feat(byo): the page names the Terminal command when only the MCP snippet was copied (TASK-721) - #3123
TASK-721, page half. On the Bring your own page, once someone has waited three minutes for the first check-in, copied the MCP snippet, and not copied the Terminal listener command, the waiting line names the command they missed:
You copied the MCP snippet, but not the Terminal command that starts {{name}}. The snippet lets a tool call Commonly; only the Terminal command lets {{name}} answer mentions. Copy it above and run it in Terminal on your computer.
Evidence: the 10-31 stranger walk (webhook agent created, MCP snippet copied three times, listener never copied, token never used).
How
copiedKinds ({ mcp, listen }) is tracked per issue, set by the Copy buttons and by a manual select-and-copy on each command block. It resets when a new token is issued.
A three-minute timer per issue flips missedWindowOver. Copying the listener command, or copying nothing, keeps today's waiting line. The timeout line is unchanged for everyone else.
en and zh-CN strings added. Text only in an existing note, no layout or CSS change.
Tests
V2AgentBYOListenVerify.test.tsx: MCP-only names the command after three minutes and not at two; listener also copied keeps the plain line; nothing copied keeps the plain line. Mutation-checked (dropping the copy conditions fails two of the three). All 462 BYO and layout-invariant tests pass.
humanized 2026-11-01. Known: npm run lint shows two i18next/no-literal-string errors at V2AgentBYO.tsx:1163 that predate this change.
…pet was copied (TASK-721)
After three minutes waiting on a check-in, if the person copied the MCP snippet
but not the listener command, the waiting line says so and points at the
Terminal command above. Tracks copies per kind for the current issue, via the
copy button or a manual select-and-copy.

Walkthrough
The BYO setup page tracks whether the user copied an MCP command or the listener command. After three minutes, it identifies the missed listener command if the user copied an MCP command but not the listener command. English and Chinese translations provide the notice.
The page resets copy state for each issued token, starts a three-minute timer, and records copies made through buttons or manual selection.
Show and validate the notice frontend/src/v2/components/V2AgentBYO.tsx, frontend/src/i18n/locales/en.json, frontend/src/i18n/locales/zh-CN.json, frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2AgentBYOListenVerify.test.tsx
The waiting message identifies the listener command when the MCP command was copied but the listener command was not. English and Chinese translations and timer tests cover this behavior.
Team-Commonly/commonly#3118: Implements the same missed-listener-command rule on the server-side stalled-connect nudge, using server-side copy tracking.
Merge Risk: Low · previous review b9196
The change is low-risk overall, but partial copies can suppress guidance, assistive-technology users may not hear the timed notice, and token-reset behavior remains untested.

Review follow-ups: the en and zh-CN line now names the command by its last line
and says the page will confirm it, and a test drives the Copy buttons (not only a
manual copy), mutation-checked.

Writer review (Opus subagent, read-only) of #3123, the page half of TASK-721. It ran at 1ee78d2 and found no blockers; the follow-ups were applied at this head.
Traced: every copy path (token, daemon-setup, Cursor, Windows variant, Codex, hosted and machine flows, the replace-key re-issue) against the new per-kind copy record. None shows the line when it is false. The message only appears where the listener command box sits directly above it, and the single timer is cleaned up and re-armed per issue.
Applied from the review: the line now names the command by its last line ("commonly agent run NAME") and ends with "this page will confirm it", in en and zh-CN; a test drives the Copy buttons, not only a manual copy, and fails if the button-to-kind mapping is removed. All 7 listen-verify tests pass, plus 462 BYO and layout-invariant tests and the i18n key tests.
Not covered: the reset when a second token is issued has no test (the replace-key flow needs a heavy harness). The effect that does it is small and the review traced it. The clock starts at issue, not at the MCP copy, as the row describes. No layout or CSS changed, so no browser render; the two lint errors at V2AgentBYO.tsx:1163 predate this PR.

Do not treat every partial selection as a listener-command copy.

Do not treat every partial selection as a listener-command copy.
If a user copies only the npm i -g line, this sets listen to true. The missed-command notice is then suppressed even though the user did not copy the command that starts the agent. Check the selected content before marking the listener command as copied. (developer.mozilla.org)

Review comment at @frontend/src/v2/components/V2AgentBYO.tsx at line 1711:
Update the `onCopy` handler in `V2AgentBYO` to inspect the selected content and
call `markCopiedKind('listen')` only when the copied text includes the command
that starts the agent; copying only the `npm i -g` line must not mark the
listener command as copied.
Announce the timed notice to screen readers.

Announce the timed notice to screen readers.
The notice changes after three minutes without moving focus. Its containing paragraph has no live-region role, so screen readers are not notified. Give the waiting-status container role="status" or an equivalent live-region property. (w3.org)

Test the copy buttons and new-token reset.

Test the copy buttons and new-token reset.
These tests dispatch copy events directly. They still pass if the new tracking in the Copy buttons is removed. Add tests for both buttons and for issuing a new token after a copy.
As per coding guidelines, “New code path ≠ test: flag it.” As per path instructions, “A test that would still pass with the fix reverted is not a test.”

Update the tests around copyBlock to click and verify both Copy buttons,
asserting the copy-tracking behavior. Also test issuing a new token after a copy
and verify the reset behavior, so the tests fail if either path is removed.

Identify the listener command by its last line.

Identify the listener command by its last line.
The generated command starts with commonly agent run {{name}}, then adds --adapter and may add --allow. It does not end with commonly agent run {{name}}. Update both translations and the three-minute test assertion.

Review comment at @frontend/src/i18n/locales/en.json at line 1740:
Update the missedCommand translations in English and Chinese to describe the
generated command’s last line as starting with “commonly agent run {{name}},”
rather than saying the command ends with it; update the three-minute test
assertion to expect the revised English wording.

Browser check at 0f09d13 (headless Playwright against the branch's Vite dev server on :3223, API mocked: one pod, one agent sam-claude, /api/users/me/agent-connection answering not connected; clock faked, MCP snippet Copy clicked, then 3 min 1 s fast-forwarded). A mocked render covers layout only; the live data goes in the post-deploy walk.
Nudge state, English and zh-CN, 1440 and 390, light and dark (8 renders). documentElement.scrollWidth == clientWidth in all 8, so no horizontal scroll.
en, 1440: the line wraps to 4 lines in the 690px column, with one orphan word ("it.") on the last line.
zh-CN, 1440: 3 lines. The longest string, and it fits without clipping. Wording follows the glossary: 你, @提及.
zh-CN, 390: 6 lines, no overflow; the inline command name sam-claude wraps at the hyphen, readable.
Dark: same layout, text contrast unchanged from the neighbouring notes.
Two things the shots show, neither changed in this PR:
The nudge is plain body text in the same style as the notes around it, so on a full page it does not stand out as the thing to do.
The very next note on the page, "MCP alone won't wake sam-claude for @mentions. Keep this Terminal open.", says nearly the same thing in the nudge state. Only one of the two is needed there.
Shots are in the pod thread; GitHub has no image upload from the CLI. Say if you want 1 or 2 changed before the press.
