v5.4.1: revert ABI breaking changes from modulo v5.4 #240

Description

@domire8

Some commits in modulo, in particular

are ABI breaking additions to these classes and should be technically introduced in a v6 version of modulo. As a temporary fix, we will partially revert those and release a 5.4.1 version that should not break any existing extensions built with 5.2.3.

The python components will keep their feature for assignments as a preview.

    we still need a 5.4.1 release, I would suggest to keep this as the "release" issue and only close it when done
