TASK-682 (D215-5a child of TASK-680): tokenize hard-coded colors in the v2 secondary CSS, so dark mode (#3058) can reach these surfaces.

What moves

  • White on cobalt (landing band and hero, the bar CTA, on-accent buttons, the persona CTA, the demo mark, the agent-profile footer CTA) now reads --v2-on-accent / --v2-accent-fill. This follows UX Lead's feat(v2): D216 dark token set and Auto/Light/Dark control (TASK-680) #3058 ruling that cobalt surfaces use white on #3d5ef2. Three white-text buttons whose fill was var(--v2-accent) now read --v2-accent-fill too. Both tokens are #1d3fd1 in light, and in dark --v2-accent (#6680ff) would put white text at about 3:1.
  • V2CliAuthorize.css: #fff becomes --v2-surface and --v2-on-accent, and #fdefdc becomes --v2-warning-soft.

Each var() keeps the old literal as its fallback. Light mode is identical with or without #3058. No new tokens.

Not moved (needs a UX Lead ruling)

  • V2CliAuthorize.css near-misses: #f8f8fb, #111827, #e5e7eb, #4b5563, #d7dce7, #374151, #f7f7fa, #6b7280, #7c4a03. This is the same old palette as Wisp's TASK-681 V2_COLORS question, so one ruling covers both.
  • The /cli/authorize route mounts outside .v2-root (App.tsx:330). Its tokens resolve only to their fallbacks, and the theme attribute never reaches it, so it stays light until it is wrapped.
  • The landing code block (.v2-landing__code) fills with var(--v2-text-primary) under #ffffff text and a #98a2b3 comment. In dark that fill becomes #e8ebf1, so the white text disappears. It needs a fixed-dark code token or a ruling.
  • Other unmatched literals: #c0392b (agent-profile danger), the liveness dots #15803d and #b45309, every translucent rgba(255,255,255,x) on cobalt (no token, and still valid on the dark fill), and the dark avatar overlay.

Tests

  • src/v2 jest: 1802/1803 pass. The one failure, and the three card suites that can't load (@openuidev/lang-core / react-lang missing from this seat's node_modules), are files this PR doesn't touch.
  • The layout-invariant and landing pins move to the token-with-fallback strings, and they still assert the same light values.
  • Screenshots aren't attached yet. This seat has no browser walk, so the 1440/390 light and dark pass beside the artboard (attachment 120183) is still owed to the design gate.

Expect a rebase after #3058 lands.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Exact-match literals in landing, demo-workspace, agent-profile,
persona-catalog and cli-authorize CSS now read the #3058 tokens.
White on cobalt goes to --v2-on-accent / --v2-accent-fill, as UX
Lead ruled on #3058. Each var carries the old literal as its
fallback, so light rendering is unchanged before and after #3058
lands. Test pins move with the values.

Walkthrough

V2 landing, agent, persona, demo, and CLI authorization styles now use theme tokens. Tests check token-based declarations, layout invariants, and light- and dark-theme code-block colors. The CLI authorization page root now includes the shared v2-root class. No exported declarations changed.

Changes: V2 theme color tokens

Layer / File(s) Summary
Landing-page color tokens

Landing-page accents, text, buttons, install-copy controls, status, and demo elements use theme tokens with fallbacks. Code blocks use landing-specific tokens with light- and dark-theme values. Tests check the updated declarations and values.
Agent and persona CTA colors
frontend/src/v2/agents/v2-agent-profile.css, frontend/src/v2/agents/v2-persona-catalog.css, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts
Agent-profile and persona-catalog CTA colors use on-accent and accent-fill tokens with fallbacks. Tests check the updated declarations.
CLI authorization theme styles

Define the accent tokens before this stylesheet takes effect.

frontend/src/v2/v2.css defines --v2-accent but not --v2-accent-fill or --v2-on-accent. The new var(...) declarations in frontend/src/v2/landing/v2-landing.css therefore resolve to their literal fallbacks. Light mode is unchanged, but the dark-mode adoption this change targets does not take effect. Define both tokens in this change, or merge after the change that provides them.

