Core needs a verified packaging path for its two inherited Studio npm distributions before publisher cutover. This integrates the real nonpublishing build/pack/consumer workflow, the installed-wrapper asset lifecycle repair, and closed CLI diagnostics for invalid checkout/output paths.

The workflow builds the net10 CustomElements host, packs WASM, builds the existing React wrapper against that exact local archive, and verifies both original tarballs in an offline consumer with normal lifecycle scripts, ESM/CommonJS exports and a Vite build. The asset helper preserves unmanaged files through an ownership ledger and preflights collisions, modified owned files and stale deletions. Original archives, source/version/integrity metadata and bounded receipts are retained.

Closes #8679. Refs #8194 and #8216.

Current integration head: 1e852684100706c0c4993dff3f3742c2ea31c5ce; tree 0407d373f981c9b29e491b739051e200214682ea. Normal corrective merge #8686 has ordered parents 88ca815cf4d973b681449734ec9c5e088ed7629b and reviewed a221888910e96711d07e66f86f6e698edde6524b. The lead verified exact tree equality with a221 and zero integration delta. Final slice gate and verified merge.

At source a221, separate lead and independent runs each passed 26 normal + 26 optimized contracts with zero skips. All six workflows passed, with 21 terminal check entries: 14 SUCCESS and seven expected SKIPPED. Independent APPROVE + HIGH, Greptile 5/5 and completed CodeRabbit coverage passed on a221. Expected Git failures and other ordinary CLI path errors now return closed JSON without exposing stderr/tracebacks; specific admission codes and retained post-admission failure receipts remain intact.

Hosted pair run 37911724081 passed at actual source a221. The lead and independent reviewer read the original provider ZIP/artifact 11607565131 and both tarballs, complete source/integrity inventories, actual WASM exports, 1,050 ownership assets and 67 unchanged third-party lock records. Original-byte acceptance and limits. Identical merge-tree verification does not relabel this execution as a merge-head run.

Independent APPROVE + HIGH on exact integration head 1e852684100706c0c4993dff3f3742c2ea31c5ce is accepted. The lead completed two clean review passes and independently passed 26 normal + 26 optimized contracts with zero skips, actionlint, Node syntax, Python AST and diff checks. The original invalid-checkout P2 is fixed in this actual head and its thread is resolved with lead/independent evidence. Current-head Greptile 5/5 and actual CodeRabbit reviewed coverage are now complete on the same full integration SHA, with no new actionable code comments. All three inline threads are resolved. All seven exact-head workflows are now terminal SUCCESS: 24 successful check runs, seven expected conditional skips and one successful advisory status. Final integration gate. This PR merged normally into main at b286a49a25f3a85db9bdd640700118986a771023; the lead verified ordered parents [061ddf3973f6b86becaff6e927438d17d1b8065c, 1e852684100706c0c4993dff3f3742c2ea31c5ce], exact reviewed tree and all six file identities. #8679 is natively closed and accepted with all seven criteria and explicit evidence limits. No earlier-head review or cancelled CI is counted as a current-head gate.

Pre-admission errors emit closed CLI JSON and exit nonzero without creating or overwriting rejected output; retained receipts begin after admission. Asset refresh is serial rather than transactional, and I/O interruption can require reconciliation. Consumer output directories were not retained for independent replay, so consumer execution remains provider/receipt-backed. This proves package preparation/static consumption, not browser/profile or production runtime certification.

Publication, publisher/maintenance-ref activation, individually selectable product releases (#8217), controlled publisher/recovery (#8220), source archival and later full 3.10 certification remain required separate outcomes. No broad dependency upgrade, Slack integration or new React Studio implementation is included.

    • Added a non-publishing workflow to build and verify paired Studio WASM and React packages from the same source, then test them in an offline consumer app.
    • React package installation copies Studio WASM assets into the consumer app’s public directory, tracks files it manages, and rejects conflicts with unrelated or modified files.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance on the verification process, retained results, and acceptance criteria.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage for package integrity, offline installation, asset copying, module imports, and failure handling.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This change adds a nonpublishing workflow to build paired Studio npm archives from one Core source commit. It verifies archive identity and contents, tests offline installation and wrapper behavior, and retains the archives and a structured receipt.

