feat(cards): approve Linear, Sentry and Atlassian links; teach the card rule (TASK-336) - #3208
Approved card link hosts: exact `linear.app` and `sentry.io`, plus one suffix rule `.atlassian.net`. HTTPS only, no credentials, no custom port. The frontend (`cardLinks.ts`) and the server (`uiCardValidation.ts`) now share the same rule.
`commonly_post_message` description carries the list-results card rule, with the catalogue tuple read from the package's catalogue file. Pinned by a test.
Card styles already read v2 tokens. A presence test fails on any hex or rgb literal in `uiCard.css`, so cards follow dark mode.
Backend and frontend card-link validation now applies approved-host rules. Backend message routes use validation results to fall back to text for unapproved hosts. The commonly_post_message description documents posting qualifying list results as UI cards with a text fallback and catalogue revision data.

Summary
Backend validation and text fallback backend/services/uiCardValidation.ts, backend/routes/agentsRuntime.ts, backend/__tests__/unit/services/uiCardValidation.test.js
Backend validation checks approved hosts for Link URLs and OpenUrl literals. It distinguishes unapproved-host errors from other validation errors. Message routes use the result to post text without a card payload when fallback applies. Tests cover approved hosts, rejected URLs, and validation results.
The commonly_post_message description instructs callers to post qualifying list results as one card, with records as the text fallback and payload data from the packaged catalogue revision. A test checks the guidance and catalogue ID and hash.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2675: Adds server validation for UI-card Link and OpenUrl values, which this change extends with approved-host checks and fallback handling.
Team-Commonly/commonly#2803: Adds the frontend OpenUI renderer and cardHref allowlist, which this change extends with additional hosts and matching server checks.
Team-Commonly/commonly#3112: Adds the UI-card catalogue tuple used by the updated commonly_post_message guidance.
Merge Risk: Low · up to 50016
Mixed-invalid cards can be posted as text rather than rejected, and the fallback routes lack direct tests. These bounded gaps should be addressed or accepted before merge.

Document the exact approved URL rule.
The description says “an approved host” but does not identify the accepted hosts or the Atlassian subdomain rule. A client can follow this guidance and still submit a rejected card. State that links must use exactly linear.app, exactly sentry.io, or one-label subdomains of atlassian.net, with no credentials or custom port.
As per path instructions, tool descriptions must match the implementation's cross-layer contract.

The staging seed's rev-1 card links https://staging.commonly.me/v2. The new
server host check refused it, and the renderer never opened it either, so the
seed button had not worked on staging. Add the exact host to both sets.

A revert of the Link guard to HTTPS-only would have left the suite green.
Add Link cases: approved hosts accepted, an unapproved HTTPS host refused.

Stop rejecting whole card messages for unsupported link hosts.
validateAgentCardPayload runs before postMessage on both bot routes. When the new host check refuses a Link or OpenUrl, the call throws before anything is posted, so the message is not delivered. The text content fallback is never sent. Before this change, the validator accepted any credential-free https: URL, so existing callers that send a card with a link to another HTTPS host now get an error and no message.
A guard failure must fail toward over-delivery, not toward a message nobody sees. An unsupported host should not reject the message. Keep the refusals for credentials, a non-HTTPS scheme, and invalid catalogue content. For a host-only refusal, post the text fallback instead. This needs the validator to report host refusals separately so the route can fall back only for those. The fallback is already required to be non-empty (content text fallback check), so the text is always available.

Both earlier blockers are fixed at this head: the staging seed link is approved, and the v2-layout-invariants conflict is gone. One defect is left, and it defeats the Sentry half of the change.
Real Sentry links are refused. Sentry SaaS links an issue on the org's own subdomain. Our recorded Sentry tools list (backend/__tests__/fixtures/hostedMcp/sentry-tools-list-2026-10-19.json, and backend/integrations/hostedMcp/sentry.ts) shows https://my-organization.sentry.io/issues/PROJECT-1Z43. UI_LINK_HOSTS holds only sentry.io, so isApprovedCardLink returns false for that URL. validatePresentation then refuses the whole card, and the new CARD RULE in commonly_post_message sends agents straight into that refusal for every sentry list. The client's cardHref has the same gap.
Fix: one suffix rule on both sides, like the Atlassian one. That's a single label under sentry.io (/^[a-z0-9-]+\.sentry\.io$/), keeping bare sentry.io for older org paths. Add a server test and a client test with the fixture-shaped URL, and a refusal for a two-label host (a.b.sentry.io).
Not blocking: the server set mirrors cardLinks.ts by comment only. A parity test that imports both would stop them drifting, since this PR already had to change both.
Real Sentry issue links sit on the org subdomain, so the bare sentry.io
entry refused every Sentry card. Extend the suffix rule to
<org>.sentry.io, the same single-label shape as <site>.atlassian.net.
Deeper names stay refused on both client and server.

A host-only refusal rejected the whole agent message, so the text fallback
never posted. Scheme, credential and port faults still refuse the card; an
unknown host now returns a degrade signal and both bot routes post the
non-empty text as a plain message.

Validate every URL fault before choosing text fallback.
202-202: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Validate every URL fault before choosing text fallback.
If one statement contains an unapproved host and a later statement contains an HTTP URL, the first UnapprovedHostError stops validation. This catch returns true, so the route posts text instead of refusing the card for its HTTP URL. The same ordering can mask a later credential or port fault. Collect host-only failures while continuing validation, then choose fallback only if no hard refusal occurs. Add a mixed-fault test with the unapproved host first. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Review comment at @backend/services/uiCardValidation.ts at line 202:
Update the validation handling around UnapprovedHostError to record host-only
failures and continue checking every statement, allowing later HTTP URL,
credential, or port faults to refuse the card; choose text fallback only when no
hard refusal is found. Add a mixed-fault test with the unapproved host first to
verify the later hard fault is not masked.

Add route-level tests for the host fallback in both post-message routes.
1619-1620: Minor · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win
Add route-level tests for the host fallback in both post-message routes.
Both routes now set messageType to 'text' and drop payload when validateAgentCardPayload flags a fallback (backend/routes/agentsRuntime.ts:1619-1620 and 2332-2333). No inspected route test drives either route through that branch. The validator tests in backend/__tests__/unit/services/uiCardValidation.test.js assert only that validate(...) returns true for an unapproved host. They do not inspect the arguments passed to AgentMessageService.postMessage.
Add one route test for each route. Each test should send a card payload with an unapproved host, such as https://evil.example/x. It should assert messageType: 'text' and no payload in the postMessage call. The runtime-route test should also assert that the freshness hold applies to the fallback text when continueAnyway is not set. Revert each changed branch and confirm that the matching test fails.