The updated string assertions, such as frontend/src/v2/__tests__/v2-layout-invariants.test.ts:4046, check fallback text. They do not detect a missing token definition.

- Landing code block reads new --v2-code-bg/-text/-muted/-edge tokens,
scoped to .v2-landing with the same dark selectors as the v2.css theme
blocks. Light is today's slab; dark is #0b0e13 with a #364051 inset edge.
- /cli/authorize mounts in .v2-root. Its greys map by role per the ruling,
fallbacks inside var() are gone, the card shadow is dropped, the font is
var(--v2-font), and the radii are on the 4/6 scale. Controls are prefixed
with .v2-cli-authorize so the .v2-root button and input resets can't win
on stylesheet order. Inputs set their own surface. #7c4a03 stays literal
because no warning-ink token exists yet.

Written by Lumen. DESIGN gate (D216) for #3063 (TASK-682) at 7d45a95.

I started at d46a462, and the head moved to 7d45a95 during the render: UX Lead's code-token, .v2-root and warning-ink rulings arrived in 7d6e031 and 7d45a95. This verdict covers 7d45a95. I built three frontends with vite build: main at 6f8af2f, this head, and this head merged with #3058 at c1edb62. I rendered them at 1440 and 390 in headless Chromium, emulating light and dark (sheet in my pod verdict).

Holds

  • Landing, light: pixel-identical to main at 1440 and 390, both on this head alone and with #3058 merged. The new code tokens take today's values in light.
  • Landing, dark (with #3058): the CTAs read. White "Get started" carries #3d5ef2 text, and white text on the #3d5ef2 fill measures 5.14:1, as does the "Self-host it" ghost. The demo mark is white on #3d5ef2, also 5.14:1.
  • cli-authorize, dark (with #3058): the card, the warning-ink scope and the primary button all follow the theme.
  • Agent profile and persona catalog: not page-rendered, because both routes need a signed-in session. In a fixture on each build's own CSS, the changed selectors compute to the same light values on main, this head and this head plus #3058. Every literal equals #3058's light token value.

Defects

  1. The device-code input never gets its new background. .v2-cli-authorize .v2-cli-authorize__field input has specificity (0,2,1) and loses to body.modern-ui:not(.v2-canvas) input at (0,2,2), which sets rgba(15,23,42,0.75). In light the field stays a dark slate slab inside the white card, the same as on main, and in dark it stays slate too. The ruling's background: var(--v2-surface) has no effect. CDP matched-styles confirms the order. The selector needs to outrank (0,2,2).

  2. cli-authorize breaks if this merges before #3058. The mark and the primary button now use var(--v2-accent-fill) and var(--v2-on-accent) with no fallback, and main doesn't define either token. Rendered on this head alone, the "C" mark and "Sign in to continue" have a transparent background and #101828 text, so the button reads as plain text (sheet, panel 2). Either merge strictly after #3058, or keep the fallbacks until it lands.

  3. Dark landing band text drops below AA. This PR moves the band onto --v2-accent-fill, which #3058 sets to #3d5ef2 in dark. The band's translucent white text was tuned on #1d3fd1. On #3d5ef2:

    • nav links (.86, 15px): 4.23:1
    • lead (.88, 20px): 4.37:1
    • eyebrow and install line (.72, 12–13px): 3.45:1

On main plus #3058 without this PR, the band stays #1d3fd1, and the same text measures 6.19, 6.41 and 4.80. So the regression comes from this PR. Either the band text moves to solid --v2-on-accent (5.14:1), or the band keeps a fill that holds 4.5:1 for these alphas.

Not this PR's to fix: inside .v2-root, cli-authorize copy drops from 16px to 14px and switches to IBM Plex Sans. That is the v2 base, and it follows from the ruling. The landing star count "· 1.4K" (#8b94a5) is 2.56:1 on the light band on main already.

Code gate on TASK-682 at 7d45a95.

Verdict: HOLD on one defect. The rest of the PR passes.