Changes

Paired Studio npm archive proof

Layer / File(s) Summary
React wrapper asset copying
studio/src/wrappers/wrappers/react-wrapper/package.json, studio/src/wrappers/wrappers/react-wrapper/scripts/copy-elsa-studio-wasm.js, scripts/integration-program/test_prove_studio_npm_pair.py, docs/integration-program/studio-npm-pair.md
The wrapper publishes and invokes a Node script to copy WASM assets. The script validates source files and destination ownership, rejects unsafe paths and conflicts, and updates its ownership ledger. Contract tests cover the copy behavior and failure cases.
Paired archive identity and verification
scripts/integration-program/prove_studio_npm_pair.py, scripts/integration-program/test_prove_studio_npm_pair.py, docs/integration-program/studio-npm-pair.md
The proof validates source and run identity, package manifests, archive contents, and entrypoints. It stages proof metadata and local archive dependencies, then packs the WASM and React archives. Contract tests check valid and invalid archive and identity cases.
Offline consumer verification
scripts/integration-program/prove_studio_npm_pair.py, scripts/integration-program/test_prove_studio_npm_pair.py, docs/integration-program/studio-npm-pair.md
The proof installs the local archives offline and checks lockfile resolution, copied assets, ESM and CommonJS exports, and Vite output. Contract tests cover consumer installation, lockfile checks, assets, exports, and runner behavior.
Proof orchestration and retained outputs
scripts/integration-program/prove_studio_npm_pair.py, .github/workflows/studio-npm-pair.yml, scripts/integration-program/test_prove_studio_npm_pair.py, docs/integration-program/studio-npm-pair.md
The script checks the source checkout, runs the paired proof, and writes a receipt. The workflow runs focused tests, invokes the proof, checks the checkout state, and uploads retained output.

Merge Risk

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 1e852

This change adds a nonpublishing proof workflow and a guarded asset-copy script for the Studio npm packages. The remaining known concern is minor: copy-conflict errors do not name the offending path, which makes failures harder to diagnose. Merge readiness is good, though CI on this exact head is still pending.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 1e852

The packaging checks and filesystem safeguards substantially constrain the change. Remaining risk is bounded to consumer asset installation and recovery: an interrupted refresh can require manual reconciliation, and concurrent writers are not supported. No externally exploitable security regression was established.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · observed: Asset writes and stale deletions precede the ownership-ledger commit. Interruption can therefore leave assets inconsistent with the previous ledger, causing retry to reject them as modified-owned or unmanaged rather than completing recovery. This is a documented, consumer-local ownership and rollback limitation, not a verified security vulnerability. The previous copy commands were also nontransactional, but did not impose this ledger-based retry barrier.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The intended mutation scope is one invoking consumer's public assets and ownership ledger. Lifecycle processes nevertheless execute with the invoking user's filesystem authority; the helper and offline npm configuration are not OS sandboxes. No production tenant, backend data-store or publisher-authority expansion is established.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — No externally reachable attack path was established for wasm-asset-copy. Its supplied proof gap remains relevant outside the controlled proof consumer: package assets, local ownership metadata and destination state affect writes and deletions, but an external actor's ability to control those inputs is unresolved.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The workflow grants contents-read permission without persisted checkout credentials. Proof subprocesses receive an explicit environment allowlist and isolated npm configuration, home and cache, rather than inherited npm tokens or Actions authority handles.
  • inferred — The hash ledger enforces consistency and ownership during serialized copying; it does not authenticate package content or protect against an actor already able to rewrite both ledger and assets. Offline installation constrains npm resolution, not arbitrary network or filesystem activity by lifecycle code.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Preflight failures preserve existing assets, but separate validation and mutation operations provide no concurrent-writer protection. Workflow concurrency controls CI runs, not every installed helper invocation. Interrupted-copy recovery remains a documented manual responsibility.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — If this helper becomes part of unattended deployment or rollback, consider a staged generation or recovery journal with destination-scoped serialization. Preserve the current refusal to overwrite unmanaged or unexpectedly modified files while making interrupted updates recoverable.

Explanation

The implementation satisfies the main coding objectives in #8679. It adds the nonpublishing paired workflow, exact local archive checks, offline consumer checks, retained receipts, focused contracts, and the installed-wrapper lifecycle repair. The current head also includes the #8686 closed-error correction, as shown by the head merge history and the CLI regression tests. The required current-head hosted pair proof, artifact readback, independent review, CI and Greptile gates, actual main-merge tree verification, and final acceptance receipt are not established. The current description states that these gates remain pending.

Resolution

Run and retain the hosted pair proof and all required gates for current head 1e85268. Read back the original archives and receipt. Verify the actual main merge tree. Record the acceptance receipt and remaining publisher, maintenance, and archival gates.

Elsa 3 Code Review — independent integration review relay

APPROVE + HIGH @ 88ca815

Independent Luna 6 Extra High reviewed the actual merge graph and final six-file diff against main 061ddf3. Ordered parents are [061ddf3, 1d58bb1]; tree 71f45e6474908cde8db8b1e6322c213da49d82bd exactly equals the approved source tree, with zero intervening tree delta. All six file SHA-256 values and clean integration checkout were independently checked. No new material finding remains; serial refresh and early-admission diagnostic limits remain explicit.

