ide-byebye

English | 中文

⌘-click any rendered element, describe the change in plain words, and hand source location + intent to Codex App / Claude App / Cursor / Grok Build / Claude Code CLI / OpenCode — no hunting through the IDE.

Dev-only plugin for Vite / webpack / rspack / rsbuild / esbuild / Farm, Next.js (Turbopack + webpack) and the Angular CLI (Mako: path injection only). It overlays a source-aware picker on your running app, builds a structured prompt (file:line, surrounding source, intent, optional screenshots / styles / recording), and opens the chosen agent via deeplink or Terminal.

It is glue, not a model: it never edits files and ships no AI SDK. The agent you hand off to does the actual change.

Works with React, Vue, Svelte, Solid, Preact and Angular — including SSR frameworks such as Next.js, Nuxt and SvelteKit. See Framework support.

⌘-click an element, describe the change, hand off to Claude App or an open Codex session

What the clip shows (an animated walkthrough of the Vue demo; MP4):

  1. Pick — hold ⌘ and click a rendered node; the overlay resolves data-insp-path to source (src/App.vue #85-87 in the clip).
  2. Describe — type plain-language intent in the dialog (optional @code, screenshots, styles, or recording).
  3. Hand off — choose Codex App / Claude App / Cursor / Grok Build / Claude Code CLI / OpenCode; the loopback server builds a structured prompt and opens the agent with file:line + intent already filled in. In the clip the prompt goes to Claude App, then the filter bar (#99-129) goes into a Codex thread that is already open (Send to an existing session).

Why hand over a line range: give an agent a screenshot, or "the black button on the home page", and it has to guess where the code lives, then grep and read file after file. That burns tokens and fills the context, and the vaguer the hint, the likelier it edits a look-alike component. With @file #lines it starts on the right lines.

A screenshot plus "the black button on the home page": the agent greps and reads file after file while tokens and context climb

Measured with Grok Build on a real React app (875 TS/TSX files): 3 UI changes, each pointed out three ways (a text description, a screenshot plus one sentence, and ide-byebye's @file #lines), 3 runs per way. All 27 runs edited the right place; the difference is the search (medians):

Text description Screenshot + text ide-byebye
Tokens 286k 386k 106k
Time 99 s 88 s 48 s
File reads 11 11 3
Peak context 40k 38k 18k

About 2/3 fewer tokens, about half the time, and less than half the peak context. On averages the gap is wider: about 80% fewer tokens and 60% less time. Codex, Claude and Cursor receive the same @file #lines prompt.

How to use

Copy this README URL and paste it into Cursor / Claude / Codex / Grok with your project open:

https://github.com/bo-516/ide-byebye

Then send:

Add ide-byebye to this project. Follow https://github.com/bo-516/ide-byebye

Chinese README: https://github.com/bo-516/ide-byebye/blob/main/README.zh-CN.md

Or install it yourself in Install / Quick start.

How it works

  1. Pick — hotkey (default Alt+Shift+I) or hold clickModifier (⌘ / Ctrl) and click. Source comes from data-insp-path written by the built-in stamper (Angular: from Angular's dev-mode component debug info).
  2. Describe — intent dialog opens on the element. Optionally add @code refs, screenshots, computed styles, or an interaction recording.
  3. Hand off — click Codex App / Claude App / Cursor / Grok Build / Claude Code CLI / OpenCode. The local loopback server (127.0.0.1, per-process token) builds the prompt and opens the agent (deeplink or Terminal).

Nothing leaves your machine except the deeplink you trigger. Adapters only inject a bootstrap: into HTML, or — when a framework renders its own HTML — into a module every page already loads (/@vite/client, a Next.js root layout / _app, an Angular dev script).

Install

npm i -D ide-byebye

That is the only install. JSX is stamped with oxc-parser. Vue templates use the @vue/compiler-dom already in a Vue 3 app (Vue 2.7: npm i -D @vue/compiler-dom). Pug templates need pug. Svelte uses the project's svelte.

Optional — element-behavior recording (off by default, lazy-loaded):

npm i -D @rrweb/record @rrweb/replay

Enable with recording: true or a recording options object.

Quick start

Vite (default export)

// vite.config.js
import { defineConfig } from 'vite';
import react from '@vitejs/plugin-react'; // or @vitejs/plugin-vue
import ideByebye from 'ide-byebye'; // same as 'ide-byebye/vite'

export default defineConfig({
  plugins: [
    // Zero-config: built-in source stamps, ⌘/Ctrl-click pick,
    // all footer agents + clipboard/file, recording off, Enter → Claude App.
    ideByebye(),
    react(),
  ],
});