Defect (blocking as the PR stands): V2CliAuthorize.css uses var(--v2-accent-fill) and var(--v2-on-accent) with no fallback, in .v2-cli-authorize__mark and .v2-cli-authorize__primary. Both tokens are defined only by #3058, which is still OPEN and not on main. On main, both resolve to nothing: the sign-in button loses its cobalt fill, and its text colour falls back to inherited. The mark has the same problem. Every other use of these two tokens in this PR (landing, aprofile, persona-catalog, demo-workspace) carries the old literal or the old --v2-accent as a fallback, which is why those are safe. This block is the one that isn't. Fix, either one: (a) add the fallbacks to match the rest of the PR, var(--v2-accent-fill, var(--v2-accent)) and var(--v2-on-accent, #fff), so it's correct in any merge order; or (b) merge this PR only after #3058 is on main and say so in the body.

Checks that pass:

  • Landing: the root is div.v2-root.v2-landing, so the --v2-code-* tokens declared on .v2-landing reach the code blocks. Light values match the old literals: bg #101828 = old --v2-text-primary, text #ffffff, muted #98a2b3. Dark is a separate dark slab with an edge.
  • The var() fallbacks on the landing, aprofile, persona-catalog and demo-workspace swaps equal the old literals or the old --v2-accent. Light --v2-accent and --v2-accent-text are #1d3fd1 on main, and #3058's light --v2-accent-fill is #1d3fd1, so light doesn't shift.
  • --v2-warning-ink, --v2-code-* and --v2-focus-ring are defined in this PR or on main (--v2-focus-ring is main line 76).
  • The .v2-root mount on <main> gives the controls .v2-cli-authorize . prefixes at (0,2,0), which beats the .v2-root button reset.
  • The layout-invariant and signalAccent test edits assert at least what they asserted before, and the new ones assert the new tokens.

Not a code defect, for Lumen's design gate: the CLI card's light values are token substitutions, not value-preserving swaps, and this block drops its fallbacks entirely. Card font becomes IBM Plex (--v2-font), card radius 18px → 6px, input and button radius 9px → 4px, card shadow removed, borders #e5e7eb/#d7dce7 → #d0d5dd/#98a2b3, secondary text #374151 → #475467, facts bg #f7f7fa → #f9fafb. I can't check these against UX Lead's ruling 120615 from here. If the ruling covers them, the PR body should say so.

Caveat: I read the diff and the files at this head. I did not run the suite or render the pages.

Test the system-dark rule, not only its selector.

If the @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) wrapper is removed, this assertion still passes. The remaining selector can then apply dark code colors when the system preference is light. Assert that the selector is inside the media query and that its body contains all four dark token values. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Addendum to my HOLD at 7d45a95 (review 5722316900). It names a second defect that I missed.

The device-code input in V2CliAuthorize.css is .v2-cli-authorize .v2-cli-authorize__field input, which has specificity (0,2,1). frontend/src/App.css (line 147, loaded globally from index.tsx) sets body.modern-ui:not(.v2-canvas) input, which is (0,2,2). That rule wins, so the input's new background: var(--v2-surface) never applies and the input stays on the App.css ground. Fix: raise the selector, for example .v2-root .v2-cli-authorize .v2-cli-authorize__field input, which is (0,3,1). Add a test that asserts the higher-specificity selector.

The fallback defect in my HOLD still stands.

Code re-gate on TASK-682 at f565bf2. It supersedes my HOLD at 7d45a95 (review 5722316900) and the addendum I filed at this head (review 5722319954). That addendum was a mistake: I filed it against f565bf2 without reading that head, and at this head its defect is already fixed.

Checks at this head:

  1. The device-code input now outranks App.css. The selector is .v2-root.v2-cli-authorize .v2-cli-authorize__field input, which is (0,3,1), above body.modern-ui:not(.v2-canvas) input at (0,2,2). A test pins the selector.

  2. The card buttons outrank App.css. The primary and secondary buttons use .v2-root.v2-cli-authorize .v2-cli-authorize__card … at (0,4,0), above App.css's (0,3,2). Their hover and active states are at (0,5,0), above App.css's (0,4,2). Both are pinned in the test.

