Settings > Connected apps mounts `AppsManagement` (custom app create, edit, delete, use). Those paths are not all walked on prod, so the "Developer apps" disclosure is now gated on `REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS=true`, default off. The Connectors link stays. The component is kept, so setting the flag restores it.

Row: TASK-674 (D215-1). Tier 1, one code gate. Walk evidence: not produced in this change. Unless all four paths are walked live, the section stays hidden. The walk is a follow-up for Launch.

Tests: V2SettingsPage.test.tsx and v2-layout-invariants.test.ts, 291/291 passing.

Walkthrough

The Vite build defines REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS. The settings page renders the Developer apps disclosure only when the flag equals 'true'. Tests check the default state and the effect of other flag values.

Changes: Settings visibility

Layer / File(s) Summary

Vite defines REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS from the build environment, or as an empty string when unset. The settings page renders the Developer apps disclosure and AppsManagement only when the flag equals 'true'. Tests check that connected-app controls and the Developer apps label are absent by default, and that the disclosure appears only when the flag equals 'true'.

Wire the flag through the frontend build.

The dev and staging Docker builds do not pass REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS, and frontend/Dockerfile does not declare or export it. These deployed bundles therefore cannot enable DEVELOPER_APPS_ENABLED through the documented flag. Add the build argument and environment export, with false as the default.

As per path instructions, this is a broken build-time configuration contract.

Cover the enabled Developer apps branch.

The current test covers only the default-off state. Add a module-isolated test that sets process.env.REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS = 'true' before loading V2SettingsPage, then asserts that Developer apps and the mocked AppsManagement control render with the expected props. Keep the default-off assertion. Without the enabled test, a future change can hide the enabled branch without failing the suite.

The bare `process.env: {}` define erases every process.env read that is not
listed, so the developer-apps flag would always be undefined in a built
bundle and could never turn the section back on. Pass it through explicitly,
empty by default, so CI and deploy leave it off.

Cover both Developer apps flag states.

V2SettingsPage reads the flag at module load time. Load it after setting each environment value, isolate the module between cases, and restore the environment afterward. Assert that Developer apps and the mocked AppsManagement render when the value is 'true'. Also explicitly clear the value for the hidden-state test so the result does not depend on the inherited test environment.

Gate on TASK-674 at d05ca60 (Tier 1, frontend only).

Three checks:

  1. The section is hidden unless the flag is exactly 'true'. DEVELOPER_APPS_ENABLED = process.env.REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS === 'true' gates the JSX {DEVELOPER_APPS_ENABLED && (<details>…<AppsManagement/></details>)}. Unset, empty, 'false' and 'TRUE' all evaluate to false, and the details and AppsManagement are not rendered at all, not just collapsed. The Connectors row is untouched.

  2. The flag reaches the bundle. vite.config.ts adds 'process.env.REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS': JSON.stringify(process.env.REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS || '') above 'process.env': {}. Setting it to true at build time turns the section on. Unset becomes "", so it stays off. The specific key sits above the broad process.env key, and the same shape already ships for REACT_APP_SENTRY_DSN in that file.

  3. Nothing else in Settings moved. The diff wraps one <details> block in the constant and changes nothing else in the component. The test edits only drop assertions about the hidden section and keep the Connectors link assertion.

Non-blocking: the test covers only the unset case. Nothing asserts that the section renders when the flag is 'true', so a regression on the positive path would pass CI. A single test with the flag set would close that.

Caveat: I read the diff and the surrounding config. I did not build the frontend or run its test suite.

GATE: PASS

Read REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS at render time so the test can flip it.
Shows the section only for exactly 'true'; any other value keeps it hidden.

Re-gate on TASK-674 at 8a2705a (Tier 1, frontend only). It replaces my PASS at d05ca60, which had one non-blocking note: no test covered the flag-on case.

The delta since d05ca60 has three parts:

  • The flag is now read at render time through developerAppsEnabled(), not captured once at module load. The JSX still gates the details and AppsManagement behind it, so an unset, empty, 'false' or 'TRUE' value hides the section.
  • The new test sets process.env.REACT_APP_DEVELOPER_APPS to 'yes' and expects the section hidden, then to 'true' and expects it shown. It restores the previous value in a finally, so it doesn't leak into other tests.
  • The vite.config.ts define is unchanged from d05ca60. It still sits above 'process.env': {}, and the render-time read still reaches the build as the replaced literal.

Both of my earlier checks still hold: the section renders only for exactly 'true', and nothing else in Settings moved. The earlier nit is closed by the new flag-on test.

Caveat: I read the diff and the test. I did not run the frontend suite, so the 292/292 figure is Rivet's, not mine.

Add coverage for the Vite build-time flag injection.

The settings test changes Jest's runtime process.env, not Vite's build-time replacement. Add a config or build test for the unset and exactly-true values so a removed or incorrect Vite definition cannot leave the test green while the built application keeps Developer apps hidden.