Next.js

// next.config.mjs  (next.config.ts / .js work the same)
import withIdeByebye from 'ide-byebye/next';

export default withIdeByebye(
  { reactStrictMode: true }, // your Next config: object, function or promise
  { defaultAgent: 'codex-app' },  // ide-byebye options (optional)
);
  • Covers next dev with Turbopack (Next 16's default) and with --webpack, App Router and Pages Router — no code in your app. The wrapper adds the data-insp-path rules plus a loader that renders a generated 'use client' bootstrap (.intent-inspector/next/bootstrap.js, git-ignored) as the last child of every root layout's <body>, or imports it from _app.
  • Only the next dev server process is touched: next build / next start get your config back unchanged, and your own turbopack.rules / webpack() are kept.
  • Verified on Next 14.2, 15.2 and 16.3. In monorepos the project dir is taken from the next.config.* location (override with root).
  • Already using ide-byebye/turbopack in turbopack.rules? It now mounts the bootstrap as well; switch to ide-byebye/next to also cover --webpack.

Angular (CLI)

The Angular CLI exposes no bundler plugin hook, so two angular.json entries do the wiring — ng serve only, production builds are untouched:

// ide-byebye.proxy.mjs  (workspace root)
import { angularProxy } from 'ide-byebye/angular';

export default await angularProxy(); // spread next to your own proxy entries, if any
// angular.json → projects.<app>.architect
"build": { "configurations": { "development": {
  "scripts": ["node_modules/ide-byebye/dist/angular/bootstrap.js"]
} } },
"serve": { "options": { "proxyConfig": "ide-byebye.proxy.mjs" } }

Angular templates cannot be stamped with data-insp-path. Instead the picker reads Angular's dev-mode debug info (owning component + its source file), and the server matches the element against that component's template parsed with your own @angular/compiler — the prompt points at src/app/app.html #9-12 (or into the inline template:). Matching uses tag, static attributes, text and the ancestors the same template declared: exact for typical templates, best effort for heavily dynamic ones (it then points at the whole template). Verified on Angular 22. If development already has scripts, add the entry to that list.

Other bundlers

Import the matching subpath — never pass a bundler string yourself:

Bundler Import Notes
Vite ide-byebye / ide-byebye/vite Full zero-config (default).
webpack ide-byebye/webpack Injects into HtmlWebpackPlugin output.
rspack ide-byebye/rspack Same shape as webpack.
rsbuild ide-byebye/rsbuild plugins: [inspector()].
esbuild ide-byebye/esbuild Pass htmlFiles: ['./index.html'] if HTML is not in outdir.
Farm ide-byebye/farm Returns [stamp, inspector] — spread into Farm plugins.
Next.js ide-byebye/next withIdeByebye(nextConfig) — Turbopack + webpack, see Next.js.
Turbopack (rules only) ide-byebye/turbopack For turbopack.rules; bootstrap mounted automatically in next dev.
Angular CLI ide-byebye/angular proxyConfig + dev scripts, see Angular.
Mako (Umi) ide-byebye/mako Path injection only (data-insp-path); mount the bootstrap yourself.
// webpack.config.js
import inspector from 'ide-byebye/webpack';
export default {
  plugins: [new HtmlWebpackPlugin({ template: './index.html' }), inspector()],
};
// rsbuild.config.ts
import { defineConfig } from '@rsbuild/core';
import inspector from 'ide-byebye/rsbuild';
export default defineConfig({ plugins: [inspector()] });
// esbuild
import * as esbuild from 'esbuild';
import inspector from 'ide-byebye/esbuild';
await esbuild.context({
  entryPoints: ['src/main.jsx'],
  bundle: true,
  outdir: 'dist',
  plugins: inspector({ htmlFiles: ['./index.html'] }),
});

Override only what you need:

ideByebye({
  defaultAgent: 'codex-app', // Enter key → a footer agent
  agents: {
    cursorApp: { workspace: 'my-app' },
    grokBuild: { permissionMode: 'plan' },
    codexApp: false, // hide a footer agent
    file: false, // disable backend agent (clipboard / file)
  },
  recording: true,
});

Default export and named export codeIntentInspectorPlugin are the same (Vite). Use whichever you prefer.

Framework support

What the prompt references is the picked element's exact source range, located with each framework's own parser:

Framework Element → source Source context
React / Preact / Solid (JSX) data-insp-path (built-in stamper) oxc AST: element, enclosing component, imports
Vue 3 SFC data-insp-path the project's @vue/compiler-dom — exact ranges (multi-line tags, > in bindings, same-name nesting, slots). Pug templates are stamped with the project's pug; the prompt still uses a line window for pug. Vue 2.7 needs npm i -D @vue/compiler-dom
Svelte 3 / 4 / 5 data-insp-path your project's svelte/compiler AST, including Svelte 5 {#snippet} / {@render}
Angular Angular dev-mode component info your @angular/compiler template AST + element matching (details)

SSR frameworks render their own HTML, so the bootstrap rides on a module every page already loads:

