Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Redirects are now followed through consecutive permanent redirects to the final destination. If the chain reaches a removed destination, it returns an empty result; redirect cycles are reported as errors.

Walkthrough

LookupPhase.redirect_entity now follows consecutive 301 redirects. It returns an empty string for a 410 response, stops at the current entity for other statuses, and raises ValueError if an entity repeats. Tests cover redirect chains ending at a final entity or a 410 response.

No confirmed merge-blocking failure remains. The redirect change can proceed through normal checks; a cycle test would improve protection against regression.

Add a test for the cycle case.

The new ValueError path has no test. Add a test with a cycle, for example "1" to "2" and "2" to "1", both with status 301. Assert pytest.raises(ValueError), or assert the handling you choose in process.

Add a cycle-case test for LookupPhase.redirect_entity using two entities that
redirect to each other with status 301. Assert that the call raises the

159-175: Minor · Stability & Availability · Quick win

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Raise ValueError only for real cycles, and handle it in process.

The traversal raises ValueError when an entity repeats. process calls redirect_entity at Lines 215-217 and does not catch this exception. A single cyclic row in old-entity.csv therefore aborts the whole pipeline run. The old single-redirect code never raised here.

A self-redirect also triggers this. For example, the existing test uses "101": {"entity": "101", "status": "310"}. If the status were 301, the result would be an exception instead of a stable value.

Catch the error in process. Log an issue for the row, and keep the entity unchanged or blank it. Alternatively, return the last entity before the cycle.

Confirm the intended behaviour for cycles with the maintainers. Add a test for it.

digital_land/phase/lookup.py: 1

175-175: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Low value

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Guard against a missing entity key.

Line 175 reads redirect["entity"] for a 301 status. load_redirect_lookup in digital_land/pipeline/main.py stores entity as "" when the CSV field is empty. A 301 row with an empty destination then moves current_entity to "". The method returns "", which silently drops the entity as if it were a 410.

Decide whether to treat an empty 301 destination as an error. Alternatively, stop at the last valid entity.
