feat(cards): catalogue revision 2 with a server-stamped Source (TASK-607) - #3196
TASK-607 (D145). Catalogue revision 2 adds one component, Source(connector, fetchedAt), so a card built from a connector call can say where its data came from: "Linear · fetched 2 min ago".
Tier 2: the card trust boundary. Source names a vendor origin, so an agent must never be able to write one.
What changed
Revision 2 grammar (backend/config/uiCardCatalogue.rev2.json + its pin). Revision 1 plus Source, and Source allowed as a Card child. connector is an enum (linear, sentry, atlassian). fetchedAt must be an ISO UTC stamp. There is no URL and no image in the component. Revision 1's files are untouched.
Validator (backend/services/uiCardValidation.ts):
It keeps one parser and tree check per revision and accepts either exact tuple.
It refuses any agent-written Source under both revisions with invalid_ui_card. That covers a Source inside a Card, behind a reference, or in a dormant statement.
A card may carry at most one Source, and only on the top-level Card.
Agents still author revision 1, and the MCP snapshot is unchanged.
stampCardSource(source, content, { connector, fetchedAt }) is the only writer, and nothing calls it until TASK-337. It:
holds the input to the agent rules, so vendor data can't carry its own Source;
appends Source to the top-level Card;
reprints the tree as positional OpenUI;
revalidates the result as revision 2.
The Card's six-child and 32 KB bounds still apply after the stamp.
Reader (frontend/src/v2/cards):
It accepts revisions 1 and 2, and anything else still shows "Unsupported card version."
It mirrors the one-Source rule.
Source renders in the card footer: the bundled connector-tile mark at 16px, then the name, then fetched 2 min ago. The absolute time sits in the <time> title.
Mark and text use v2 tokens only, with no new colours and no dark-only rules. The bundled tile-set mark (feat(connectors): tile grid for channels and tools (TASK-677 slice a) #3066) is redrawn in one colour, --s (--v2-text-secondary), with its white knockouts in --v2-bg. Its brand fills fail on the dark card (Sentry #362D59 is 1.41:1 on #141922). The time uses --m (--v2-text-muted).
Measured on --v2-bg: the mark and name are 7.69:1 light and 8.63:1 dark; the time is 4.97:1 light and 5.77:1 dark.
sync-ui-card-catalogue.mjs copies both revisions, and its test covers both.
Tests
Backend (uiCardSource.test.js):
refuses an agent Source under rev 1 and rev 2, by reference and when dormant;
refuses a stamped envelope resubmitted by an agent;
accepts a server-stamped card;
refuses unknown connectors and bad fetchedAt;
covers the reprint round-trip for escapes, unicode, refs, helpers, negative and decimal numbers, null table cells and a defaulted RunTrace;
accepts only a Date or the exact ISO stamp for fetchedAt;
covers the Card-only stamp and the six-child bound.
Revision 2's positional ABI and hash are pinned in uiCardCatalogueRevision.test.js.
agentsRuntime.cardKindBoundary.test.js: an agent POST with a hand-written Source returns 400 invalid_ui_card and stores nothing, under both revisions.
Frontend:
rev 1 and rev 2 cards both render;
unknown revisions show the unsupported note;
Source shows the mark, name, relative time and title;
the rev 2 reader refuses a root, nested, duplicate, unknown-connector or bad-stamp Source;
fetchedLabel boundaries;
a layout-invariants presence test on the Source rules' token use.
Browser: headless Chromium at 1440 and 390, light and dark, using the real v2.css and uiCard.css. Source sits right of the buttons at 1440 and stacks under the 44px buttons at 390, with no overflow; the mark and text resolve to the token values above.
Run in containers: backend card, route and service suites 213/213; frontend cards plus layout invariants 351/351; node --test scripts/ui-card-catalogue.test.mjs 5/5. tsc --noEmit is clean for backend and frontend.
Notes for TASK-337
A card needs a free child slot: Card keeps maxItems: 6, and the stamp takes one.
Pass fetchedAt from the server clock, as a Date.
Agents keep authoring revision 1, and the MCP snapshot is unchanged, so no cli or mcp publish is needed.
Review: one Opus-class subagent review (Tier 2) returned PASS. Its should-fix (the browser check) and nits (mark contrast, a loose fetchedAt, round-trip cases) are fixed in the second commit. One gap is left: no test feeds the backend printer's output into the frontend reader. They are separate packages, and both are pinned against the same grammar.
After deploy
Walk on prod at 1440 and 390, light and dark. An existing rev 1 card still renders, and an agent post with a hand-written Source is refused with invalid_ui_card.
…607)
Revision 2 adds one component, Source(connector, fetchedAt), naming where a
card's data came from. connector is linear, sentry or atlassian, drawn with
the bundled connector-tile marks; there is no URL or remote image in it.
Revision 1 is untouched and still what agents author. The validator now keeps
one parser per revision, accepts either tuple, and refuses any agent-written
Source under both with invalid_ui_card. stampCardSource() is the only writer:
it holds the input to the agent rules, appends Source to the top-level Card,
reprints it as positional OpenUI and revalidates it as revision 2. Nothing
calls it until TASK-337.
The reader accepts revisions 1 and 2 and keeps the unsupported note for
anything else. Source renders in the card footer as the mark, the connector
name and "fetched 2 min ago", with the absolute time as the title. Text uses
the card's existing v2 token aliases only.