Framework Setup Verified
Next.js ide-byebye/next pnpm dev:next (5860), pnpm dev:next:webpack (5870) + local npm test. Next 16.3.6
Nuxt vite: { plugins: [inspector()] } in nuxt.config pnpm dev:nuxt (5880) + local npm test. Nuxt 4.5.2
SvelteKit plugins: [inspector(), sveltekit()] in vite.config pnpm dev:sveltekit (5890) + local npm test. Kit 2.70.3 + Svelte 5.57.1
SolidStart / Astro / React Router / Vike / … the Vite plugin, as usual same mechanism, not individually tested
Angular CLI ide-byebye/angular pnpm dev:angular (5900) + local npm test. Angular CLI 22.2.0
// nuxt.config.ts
import inspector from 'ide-byebye/vite';

export default defineNuxtConfig({ vite: { plugins: [inspector()] } });

For Vite-based frameworks the JS bootstrap is appended to /@vite/client; SPA pages still get the HTML tags (the JS path then does nothing). The project root is the package that owns Vite's root — Nuxt 4 points root at app/ — so references read app/app.vue #9-13, relative to the folder agents open. For JSX frameworks (React, Solid, Preact) register inspector() before the framework plugin.

From the package root, npm test installs demo dependencies when the lockfile changed, builds dist/ when it is missing or older than src/, then checks bootstrap injection and source location for every row above. Hold ⌘ and click any element to open the intent dialog. Details: demo/README.md.

Requirements

  • Node — ^20.19.0 or >=22.12.0.
  • Bundler — Vite >=4, webpack >=5, rspack, rsbuild, esbuild, Farm, Next.js >=14.2 (Turbopack or webpack) or the Angular CLI. Mako only injects data-insp-path. Vue, pug, and Svelte stamping use the compiler installed in your project. .astro and .mdx are not stamped.
  • Footer agents — Codex App / Claude App / Cursor / Grok Build / Claude Code CLI / OpenCode open via the OS default (open on macOS, cmd /c start on Windows, xdg-open on Linux). Windows is zero-config for most setups; override only if the default opener fails (see Windows).
  • Target agent installed — Codex App / Claude App / Cursor / Grok Build CLI / Claude Code / OpenCode (desktop app or CLI). No extra npm deps for these agents.

The intent dialog

Feature What it does
Element pick ⌘-click (or hotkey + click). Re-resolves data-insp-path after SPA re-renders.
Mention editor Rich contenteditable; picked element is a pinned primary reference. Empty intent OK if you attach refs.
@code references Pick another element → inline @file #range at caret. Deduped; order preserved.
Screenshots selection / parent / viewport (multi-select). Persisted as UI preference.
Rendered styles Curated computed CSS (~110 props), element or ancestor chain. Opt-in; read at send time.
Recording rrweb element-behavior capture + still frame. Off by default; needs @rrweb/* when enabled.
Send One Send button (↑) — and Enter — hands off to the destination shown beside it. Change the destination (and pick an existing session) from that picker; it is remembered, so the dialog stays one row. Copy prompt (⧉) copies instead.
Pin Collapse to a floating orb across pages. Warm restore keeps attachments; full reload keeps text only.

Configuration reference

ideByebye(options) — every option is optional. Invalid values fall back to the defaults below.

Minimal config

// vite.config.js
import ideByebye from 'ide-byebye';

export default {
  plugins: [ideByebye()],
};

Empty call is enough. You get:

Behavior Default
Plugin on enabled: true (dev only)
Pick hold ⌘ (macOS) / Ctrl → click; hotkey Alt+Shift+I
Enter handoff Claude App
Footer agents Codex App / Claude App / Cursor / Grok Build / Claude Code CLI / OpenCode — all on (a missing app or CLI greys its row out). Antigravity IDE and Antigravity CLI stay off until configured
Backend agents clipboard (Copy prompt button) + file (no UI entry point) — on; neither is an Enter target
Recording off; enable with recording: true (needs @rrweb/record + @rrweb/replay)
UI locale auto (navigator.language → else zh)
Dialog theme light; theme: 'auto' follows the system, 'dark' pins dark
Handoff files .intent-inspector/ (gitignore this — see Artifacts)
Source @ paths relative; screenshot / still paths absolute
Source stamps on by default (absolute paths). Set sourceStamp: false to turn them off

Override only what you need:

ideByebye({
  defaultAgent: 'cursor-app',
  locale: 'en',
  recording: true,
  agents: {
    codexApp: false,
    cursorApp: { workspace: 'my-app' },
  },
});

Optional options (one by one)

enabled

Type boolean
Default true
Set to false to fully disable (no server, no inject). Anything else stays on.

locale

Type 'zh' | 'en'
Default auto — config.locale → navigator.language → zh
Set to 'zh' / 'en', or any string starting with zh → Chinese, else English. Prompt text and brand names are not localized.

theme

Type 'light' | 'auto' | 'dark'
Default 'light'
Set to 'auto' to follow the system light / dark setting, or 'dark' to always use the dark theme. Covers the dialog, its menus and the recording editor. When it is unset (or not one of the three), the page logs a colored console hint naming this option after it loads.

