In a previous version of capymoa we had some issues with the Google Colab platform compatibility. This PR tests against Google Colab images on release. Only runs unit tests not tutorials. It was easier to setup, runs faster, but will still catch any environment issues.

@tachyonicClock tachyonicClock changed the title Colab compat check ci(release): add Google Colab compatibility check Oct 8, 2026
CapyMOA broke on Google Colab without CI catching it, since release.yml
only tests with uv sync in a clean venv. The new colab job installs and
tests CapyMOA the way a Colab user does: plain pip, no venv, inside the
Colab cpu-runtime image. release_pypi now depends on it.

Also fix test_bad_infer_java_home, which raised KeyError instead of the
intended assertion failure when JAVA_HOME was already unset, as it is in
the Colab image.

… steps

Manual testing against the Colab cpu-runtime image showed Java is already
present and pip install works without the extra setup steps, so drop the
conditional Java install, explicit pytest plugin installs, and disk-space
cleanup. Switch from a manual `docker pull` + `docker run` pair to a
job-level `container:`, which runs the job's steps directly inside the
image instead of alongside the runner's own toolchain.