The bundled marks' brand fills fail 3:1 on the dark card (Sentry #362D59 is
1.41:1 on #141922). The spec asks for the mark in v2 tokens, so the Source
line redraws it in --v2-text-secondary with its white knockouts in --v2-bg:
7.69:1 light, 8.63:1 dark, measured in a headless browser at 1440 and 390.
stampCardSource now takes a Date or the exact ISO stamp only. new Date()
read a loose string such as "1" as 2001 and stamped it as valid. Adds a
reprint case for negative and decimal numbers, null table cells and a
defaulted RunTrace limit.

A string fetchedAt now has to survive the ISO round trip unchanged, so
2026-02-30 or T24:00 is refused rather than stamped as 03-02 or the next
day. Found by CodeRabbit on #3196.

Walkthrough
This change adds revision 2 of the UI card catalogue. The backend validates revision-specific payloads and stamps Source metadata. The frontend selects the matching revision and displays stamped source metadata in the card footer.

Summary
Catalogue contract and server stamping backend/config/uiCardCatalogue*.json, backend/services/uiCardValidation.ts, backend/__tests__/unit/services/*, backend/__tests__/service/agentsRuntime.cardKindBoundary.test.js, frontend/src/v2/cards/uiCardCatalogue*.json, frontend/scripts/*
The backend supports catalogue revisions 1 and 2, refuses agent-authored Source components, and adds stampCardSource to validate and stamp revision 2 envelopes. The frontend catalogue copies and sync checks cover both revisions.
Revision-aware frontend parsing and rendering frontend/src/v2/cards/uiCardSource.ts, frontend/src/v2/cards/V2UICard.tsx, frontend/src/v2/cards/cardRuntime.tsx, frontend/src/v2/cards/__tests__/V2UICard.test.tsx
The frontend selects a reader from the payload’s catalogue tuple and passes it through parsing and rendering. The runtime uses the selected revision’s grammar and renders Source in the footer.
Invalid timestamps are rejected, and no merge-blocking issue is evident.

357-359: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Refuse impossible calendar dates in fetchedAt instead of silently changing them.
The regex checks only the shape of the string. It does not check that the date exists. new Date() then decides the result. In V8, new Date('2026-02-30T09:30:00.000Z') rolls over to 2026-03-02. T24:00:00.000Z also passes and becomes midnight of the next day. Neither value is NaN, so the guard at Line 359 does not fire. fetchedAt.toISOString() then stamps a different timestamp from the one the vendor supplied, with no error.
The comment at Lines 355-356 says this branch exists to stop loose vendor strings from being stamped as valid. This is the same class of defect. The tests at Line 94 of uiCardSource.test.js do not cover an impossible calendar date.
Fix: in the string branch, require a round-trip match. Add a test case for '2026-02-30T09:30:00.000Z'.

CodeRabbit's grouped comment on fetchedAt was right: the shape check let 2026-02-30T09:30:00.000Z and T24:00 through, and new Date() rolled them over to a different stamp. Fixed in 40a5cc7. A string now has to survive the ISO round trip unchanged, and tests cover both cases plus a bare number.
Tier 2, the card trust boundary. This is the one Opus-class review, run as a subagent of the writing session (Stack) on 0d3c33c5d. It returned VERDICT: PASS with no blockers.
What it checked:
No agent path can store or render a Source. That covers both revisions, references, dormant statements, case variants, a statement named Source, and the stamp helper's input. The frontend reader is never looser than the server.
The stampCardSource reprint round-trips JSON-escaped strings, numbers, null cells and references.
The per-revision refactor is correct. Rev 1 behaviour is unchanged apart from the refusal message for Source(.
Its findings are all fixed at this head:
Should-fix, a real-browser layout check: done in headless Chromium at 1440/390 light/dark. Source sits right of the buttons at 1440 and stacks under the 44px buttons at 390, with no overflow.
The mark wasn't token-only, and brand fills failed on dark (Sentry #362D59 measures 1.41:1 on #141922). It is now redrawn as --v2-text-secondary plus --v2-bg knockouts: 7.69:1 light, 8.63:1 dark.
fetchedAt accepted loose strings. It now accepts a Date or the exact ISO stamp. CodeRabbit's follow-up (an impossible date rolling over) is fixed in 40a5cc7 with an ISO round-trip check.
Round-trip test gaps are closed: negative and decimal numbers, null cells, a defaulted RunTrace.
Left open, stated in the PR body: no test feeds the backend printer's output into the frontend reader, because they are separate packages.
Reverse check at this head, in a container. In each case the fix was removed, the tests run, and the fix restored with git checkout:
