What's this proposal about? What should this wiki cover? Who's the audience?
The Career Transitions section covers QA/SDET → Dev, Dev → DevOps and Game
Dev. Data Analyst → Data Scientist comes up regularly on the subreddit and
isn't covered.
What I'd like to write, following the structure of dev-to-devops.md:
- Perspectives & advice from the community: quotes from subreddit threads,
same format and sourcing rules as the existing pages.
- Stories from the community: first-person accounts of people who've made
the move.
- Related Discussions.
Plus one section the existing transition pages don't have, which I want to
check with you before writing rather than after:
A short table of the stages people actually pass through on the way to Data
Scientist in India (Junior Data Analyst → BI Analyst → Data Analyst →
Associate MLE → Data Scientist), with typical duration and an indicative
salary range at each. The useful part isn't the numbers themselves; it's the
shape: the range widens sharply at the Data Scientist rung, which is the
concrete reason the title is worth disambiguating before accepting an offer.
Disclosure: that data comes from Aspiroo, a career-path site I build. The
figures are estimates informed by market data, and I'd label
them as such on the page along with a pointer to levels. fyi and AmbitionBox
for cross-checking. One attributed link, in the caveat block, and nothing
else. But it is my own project, so I'd rather you decide whether that's
acceptable before I write it.
If you'd prefer the page stay quote-only like the existing three, I'm happy
to write it that way instead. Either version is worth having.
