@deflating Can we integrate Git versioning with git-tags or similar?
And also bring the current running version to the settings modal popup?
At the moment you struggle if you want to debug something and cannot compare the current master version with the local used one.

At the moment no Git Tags are used: https://github.com/deflating/tau/tags
In the package.json you find a version: https://github.com/deflating/tau/blob/main/package.json currently 1.0.9
In the Webui in an existing installation there is no chance to find out which version is used

For versioning, two lightweight suggestions that shouldn't require changes to the build setup:

1. Git tags: tag each release with git tag vX.Y.Z (matching the version in package.json) and push the tag. No CI needed — just a habit at release time, so master can be compared against a specific released version.
2. Version in the UI: since the backend already reads package.json at startup, it could expose the version via a small API endpoint (or an existing one, if there is one), and the settings modal could fetch and display it. That would let users see at a glance which version they're running, without digging through files.

Happy to help test this once it's in place, just wanted to flag a concrete direction.