hotkey

Type string
Default 'Alt+Shift+I'
Set to +-joined combo, case-insensitive. Modifiers: alt/option, shift, ctrl/control, meta/cmd/command. Last token is the key. Toggles the picker.

clickModifier

Type string | null | false
Default 'auto' → ⌘ on macOS, Ctrl elsewhere
Set to 'meta' / 'ctrl' / 'alt' / 'shift' to force a modifier; null / false disables click-to-pick (hotkey still works).

defaultAgent

Type string
Default 'claude-app'
Set to Enter-key target: 'codex-app' / 'claude-app' / 'cursor-app' / 'grok-build' / 'claude-cli' / 'opencode' / 'antigravity-ide' / 'antigravity', or an agents.custom name. 'clipboard' / 'file' are never Enter targets — like unknown / disabled values, they fall back to the first enabled footer agent (Codex → Claude → Cursor → Grok Build → Claude Code CLI → OpenCode → Antigravity IDE → Antigravity → custom); if none is enabled, Enter only shows a "not enabled" error. Once you pick another agent in the destination picker next to Send, Enter follows that choice instead (remembered in this browser). 'antigravity-ide' and 'antigravity' work only after those agents are turned on.

applyMode

Type 'prompt-only' | 'agent-edit'
Default 'prompt-only'
Set to Hint embedded in the handoff: propose a plan only vs. allow the agent to edit.

outputDir

Type string
Default '.intent-inspector'
Set to Project-relative dir for file agent / promptMode: 'file' / overflow handoffs. Must stay inside the project root. Strongly recommended: add this directory to .gitignore (see Artifacts for why).

maxSourceContextLines

Type number
Default 60
Set to How many source lines around the mapped location go into the prompt.

maxDomSnippetLength

Type number
Default 1000
Set to Max characters of the captured DOM/HTML snippet.

apiOrigin

Type string | null
Default auto (loopback inspector origin)
Set to Absolute http(s)://… origin (no trailing slash) if the page must talk to a non-default inspector host. Invalid values → auto.

pathStyle

Type 'relative' | 'absolute'
Default 'relative'
Set to How source paths appear in plain @ prompts (clipboard / file / Grok). For Grok monorepos prefer agents.grokBuild.projectRoot over forcing absolute.

artifactPathStyle

Type 'relative' | 'absolute'
Default 'absolute'
Set to How screenshot / recording still paths appear in @ prompts. Absolute so agents can open images regardless of cwd; use 'relative' only if you know the agent cwd.

recording

Type boolean | object
Default off — see Recording (rrweb)
Set to true or an object to enable Record; use the object to tune buffer / mask.

agents

Type object
Default {} (all eight agents on)
Set to Per-agent enable / overrides — see Agents. Unknown keys are ignored.

sourceStamp

Type false | { include?, exclude?, escapeTags? }
Default on
Set to false turns stamping off (no warning). include stamps matching paths even under node_modules. exclude skips extra paths. escapeTags adds tags that are not stamped.

codeInspector (deprecated)

Type object
Default —
Set to Deprecated in 0.6.0, removed in 0.7.0. Only include, exclude, escapeTags, and close: true (same as sourceStamp: false) are mapped. Other keys are ignored and named in one warning.

htmlFiles (esbuild only)

Type string[]
Default scan outdir for *.html, or index.html next to outfile
Set to Explicit HTML paths to inject the bootstrap into when they are not under outdir.

root (Next.js / Angular only)

Type string
Default Next.js: the folder of the next.config.* that calls withIdeByebye; Angular: process.cwd() of ng serve
Set to The project directory, when the default is not where app/ / pages/ (Next.js) or angular.json (Angular) live.

Agents

Eight built-in agents, all on by default. Disable with agents.<name>: false or { enabled: false }. true is explicit on; an object keeps it on and overrides options. Antigravity IDE and the Antigravity CLI are built in but off until you set them — omit antigravityIde / antigravity and the footer does not change. agents.custom adds footer agents of your own — see agents.custom.

clipboard is the Copy prompt footer button (never the Enter target); clipboard: false removes that button. file has no UI entry point — no button, and never the Enter target. To get its Markdown file from the UI, set promptMode: 'file' on a footer agent: it writes the same requests/ file, then opens that app.

