Today's condense pass, moving two lessons into the repo where the fleet reads them.

Walkthrough

The PR adds documentation about message ID matching in thread views and CSS specificity when adopting primitive button classes.

Changes: Message ID audit

Layer / File(s) Summary
Document message ID matching
docs/development/agent-experience-audit.md
Adds an audit entry describing the V2Message field mismatch, differing IDs on reconciled rows, and root-matching behavior in the Threads panel and threadView.ts.

Primitive style guidance

Layer / File(s) Summary
Document button style overrides
frontend/src/v2/primitives/primitives.css
Updates the guidance to explain that more-specific button rules can override v2p- classes and to retain layout and unsupported states such as disabled styling and applicable focus rings.

The documentation can mislead developers adopting the primitives, but the impact is limited to styling guidance.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names both documentation changes in the PR: a how-to for adopting a D223 primitive (the primitives.css header note) and AX-89 on the V2Message pgId gap (audit entry 89). It is specific, but it is long at 72 characters and joins two topics with a comma-and-conjunction structure. A teammate scanning history can still identify both changes.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is related to the changeset. It explains the two documentation additions: the primitives.css header note on adopting primitives and the lack of :disabled and focus-ring states, and AX audit entry 89 on the V2Message pgId omission and the same gap in utils/threadView.ts. It also states the change tier as docs only. The description is on-topic and specific enough to meet the lenient bar.

Limit the specificity claim to base selectors.

.v2p-b-g:hover has specificity (0,2,0) because :hover adds a pseudo-class. Therefore, “every one-class v2p- rule (0,1,0)” is too broad. The host selector still wins at (0,2,1), so distinguish base rules from state selectors.

Narrow the specificity claim in the comment near the v2p-b-g selector to apply
only to base v2p- rules; distinguish state selectors such as .v2p-b-g:hover,
whose pseudo-class gives them specificity (0,2,0), while retaining the host
selector’s (0,2,1) comparison.

Qualify the focus-ring override condition.

A later box-shadow rule does not override .v2p-b:focus-visible based on source order alone. The matching selector must also win specificity, or tie and appear later. State that the focus ring is needed when a later matching rule overrides the primitive declaration.

Update the focus-ring comment for .v2p-b:focus-visible to require a later
matching box-shadow rule that wins the cascade by higher specificity or equal
specificity with later source order.

Gate at fa32252 (Tier 0: a CSS comment and a docs entry).

Checked:

  • The primitives.css change is a comment only, with no rule changes.
  • The specificity claim is right: .v2-root button.<class> is (0,2,1), and a one-class v2p- rule is (0,1,0).
  • Both gaps the comment names are real: none of the primitives has a :disabled rule, and the phone Invite's box-shadow: none hid the primitive's focus ring (#3154).
  • AX-89 matches the code. formatMessage returns id: legacy_mongo_id || pgId plus pgId. V2Message doesn't declare pgId. threadView.ts builds presentIds from m.id alone. The follow-up is TASK-738.
  • CI is green, and CodeRabbit raised no findings.
