This is release prep only. Do not merge, tag, or publish a catalog entry from this PR.

Version bump is 0.5.6 to 0.6.0 in plugin.yaml, the bundled skill frontmatter, .github/workflows/release-candidate.yml (--version 0.6.0 and hermes-switchyard-0.6.0.zip), scripts/ci/check_windows_installed_archive.py, and the tests test_ci_contracts.py, test_release_stabilization.py, and test_windows_installed_archive.py. scripts/build_release.py only adds two benchmark JSON files to RELEASE_FILES.

The changelog heading is ## 0.6.0 (2026-10-04). That date is ahead of the Saturday-night author time and should be changed if the tag lands on a later day.

Benchmark honesty: the skill-pick and multi-skill rows are the dd4477a remeasure (12/12 single-skill, p50 151.7 ms; 5/5 multi-skill, p50 154 ms). Proof binds the plugin hash to dd4477a, then says the release plugin hash differs because #215 changed approval_review.py and the operations skill body after that measurement. Those rows were not re-measured after #215. Other rows stay 0.5.0-only.

Path A: the smart approval provider stays. There is no new code for D2/B/C.

Checks already reported locally: 104 tests in six targeted modules passed; tree portability passed; no 0.5.6 version declaration left outside the changelog. Not run: the full unit suite, evaluation/evaluate.py --validate, history portability, native-Hermes CI, and the release-candidate workflow. CI on this PR will cover what the workflows run.

Summary by Sourcery

Prepare the repository and release validation artifacts for version 0.6.0.

Enhancements:

  • Finalize the 0.6.0 changelog and documentation, including the newly released opt-in features and updated benchmark evidence.
  • Refresh benchmark documentation with newly measured single-skill and multi-skill results and include their reproducibility artifacts.

Build:

  • Update release packaging to include the 0.6.0 version and new benchmark artifacts.

CI:

  • Update release-candidate and Windows archive validation workflows and contracts for version 0.6.0.

Documentation:

  • Mark the 0.6.0 feature set and supporting guides as released rather than experimental or unreleased.

Tests:

  • Update release stabilization and Windows archive tests for the 0.6.0 package identity.

Chores:

  • Bump the plugin, bundled skill, README, and release validation version references from 0.5.6 to 0.6.0.

Bump the version from 0.5.6 to 0.6.0 in the manifest, bundled skill,
release workflow, Windows archive gate, and tests. Date the 0.6.0
changelog section and cite #215 in its approval-gate bullet.

Add the skill-pick benchmark artifacts measured on dd4477a and state
that #215 changed plugin code after that measurement. Update the
bundled operations skill text and drop pre-release labels in docs.

Reviewer's Guide

This release-preparation PR changes the project identity and packaging contracts to 0.6.0, finalizes release-facing documentation and changelog language, and adds hash-bound benchmark artifacts with explicit limits around measurement freshness. Reviewers should especially validate the consistency of every version/archive reference, the release date, and that the benchmark claims accurately match the included artifacts and pre-#215 source.

Change Details Files
Promote the repository and release-candidate pipeline from 0.5.6 to 0.6.0.
  • Update the canonical plugin, bundled skill, README, CI archive/version arguments, Windows archive validator, and version-contract tests.
  • Replace the unreleased changelog framing with the 0.6.0 release summary and document the opt-in features and post-measurement caveats.
  • Review the hard-coded release date, which is currently 2026-10-04 and may need adjustment if tagging occurs later.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in CHANGELOG.md: The 0.6.0 heading now gives the release date, and the working-draft notice and release-freeze guidance are replaced by a release summary.
  • observed — Modified behavior in CHANGELOG.md: Adds the single-skill and multi-skill benchmark results, identifies the measured source and subsequent changes, and states which rows were not re-measured or remain 0.5.0-only.
  • observed — Modified behavior in CHANGELOG.md: Replaces the fixed tool-gate entry with expanded trigger, platform, parsing, and dynamic-dispatch boundaries and updates its issue references. The approval-prompt entry adds that copied truncation markers cannot reveal masked input.
  • observed — Modified behavior in README.md: The README version changes from 0.5.6 to 0.6.0.

**nitpick:** The changelog records 2026-10-04 as the release date even though the release has not been tagged and the date is ahead of the author’s current Saturday-night date; tagging on a different day leaves the published release history with a false date.

**Triggers:** When the tag is created on a day other than 2026-10-04.

**Suggested fix:** Set the heading date to the actual tag date, or retain an unreleased heading until the tag is ready.

Sourcery assessment

Needs a human reviewer. This changes the release workflow and package identity, so an incorrect version could produce externally distributed archives, manifests, or documentation that remain after a revert. The issue is bounded and can be corrected by rebuilding or issuing a follow-up release, but reverting alone would not retract artifacts already consumed.
