feat(byo): record setup OS, listener eligibility and per-type copy marks (TASK-714) - #3138
Growth and CTO found a first BYO copy that was MCP, with no record of whether the page had offered a listener at all. The onboarding record had no OS field, and the copy mark was written once, so only the first copy's type survived.
What
The result page sends setupOs and listenerAvailable with every BYO step, and the server writes both once per person (onboarding.byoSetupOs, onboarding.byoListenerEligible). Booleans and the fixed OS enum only.
Each copy sends a fixed copyType (listen, mcp-claude, mcp-cursor, daemon, token). Each type gets its own $exists:false mark, so a later listen copy after MCP leaves a trace.
The existing first-copy marks (byoCommandCopiedAt, byoCommandType, byoMcpCopiedAt, byoCliCopiedAt) are unchanged, so Growth's current reads still hold.
The seat-created step also carries the setup, so the result page's own view is recorded when it renders.
Tests
backend/__tests__/unit/services/onboardingMarks.test.js: per-type marks write once; unknown types refused; setup written once; malformed setup writes nothing.
backend/__tests__/unit/routes/stats.byo-step.test.js: copy steps pass the copy type; non-copy steps never do; the event row is unchanged.
frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2AgentBYOCopyTelemetry.test.tsx: the Mac and Windows result pages record their setup, and a Mac daemon copy sends its copy type.
frontend/src/v2/__tests__/V2AgentBYOHostedOffer.test.tsx: two exact-body assertions updated for the added fields.
Local: onboardingMarks + stats.byo-step 64/64; BYO frontend suites 474/474; tsc --noEmit clean. The changed files add no new lint findings.
Not in this PR
Growth's confirmation on a real opener is still owed.
The Windows listener case is covered by the result-page test, not a live walk.
…rks (TASK-714)
The BYO result page now sends the OS it set up for and whether the listener
could run there, with each step. The server writes both once per person.
Each copy also carries a fixed copy type (listen, mcp-claude, mcp-cursor,
daemon, token), and each type gets its own write-once mark, so a later
listen copy after an MCP copy leaves a trace. The existing first-copy marks
are unchanged.

BYO telemetry now includes setup OS, listener availability, and copy type. The backend validates this context and records write-once onboarding marks for setup details and individual copied commands.
Telemetry requests can include setup context. BYO step and seat-created events include OS and listener availability. Copy events identify the copied content type. Tests check the emitted setup and copy metadata, and verify that command text and the agent token are not sent.
Store onboarding marks backend/models/User.ts, backend/services/onboardingMarks.ts, backend/__tests__/unit/services/onboardingMarks.test.js
The onboarding schema adds setup details and per-copy timestamps. Service functions validate inputs and record write-once marks. Tests cover valid inputs, invalid inputs, and repeated copies.
Route telemetry to onboarding marks backend/routes/stats.ts, backend/__tests__/unit/routes/stats.byo-step.test.js
The route accepts copy types only when they match the step, and passes setup values to the setup mark function. Tests check matching and mismatched types and verify that copy type is excluded from the event row.

A token-copied step carrying copyType "listen" would have written the listen
mark. Each copy step now accepts only the copy types it can carry.

Record copy types for manual copies.
The button path records typed telemetry only after navigator.clipboard.writeText succeeds. Manual copies from the listen, Claude, Cursor, and token containers call only copiedIssuedContent, so they omit the typed step and per-type mark. Add the matching step and copyType to each onCopy handler. The daemon block is also manually copyable but has no onCopy handler, so add the daemon telemetry handler there as well.

Send setup fields only after the seat is issued.

Send setup fields only after the seat is issued.
The "Add a computer" daemon block renders before a seat exists. Its copy calls byoStep, which attaches the current setupOs and listenerAvailable. The /byo-step route passes these values to markByoSetup on every valid step, and the server keeps the first valid write. A later seat-created step with a different OS is then ignored.
Filtering by step name in backend/routes/stats.ts cannot fix this. The start form and the result page both send daemon-command-copied, so the server cannot tell them apart. Gate the setup fields on issued in the client. Also widen the recordByoStep context type, because ByoSetupContext requires both setup fields and the gated object would not type-check without this change. The per-type copyType still reaches the server.

