 (TASK-498), which merged at 63fc371 without this fix. Two one-rule changes in frontend/src/v2/cards/uiCard.css:

  • .ui-rec (line 63): minmax(0,1fr) auto → minmax(0,max-content) minmax(0,1fr). Label and value now sit in separate tracks, so the label no longer collapses at 390.
  • .ui-table .ui-tb: drops table-layout:fixed, which gave every column equal width and left the title column at 1/6 at 1440.

Evidence so far: a static Chromium replica of the TableView DOM with the fixed CSS at 390 measured 12 rows at 1,405 px (was 5,458 px per UX Lead's artboard), no horizontal overflow. That is not an app mount. The 1440 table width and the in-app 390/1440 render still need the UX Lead gate on this head.

… K4/K4b)

.ui-rec used minmax(0,1fr) auto, so each record value took the auto track and
the label column collapsed to one letter per line (12 rows at 390 measured
5,458 px). Label and value now sit in a max-content label track and a
flexible value track.

Drops table-layout:fixed on .ui-table .ui-tb, which gave every column equal
width and left the title column at 1/6 of a 1440 card.

Walkthrough

The card stylesheet changes the .ui-rec grid column sizing and removes the fixed table-layout rule from .ui-table .ui-tb.

Some narrow cards may present poorly for long labels, and future layout regressions are not guarded; both fixes are localized.

UX-GATE: PASS @ 61cc4af

Rendered in-app at 1440 and 390, DPR 2. Main control was 8ac7e8d (the merge-base). Fixtures: a 12-row × 5-column Linear card (ID / Title / State / Assignee / Updated) and a 3 × 3 GitHub card. Page errors: 0 in all four runs.

K4, records at 390, fixed:

  • Label column: 0 px → 53 px (grid 0px 302px → 52.8px 249.2px). Labels no longer stack one letter per line.
  • Linear card: 5,408 → 1,948 px tall. First record: 458 → 146 px.
  • Tallest label: 128 → 40 px, and 40 only because Title's value wraps.
  • No horizontal overflow: card 362/362, pane 390/390.
  • GitHub card: labels 15 → 33 px, record 138 → 102 px.

K4b, table at 1440, fixed:

  • Columns were 106 px each. Now ID 57 / Title 288 / State 69 / Assignee 60 / Updated 55.
  • Rows: 73–109 → 37–55 px. Linear card: 1,223 → 669 px.
  • GitHub card columns: 176 × 3 → 80 / 378 / 70.
  • No horizontal overflow: tw 528/528.

Not blocking, for a follow-up:

  • At 1440 the narrow columns still break mid-word, because td keeps overflow-wrap:anywhere: "In progres/s", "Assign/ee", "Updat/ed", "LIN-/412".
  • Measured with white-space:nowrap; overflow-wrap:normal injected on th and on the non-title td: every row is 37 px, Title stays 233 px, the card drops 669 → 629 px, and nothing overflows.
  • Positional :nth-child(2) is the wrong selector for a real fix. Mark the title column, or take it with K5 (a 720 px card for 4+ columns).

Evidence: main and head screenshots at 1440 and 390, plus the probe, are posted in the Sharpen pod.

Keep a usable value track for long record labels.

TableView renders each label in the first <dt> track. The inherited overflow-wrap:anywhere rule can wrap the label, so label overflow is not the main issue. However, minmax(0,max-content) can still consume the row width and leave the minmax(0,1fr) value track with no usable space. Bound the first track to an explicit maximum. Add a long-label regression case. Adding another wrapping rule alone does not reserve value space while the first track remains max-content.

Update the grid columns in `.v2-ui-card .ui-rec` to cap the first, label track
at an explicit maximum so long labels cannot consume the row width and leave the
value track unusable. Add a `TableView` regression case with a long label that
verifies the value track retains usable space.

Add separate invariants for the changed record and table rules.

The .ui-rec assertion matches the raw CSS loaded by the test. The table change needs an absence assertion because the PR removes table-layout:fixed; it is not a presence assertion.

Long-label or record-placement coverage would be a separate behavioral test. It is not part of these declaration invariants.

🧪 Suggested test assertions
   expect(css).toContain('.ui-table--records .ui-recs { display:grid; }');
+  expect(css).toContain('.v2-ui-card .ui-rec{display:grid;grid-template-columns:minmax(0,max-content) minmax(0,1fr);');
+  expect(css).not.toContain('.v2-ui-card .ui-table .ui-tb { table-layout:fixed; }');

Update the CSS declaration invariants for `.v2-ui-card .ui-rec` to assert its
grid declaration is present, and assert that `.v2-ui-card .ui-table .ui-tb` no
longer has `table-layout:fixed`; keep these as separate assertions and do not
add behavioral coverage.