Key (agents.*) Adapter id Footer Purpose
clipboard clipboard yes (Copy prompt) Copy prompt to clipboard (safe fallback).
file file no Write request + prompt as Markdown under outputDir/requests/.
codexApp codex-app yes Open Codex App prefilled.
claudeApp claude-app yes Open Claude App prefilled; can attach files & folders.
cursorApp cursor-app yes Open Cursor prefilled (routes by workspace name).
grokBuild grok-build yes Open Grok Build in Terminal with prompt prefilled.
claudeCli claude-cli yes Open Claude Code CLI: prefilled via claude-cli:// in your terminal, or run in Terminal and submitted.
opencode opencode yes Open OpenCode: a prefilled desktop session (1.x on macOS), or the CLI in Terminal and submitted.
antigravityIde antigravity-ide yes, off by default Open Antigravity IDE on the project and put the prompt in the agent input.
antigravity antigravity yes, off by default Open the Antigravity desktop app and put the prompt in its composer.
agents: {
  codexApp: false,
  cursorApp: { workspace: 'my-app' },
  grokBuild: {
    permissionMode: 'plan',
    // monorepo: grok --cwd at repo root → @apps/desktop/src/…
    projectRoot: path.resolve(__dirname, '../..'),
  },
  claudeCli: { permissionMode: 'plan' }, // Terminal route only
  opencode: false, // remove a default agent
  clipboard: false,
  // Opt-in. Omit either key and that button is not registered.
  antigravityIde: true,
  antigravity: { mode: 'plan' },
}

Buttons grey out when the agent binary is missing (Grok Build: grok not on PATH and not at ~/.grok/bin/grok; Claude Code CLI: no claude-cli:// handler and no claude; OpenCode: no 1.x desktop app and no opencode CLI; Antigravity IDE: antigravity-ide; Antigravity CLI: agy, then ~/.local/bin/agy). The tooltip says what to install. Deeplink agents stay enabled; the OS reports an error if the app is not installed.

Shared footer-agent options

Codex / Claude / Cursor share these; Grok Build, Claude Code CLI, OpenCode and the Antigravity CLI reuse them for their deeplinks and Terminal launchers. Antigravity IDE ignores openCommand / openArgs — its own CLI starts the app.

Option Type Default What you can set
enabled boolean true (when using an object) false unregisters the agent.
openCommand string open / cmd / xdg-open Executable for deeplink / launcher. Override the platform default when needed.
openArgs string[] platform prefix Extra args before the URL / launcher path. Appended after the default prefix when openCommand is omitted.
promptMode 'auto' | 'file' 'auto' 'file' writes a Markdown handoff and sends a compact prompt pointing at it. In 'auto', Cursor / Grok / Claude Code CLI / OpenCode / Antigravity IDE / Antigravity may overflow to file; Claude / Codex only switch on explicit 'file'. A prompt that starts with - always uses the file pointer for Antigravity IDE, so the CLI does not treat it as a flag.

Windows

Pick with Ctrl-click (or Alt+Shift+I). Footer agents already use cmd /c start "" <url> — you do not need openCommand if Cursor / Claude / Codex / Grok / Claude Code / OpenCode are installed and their URL protocols work. On Windows, OpenCode uses its CLI unless you set agents.opencode.launch: 'app', and a claude-cli:// link longer than cmd can carry (about 8000 characters) goes to the Terminal launcher instead.

Set openCommand / openArgs only when that default fails (WSL, a custom protocol helper, or start blocked). A non-blank openCommand replaces the platform default, so pass the full cmd argv — do not set openCommand: 'start' (start is a cmd builtin) or 'xdg-open' (Linux-only). The empty "" is start's window title so the URL is not swallowed:

const windowsOpener = {
  openCommand: 'cmd',
  openArgs: ['/c', 'start', '""'],
};

ideByebye({
  agents: {
    cursorApp: windowsOpener,
    claudeApp: windowsOpener,
    codexApp: windowsOpener,
    grokBuild: windowsOpener,
  },
});

In WSL, point openCommand at wslview or explorer.exe instead of cmd.

agents.claudeApp

Option Type Default What you can set
scheme string 'claude' Deeplink scheme (claude://…). Invalid scheme fails the send.
route string 'code' Path → claude://<route>/new.
folders string[] [] (+ project root always) Extra folders opened with the project root. Relative paths resolve against process cwd.
attachFiles boolean true Attach referenced source files (and screenshots) as deeplink file params.
attachScreenshots boolean true Include screenshot artifacts. Ignored when attachFiles is false.

agents.codexApp

Option Type Default What you can set
scheme string 'codex' Deeplink scheme (codex://new).
projectRoot string Vite / bundler project root Folder opened by the deeplink. Non-empty string overrides; relative → path.resolve from process cwd.
sessions boolean | { limit?, lookbackDays?, home? } on Existing-thread list. false removes the ›. limit is 1–50 (default 20). lookbackDays defaults to 30 and uses file mtime. home overrides $CODEX_HOME / ~/.codex.

agents.cursorApp

Option Type Default What you can set
workspace string | false nearest git-root basename (else run-dir name) Workspace name Cursor routes to (not a path). Set a string if the window title differs; false omits the param.
projectRoot string unset If set, use this directory’s basename as workspace (no git walk).
mode string none Optional Cursor mode deeplink param.
promptUrlLimit number 10000 In auto mode, URL-encoded prompts over this length switch to file handoff.
scheme string 'cursor' Deeplink scheme.
authority string 'anysphere.cursor-deeplink' Change only for custom Cursor builds.
route string 'prompt' Deeplink route segment.