The lead read the complete report and verified its SHA-256 7cc4eb8d321bee1790b28ea1f8dc9b819d681f435cd016ac59200cf0f54ab89c. Separate lead integration graph/tree and two clean gate reviews are bound by receipt SHA-256 97c2d4945a4e5811f1c6318d0ee309ca36489bfccfefd42b768af544a4fb1033.

This is independent source/integration approval relayed by the lead, not author self-approval. The real hosted proof and original-artifact readbacks remain attributed to source 1d58 and run 37904888872, not relabeled as execution on this merge commit. Fresh integration-head CI/Greptile and actual main merge verification remain pending; no task acceptance or publication is claimed.

Independent Elsa 3 Code Review: APPROVE + HIGH @ 1e85268 (source/integration scope).

The independent reviewer inspected the complete six-file delta against main 061ddf3973f6b86becaff6e927438d17d1b8065c, verified exact ordered merge parents/tree and A221 tree equality, and passed 26 normal + 26 optimized focused contracts. The lead fully read both reports, corrected a report-only parent-description error, verified their final hashes and all six exact Git blob identities. No high-priority source/integration finding remains.

Independent Markdown SHA-256: 8319e95c2a685491b57a0a45e459499bf141648b61673898f3da4e28a1d36521; JSON: dfa64c82e1a5b59c732ecf435d584e3bf20e5311e74895c1b5be2f9366ea6c12. The lead completed two clean integration review passes, independently passed the same 26 normal + 26 optimized contracts with zero skips, and passed actionlint, Node syntax, Python AST and diff checks. Lead QA receipt SHA-256: 463cb0945cc87a93761be32d3d08cebc48d9ac161db5a38bac409cdbf9dd73bf.

The earlier invalid-root P2 is fixed in this actual head and covered by CLI regressions; specific failure codes and no-output/no-write rejection remain intact. Original hosted artifact evidence remains attributed to actual A221/run37911724081, whose tree is identical. Consumer output directories were not retained, so their execution remains provider/receipt-backed.

Current-head hosted CI, Greptile and CodeRabbit remain pending. This independent source approval does not accept #8679, claim a main merge or certify publication, authority activation, archival, browser behavior or the broader program.

Current-head automated reviews are complete on 1e852684100706c0c4993dff3f3742c2ea31c5ce: Greptile 5/5 explicitly names this full SHA, and CodeRabbit records actual reviewed coverage of this same head with no new actionable code comments. All three inline threads are resolved after verified dispositions.

CodeRabbit's existing low diagnostic-path suggestion and documented nontransactional/concurrent-writer limits remain bounded follow-ups; the generic docstring threshold is not a repository merge gate. Its linked-issue warning correctly preserves pending CI, actual main-tree verification and final acceptance. The original hosted pair was executed at A221 and independently read back from original bytes; the lead and independent reviewer verified that this merge has the exact same complete source tree. That evidence is retained under its actual A221/run37911724081 attribution, with no claim of a separate merge-head producer run or independently replayed consumer output.

Independent APPROVE + HIGH and two clean lead reviews are accepted on this head. Remaining merge gates are exact-head hosted CI and the final live merge snapshot; #8679 acceptance additionally requires actual main merge/tree verification and its acceptance receipt. No publication, publisher/ref activation, archival or broader completion is claimed.

Final main-integration gate passed at exact head 1e852684100706c0c4993dff3f3742c2ea31c5ce against actual main 061ddf3973f6b86becaff6e927438d17d1b8065c. All seven exact-head workflows are terminal SUCCESS. The current check rollup contains 24 SUCCESS check runs, seven expected conditional SKIPPED check runs and one successful CodeRabbit status context; skips are not counted as executed proof. GitHub reports CLEAN / MERGEABLE and native closure of #8679.

Independent Elsa 3 Code Review APPROVE + HIGH, two clean lead integration passes, focused normal/optimized contracts, Greptile 5/5 and actual CodeRabbit reviewed coverage all bind this same full head. All three inline threads are resolved. The accepted original hosted pair remains source a221888910e96711d07e66f86f6e698edde6524b, run 37911724081, artifact 11607565131; its tree is identical to this integration head, without claiming a second producer run or independent consumer replay.

Final gate receipt SHA-256: 34abe1c0a32ccda48e05e4f6066bc0f2e2bd054359efe1bfe941c576cac730ad. Proceeding with a normal expected-head merge, then actual main parent/tree and Task acceptance verification. No publication, authority activation, maintenance-candidate acceptance, full browser certification or archival is included.