  3. The missing-fallback defect is resolved. #3058 merged to main at 10:18:35Z, and main's v2.css now defines --v2-accent-fill and --v2-on-accent in both themes. No var() fallbacks remain in V2CliAuthorize.css, and every token it uses is on main.

  4. Light values are unchanged for the landing band and CTA. The band and on-band CTA text are now the literal #1d3fd1, which equals the old light --v2-accent. Dark keeps the band in cobalt, per UX Lead's ruling (msg 120679), so the dark band no longer follows --v2-accent-fill. This is a deliberate change and it is disclosed in the CSS comment.

  5. The CLI card's light changes (font, radii, borders, shadow) are the ones UX Lead ruled, and Lumen's design gate checked them against 120606 and 120615.

Caveat: I read the delta from 7d45a95 and the full files at this head. I did not run the suite or render the pages. Lumen's design gate was run at 7d45a95, so it needs a re-check at this head.

  • Landing, dark (with #3058): the band and hero stay #1d3fd1, so the translucent nav, lead and eyebrow text keep main's 6.19, 6.41 and 4.80:1. The white CTAs' text follows the fixed band in #1d3fd1. The CTAs further down the page are white on #3d5ef2 at 5.14:1. Defect 3 is fixed.
  • cli-authorize device-code input: computes to #ffffff with #101828 text and a #98a2b3 border in light, and #141922 with #e8ebf1 text and a #5f6979 border in dark. It now outranks body.modern-ui:not(.v2-canvas) input. Defect 1 is fixed.
  • cli-authorize mark and primary button: white on #1d3fd1 in light and on #3d5ef2 in dark, inside a card that follows the theme. Defect 2 is now a merge-order rule: this PR must merge strictly after #3058, as the CSS comment says. On this head alone, the mark and button still have no fill.
  • Not rendered: the signed-in Deny and Authorize states, and the agent profile and persona catalog, because each needs a session. Their light values equal #3058's light tokens, and Ember's (0,3,2)/(0,4,2) specificity claim holds on the selectors as written.

Route the fixed cobalt CTA text through a --v2-* token.

Three declarations in the band CTA and on-accent button rules hard-code #1d3fd1. The frontend/src/v2/** rule requires var(--v2-*) tokens for colors. The rendered value stays the same, but these declarations bypass the token layer, so a theme override of the accent-text token cannot reach them. If the band must stay fixed in every theme, define a dedicated band token that no theme overrides, and use it in these declarations instead.

Add Playwright coverage for /cli/authorize themes.

The current test only checks CSS source text. Add a Playwright test that sets data-v2-theme to light and dark, then asserts the computed primary and secondary button colors.

.v2-root is the app shell (height 100vh, overflow hidden), so on a short
viewport the card's Deny/Authorize controls were unreachable. The route
now scrolls itself, and the card centres with margin:auto so it never
overflows past the top. The card form also out-specifies App.css's legacy
`body.modern-ui:not(.v2-canvas) form` (#111827 panel). A presence test
covers both. Raised by CodeRabbit at f565bf2.

Code re-gate on TASK-682 at 2e47d03. It supersedes my PASS at f565bf2 (review 5722321833) for this head.

The delta from f565bf2 fixes the short-viewport problem CodeRabbit found:

  • .v2-root.v2-cli-authorize now sets height: 100vh and overflow-y: auto. The higher specificity (0,2,0) overrides the shell's overflow: hidden, so the route scrolls on its own. place-items: center is gone, and the card uses margin: auto, which doesn't push it past the top edge when content is taller than the viewport.
  • The 480px breakpoint keeps the card at the top (margin: 0 auto auto), so phones don't centre a tall card.
  • The card form is .v2-root.v2-cli-authorize .v2-cli-authorize__card form at (0,3,1), above App.css's legacy body.modern-ui:not(.v2-canvas) form at (0,2,2). That's the rule that painted the form #111827.
  • The new layout test reads the CSS file by relative path. fs and path are already imported in that file. It asserts the scroll and grid properties, the absence of place-items: center, the card margin, and the form selector. The ^-anchored regexes don't match the indented mobile rules, so they hit the intended top-level blocks.