agents.grokBuild

Option Type Default What you can set
command string 'grok', then ~/.grok/bin/grok CLI binary. Absolute path if Node’s PATH differs from your login shell.
projectRoot string Vite / bundler project root grok --cwd and launcher cd. Relative @ refs are stripped against this root.
pathStyle 'relative' | 'absolute' 'relative' Source @ refs in the Grok prompt (scoped to Grok; prefer relative + projectRoot in monorepos).
artifactPathStyle 'relative' | 'absolute' 'absolute' Screenshot / still paths in the Grok prompt.
permissionMode string none Passed as --permission-mode (plan, acceptEdits, default, …).
promptArgLimit number 12000 In auto mode, longer prompts switch to file handoff (ARGV / ARG_MAX).
sessions boolean | { limit?, home? } on Existing-session list. false removes the ›. Only a closed session can be resumed. home overrides ~/.grok.

agents.claudeCli

On by default. Two routes:

  • Deeplink — claude-cli://open?cwd=<projectRoot>&q=<prompt> opens Claude Code in the terminal you used last (iTerm2, Ghostty, kitty, WezTerm, Alacritty, Terminal.app; $TERMINAL on Linux; Windows Terminal on Windows) with the prompt prefilled — you press Enter. The CLI registers this handler itself the first time you send a prompt in an interactive claude session, unless disableDeepLinkRegistration is set.
  • Terminal — a launcher runs claude [--permission-mode <mode>] -- "<prompt>", which submits the prompt.

launch: 'auto' uses the deeplink when the handler is registered and accepts the prompt (at most 5000 characters after the CLI's own clean-up, no control characters) and the folder (absolute, no .., no UNC or hidden characters); otherwise the Terminal launcher; with no CLI found, a deeplink carrying a file pointer. On macOS a handler whose CLI was uninstalled counts as unregistered; on Linux and Windows such a stale handler cannot be detected, so the link opens nothing — set launch: 'terminal' if that happens.

Option Type Default What you can set
launch 'auto' | 'deeplink' | 'terminal' 'auto' Pin a route. 'deeplink' never runs the launcher (long prompts become a file pointer); 'terminal' never opens the link.
command string 'claude', then ~/.local/bin/claude, ~/.claude/local/claude, then the CLI the macOS handler links to CLI for the Terminal route. Absolute path if Node’s PATH differs from your login shell.
projectRoot string Vite / bundler project root Session folder for both routes (cwd). Relative @ refs are stripped against this root.
pathStyle 'relative' | 'absolute' 'relative' Source @ refs in this prompt only.
artifactPathStyle 'relative' | 'absolute' 'absolute' Screenshot / still paths in this prompt only.
permissionMode string none Terminal route only: --permission-mode (plan, acceptEdits, …). The deeplink has no mode.
promptArgLimit number 12000 Terminal route: in auto mode, longer prompts switch to a file pointer.

agents.opencode

On by default. launch: 'auto' reads the desktop app's version on macOS:

  • OpenCode 1.x desktop — opencode://new-session?directory=<projectRoot>&prompt=<prompt> opens a new session with the prompt prefilled. The app ignores the link when it is connected to a remote server; use launch: 'terminal' then.
  • OpenCode 2.x desktop, CLI only, or not macOS — a Terminal launcher runs opencode <projectRoot> --prompt=<prompt>, which submits the prompt once the model is ready. 2.x desktops register opencode:// but drop the link, so they use the CLI that ships inside the app (OpenCode.app/Contents/Resources/opencode-cli) when opencode is not on PATH.
Option Type Default What you can set
launch 'auto' | 'app' | 'terminal' 'auto' Pin a route. 'app' always sends the deeplink with no version check (1.x desktops on Windows / Linux); 'terminal' always uses the CLI.
appPath string /Applications/OpenCode.app, then ~/Applications/OpenCode.app Desktop bundle (macOS) whose Info.plist gives the version.
command string 'opencode', then ~/.opencode/bin/opencode, then the CLI inside the app CLI for the Terminal route.
projectRoot string Vite / bundler project root Session folder for both routes. Relative @ refs are stripped against this root.
pathStyle 'relative' | 'absolute' 'relative' Source @ refs in this prompt only.
artifactPathStyle 'relative' | 'absolute' 'absolute' Screenshot / still paths in this prompt only.
promptUrlLimit number 8000 App route: an encoded deeplink longer than this switches to a file pointer.
promptArgLimit number 12000 Terminal route: in auto mode, longer prompts switch to a file pointer.

agents.antigravityIde

Off unless set. Opens the project with antigravity-ide <projectRoot>, then places the prompt in the agent input without submitting it. This IDE's antigravity-ide chat command does not reach that input. Referenced source files that stay inside the project root are mentioned with the prompt.