Add a real-model round trip for the BYO setup and copy fields.
The mocked User.updateOne assertions show which update is issued. They do not show that the values persist and reload through Mongoose. No test under backend/__tests__ reads the new fields back from a MongoMemoryServer-backed User. The existing real-model suite, onboardingMarks.db.test.js, covers only inviteCardShownAt, inviteCardDismissedAt, byoOfferShownAt, and the bot exclusion. A schema regression on these fields would pass the current suite.
Add a case to onboardingMarks.db.test.js that calls markByoSetup and reloads the User. Add one case for a copy type, checking its timestamp. The review checklist (rule 24) requires a round trip through the real model for fields read across layers.

Checked at this head (2 commits by Lily Shen, merge state CLEAN, CI green):
Browser step (stats.ts): copy type is accepted only when it matches its step (COPY_TYPES_BY_STEP), so token-copied cannot write the listen mark. Test covers mismatched types.
Setup mark (markByoSetup): write-once in the filter, validates setupOs and listenerAvailable, writes nothing for malformed values, never for bots.
Copy mark (markByoCopyType): write-once per copy type, per process reset seam covered.
seat-created sends setupOs and listenerAvailable; the copy events carry copyType; the event row shape is unchanged, so no copy type or setup value reaches byo_telemetry.
Frontend: StrictMode test confirms one seat-created event; Windows setup hides the daemon block, and the Windows case is asserted on the result page.
Own subagent review at this head: no blocking defects; its one useful nit (copy type must match step) is in this head with a test.
Known limit, noted on TASK-714: write-once means a later OS switch is not re-recorded.
Conflict note: this PR touches onboardingMarks.ts and User.ts, which #3140 (TASK-661) also touches. Merge main into this branch after #3140 lands, with a normal push, and file a new gate at that head.
Resolves the marks test imports and describe blocks: keeps the TASK-714
per-copy-type and setup marks alongside TASK-661's daemon-registered mark.

This head is a merge of origin/main (which includes #3140, merged as 7b765ef) into 1ffbd53, the head that already passed review. The only conflicts were in backend/tests/unit/services/onboardingMarks.test.js: the import list and two describe blocks. Both sides are kept: TASK-714's markByoCopyType/markByoSetup tests and TASK-661's markByoDaemonRegistered tests. No product code changed in the merge itself; onboardingMarks.ts, User.ts and V2AgentBYO.tsx auto-merged.

Record telemetry for manual copies.
The copy() button handler sends byoStep with a fixed copyType for the Claude, Cursor, listener, daemon, and token commands. The onCopy handlers on the listener, Claude, Cursor, and token blocks do not call byoStep. The daemon command row has no onCopy handler. A user who selects one of these commands and presses Ctrl/Cmd+C completes the copy without sending /api/stats/byo-step.
The two paths do not both run for one copy. The button path calls navigator.clipboard.writeText and does not dispatch a DOM copy event, so adding the byoStep calls to the onCopy handlers does not create duplicate events.

Add regression coverage for Claude MCP, Cursor MCP, and token copy types.
The listener and daemon mappings already have interactions with exact copyType assertions. Add successful result-page copy interactions for Claude MCP, Cursor MCP, and token copies. Assert mcp-claude, mcp-cursor, and token so each test fails if its mapping is removed or changed.

Assert the new BYO copy-type paths through a real User round trip.
The markByoCopyType and markByoSetup tests mock User.updateOne and check only the update arguments. Nothing in this test file reads the stored fields back through the model. The schema declares every new path, so removing those declarations would not fail these tests.
Coverage also differs by copy type. mcp-claude and listen assert the exact $set path. daemon is called three times, but no test asserts onboarding.byoDaemonCopiedAt. mcp-cursor and token have no exact-path assertion.
Add a test that uses the real User model. It should write the setup fields and each of the five copy-type marks, then read them back. Assert the exact persisted path for each copy type, including onboarding.byoMcpCursorCopiedAt, onboarding.byoDaemonCopiedAt, and onboarding.byoTokenCopiedAt.