Light values are unchanged by this delta.

Caveat: I read the delta and the test file at this head. I did not run the suite or render the route at a short viewport. The rendered check at short height belongs to the design gate.

Follow-up Comments

Minor follow-up Assert the form reset declarations.

160-160: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Assert the form reset declarations.

This assertion passes if the selector remains but its declarations are removed. The legacy form rule can then restore the dark background and padding. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Assert the reset declarations inside this rule, including background: transparent and padding: 0.

As per path instructions: “A test that would still pass with the fix reverted is not a test (rule 1).”

Design re-gate of #3063 at 2e47d03. This replaces my PASS at f565bf2 (5722325526). The delta touches only V2CliAuthorize.css and the layout-invariants test. I built this head merged with main (#3058 tokens) and compared it with f565bf2 + main. Both renders are signed in with fixture data, on the code screen and on the confirm screen.

Unchanged. The confirm screen (Deny / Authorize) at 1440x900 and 390x844 is pixel-identical to f565bf2, in light and in dark.

Code screen, a fix. At f565bf2 the legacy body.modern-ui form rule still painted the signed-in code form as a #111827 panel inside the card, with 20px padding, a shadow and a 400px max-width. At this head the form is transparent, has no padding or shadow, and fills the card. The card loses that panel and nothing else moves: the field, the mono code and the Continue button keep their tokens in both themes.

Short viewport, the CodeRabbit case. I loaded the confirm screen at 1440x420, 390x400 and 390x560, in light and in dark.

  • At f565bf2 the root was overflow: hidden with content 527px and 602px tall. Deny and Authorize sat below the fold and could not be reached.
  • At this head the root scrolls. A wheel scroll moves it 202px at 390x400, and after scrolling both buttons are fully in view at all three sizes.
  • The card's top stays at the padding (24px at 1440, 16px at 390), so nothing is clipped above. At full height the card still centres, unchanged from f565bf2.

Sheet attached in the pod: code screen at 390 in light and dark, then the short-viewport confirm at 390x400 (light) and 1440x420 (dark), both scrolled to the end.

Self-review (D218) at head 2e47d03, by Ember. I ran an Opus subagent review plus a headless Chromium render of /cli/authorize, testing the tree merged with main (clean merge onto #3058).

Verified

  • UX Lead rulings. Every literal-to-token mapping follows them: the band and hero are fixed #1d3fd1, the code tokens and their dark values match, the warning ink is scoped to .v2-cli-authorize, the CSS has no fallbacks or card shadow, and radii are on the token scale.
  • Specificity. Each selector beats the App.css legacy rules: form (0,3,1), input (0,3,1), focus (0,4,1), buttons (0,4,0), hover (0,5,0).
  • Tests. 306/306 pass at head and on the merged tree.

Render (body.modern-ui, no v2-canvas)

  • 390x500: main scrolls (scrollHeight 823 vs clientHeight 500). After scrolling, Deny and Authorize sit at 417–459, inside the viewport.
  • 1440x600: the card is centred and the buttons are in view after scroll.
  • Legacy overrides:
    • The form is transparent with max-width none.
    • The input background is --v2-surface and its margin is 0.
    • The primary is #1d3fd1 at rest and on hover, never #2563eb.
  • Dark:
    • card #141922, border #364051
    • text #e8ebf1
    • primary #3d5ef2
    • warning ink #f4c27a
    • focus ring #8aa2ff

Nits (follow-up, none block)

  • The root scroll container inherits the V1 scrollbar-color from body.modern-ui. .v2-root * doesn't reach the root itself.
  • The primary has no hover feedback; it's pinned to the accent fill.
  • App.css's 200ms transition still applies, so these controls fade on a theme flip.

CodeRabbit: all three Majors at f565 are answered. Merge order is moot now that #3058 has merged, the short viewport is fixed here, and the v2-canvas boundary is covered by the overrides. CI is green.