Option Type Default What you can set
command string 'antigravity-ide', then the macOS app bundle CLI Absolute path when Node’s PATH cannot see the shell command.
projectRoot string Vite / bundler project root Folder the IDE opens.
mode string omitted Accepted for compatibility. The agent input does not take a mode.
reuseWindow boolean false --reuse-window on the folder open. Ignored when newWindow is true.
newWindow boolean false --new-window. Wins over reuseWindow.
maximize boolean false Accepted for compatibility. Not applied to the agent input.
profile string none Accepted for compatibility. Not applied to the agent input.
addFiles boolean true false skips file mentions. Paths outside the project root are always dropped.
promptArgLimit number 12000 In auto mode, longer prompts switch to a file pointer.
experimentalSessions boolean false When true, the › lists IDE conversations and send delivers into the selected one. Off by default because it reads the language-server CSRF token from the IDE process.

agents.antigravity

Off unless set. Opens the Antigravity desktop app and writes the prompt into its composer. The button stays available when the app is installed, even if it is not running. The agy CLI is used only when the desktop app is not installed.

Option Type Default What you can set
command string 'agy', then ~/.local/bin/agy (Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\\agy\\bin\\agy.exe) Absolute path if Node’s PATH differs from your login shell.
projectRoot string Vite / bundler project root Launcher cd. Relative @ refs are stripped against this root.
pathStyle 'relative' | 'absolute' 'relative' Source @ refs in the Antigravity prompt only.
artifactPathStyle 'relative' | 'absolute' 'absolute' Screenshot / still paths in the Antigravity prompt.
mode string none Passed as agy --mode (plan, accept-edits).
promptArgLimit number 12000 In auto mode, longer prompts switch to file handoff.

agents.custom

The built-in footer agents open an app. A custom client does the opposite: it delivers the prompt into an app that is already running, so the text lands in that app's own input box — the handoff for a desktop client that previews your dev server in a webview / iframe. Declare none and nothing changes.

agents: {
  codexApp: false, claudeApp: false, cursorApp: false, grokBuild: false,
  custom: [
    // postMessage (default): the previewed page posts to the window embedding it.
    { name: 'grok-desktop', label: 'Grok Desktop', targetOrigin: 'http://localhost:1420' },
    // http: the dev server POSTs the payload to your client instead.
    // { name: 'grok-desktop', label: 'Grok Desktop', url: 'http://127.0.0.1:8787/api/prompt' },
  ],
},
defaultAgent: 'grok-desktop', // Enter targets your client
// In your client: the payload's `prompt` is ready to insert.
window.addEventListener('message', (event) => {
  if (event.origin !== previewOrigin) return;
  if (event.data?.source !== 'ide-byebye') return;
  setComposerText(event.data.prompt);
});

Recording (rrweb)

Record element behavior with rrweb: pick a scope → record → interact → stop → trim in-browser. A still frame (cropped to the scope) goes into the prompt; the raw event stream is saved for replay only. Inspector UI is excluded from every recording.

Off by default and lazy-loaded when enabled. Requires @rrweb/record + @rrweb/replay in the project.

ideByebye({
  recording: {
    maxDurationMs: 30000, // rolling buffer; clamped to 300000 (5 min)
    mask: {
      allInputs: false, // default off: keep real form state in dev
      blockClass: 'rr-block', // elements with this class are excluded
    },
  },
});
Option Type Default What you can set
recording / recording.enabled boolean | object false when omitted true or an options object shows the Record button; { enabled: false } hides it.
recording.maxDurationMs number 30000 Rolling buffer length; positive numbers only; clamped to ≤ 300000 ms.
recording.mask.allInputs boolean false true masks input values in replay / still.
recording.mask.blockClass string 'rr-block' Class marking excluded elements (non-empty string overrides).

rrweb ESM is served lazily from your node_modules at /__intent-inspector/vendor/{record,replay}. Still frames use the same SVG-<foreignObject> → canvas path as screenshots: cross-origin assets without CORS may be blank, web fonts must load, and canvas / WebGL is not captured.

Artifacts

Strongly recommend ignoring .intent-inspector/ in git.

Add this to your project .gitignore (not only this package’s):

# ide-byebye local handoffs & media (do not commit)
.intent-inspector/

If you set a custom outputDir, gitignore that path instead.

Why

Everything under outputDir is local, session-generated runtime data, not source:

Concern Detail
Ephemeral Handoff markdown, launcher scripts, screenshots, and rrweb dumps are recreated on every inspect → send. They are not the source of truth and go stale immediately.
Repo noise / size WebP screenshots and rrweb JSON can be large; committing them bloats clones and PR diffs for no review value.
Machine-specific Paths and UI state reflect your machine and current page, so they create meaningless merge conflicts and fail on other checkouts.
Sensitive by nature Artifacts can include form values, app data visible on screen, or intent text you typed for an agent. Keep them off remote history unless you intentionally share a handoff.

Written under outputDir (default .intent-inspector/):

Path Contents
requests/<timestamp>-<id>.md Full request + prompt (file agent, or any footer agent in promptMode: 'file' / auto overflow).
launches/<timestamp>-<id>.command + .prompt.txt Grok Build Terminal launcher + prompt for grok --verbatim.
launches/<timestamp>-<id>.claude.command + .claude.prompt.txt Claude Code CLI Terminal launcher (Terminal route only; the deeplink writes nothing).
launches/<timestamp>-<id>.opencode.command + .opencode.prompt.txt OpenCode Terminal launcher (Terminal route only).
launches/<timestamp>-<id>.agy-ide.command + .agy-ide.prompt.txt Antigravity IDE folder open and the prompt that was placed in the agent input (only after agents.antigravityIde is set).
launches/<timestamp>-<id>.agy.command + .agy.prompt.txt Antigravity CLI Terminal launcher (only after agents.antigravity is set).
recordings/<id>.rrweb.json + <id>.webp Event stream + still (when recording is used).
screenshot artifacts Referenced by the prompt.
next/bootstrap.js (+ .gitignore) Generated 'use client' bootstrap for next dev; rewritten on every start, never committed.

Prompt order: @code refs → Rendered styles (if attached) → intent. Absolute source paths in captured styles are kept out of deeplink prompt text.

Shipping without npm (optional)

npm run build
# → dist/code-intent-inspector.js  (embeds browser runtime)
# → dist/client.js                 (browser runtime alone)
import codeIntentInspectorPlugin from './code-intent-inspector.js';

Localization

UI copy is bilingual (zh / en). Resolves: locale config → navigator.language → zh.

ideByebye({ locale: 'en' });

Send to an existing session

Codex App, Grok Build, and (behind a flag) Antigravity IDE can take the next prompt in a session you already have. With no session picked, send behaves exactly as before: a new Codex thread, a new Grok terminal, or a new Antigravity chat. Claude Code CLI and OpenCode always start a new session.

Open the destination picker next to Send: agents that can continue a session show ›, which opens this project's sessions (title, status, directory, relative time). Pick one and the next Enter (or Send) goes to that agent and that session; the picker then reads Agent / session title. The choice is remembered per agent in localStorage. New session clears only that agent. sessions: false removes that agent's ›.

Agent Delivery What you get
Codex App Prefill Opens codex://threads/<id> with the prompt in the composer. You still press Enter in Codex.
Grok Build Resume and submit A new terminal runs grok --resume <id> and submits the prompt. A session that is already open in a terminal cannot be injected.
Antigravity IDE Direct submit The prompt is sent into the IDE conversation (not prefilled). Only when agents.antigravityIde.experimentalSessions is true.

The menu only shows sessions for the current project: the same directory, a child directory, or an ancestor that is not above the git root. Titles are a single line, capped at 120 characters. The page never receives absolute paths, process ids, transcripts, or tokens.

Antigravity stays off unless you opt in. The server talks to the IDE language server on loopback with the IDE's own CA and the CSRF token from that process. It does not read credential files.

ideByebye({
  agents: {
    codexApp: { sessions: { limit: 20, lookbackDays: 30 } },
    grokBuild: { sessions: true },
    antigravityIde: { experimentalSessions: true },
  },
});

Security & privacy

  • Dev-only — adapters skip production (Vite apply: 'serve', webpack mode === 'production', Next.js: only the next dev server process, Angular: only ng serve's proxy config).
  • Token-gated — every request carries a per-process token; browser hits 127.0.0.1, not your app origin. The only route that hands the token out is Angular's /session (created by angularProxy only): it answers same-origin page fetches on a local Host only, as non-executable JSON.
  • Project-rooted — file writes stay inside the project; the deeplink only carries what you chose to send.
  • Fixed discovery paths — agent detection only looks at known install locations (the Claude Code URL handler, OpenCode's app bundle and CLI) and --version probes. It never reads OpenCode's background-service password or Claude Code's session files.
  • Ignore artifacts — put .intent-inspector/ (or your outputDir) in .gitignore so screenshots, recordings, and handoff text never land in git (see Artifacts).
  • Style sanitization — captured style values are sanitized server-side (control characters stripped) so they can't forge extra prompt lines.
  • Existing sessions — the menu returns project-scoped titles only (no absolute paths, transcripts, or tokens). Antigravity session delivery is off unless experimentalSessions is set, and it does not read credential files. sessions: false removes that agent's menu.

Build from source

npm install
npm run build # regenerate dist/
npm test         # node:test suite

Layout: src/client/ (browser), src/server/ (loopback server + agents; ast/ per-framework locators, next/ and angular/ integrations), src/shared/ (isomorphic helpers), src/plugin.ts (unplugin factory), scripts/build-single-file.ts.
