Installation Guide

System requirements

  • IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition or Ultimate.
  • Plugin features target modern IntelliJ platform builds; MCP tools require IDEA 2025.2+.
  • Native context mode works best on Spring Boot 2.4+; older projects can try the registry key explyt.spring.native.old.

Using IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate? Disable its built-in Spring plugin if you see feature conflicts.

Option 1 — JetBrains Marketplace (recommended)

  1. Open Settings → Plugins → Marketplace.
  2. Search for Spring Explyt.
  3. Click Install, then restart the IDE.

Or install from the web: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/28675-spring-explyt

Option 2 — Custom repository

Step 1: Add the Explyt repository to IntelliJ IDEA

Step1 Image

  1. Run IntelliJ IDEA and go to Settings (Preferences).
  2. Switch to the Plugins section and click the Settings icon.
  3. Choose Manage Plugin Repositories.
  4. In the pop-up, click the + icon and paste: https://repository.explyt.dev/
  5. Click OK to save.

You can also download plugin zip files from releases. (Note: in this case, you will not receive automatic updates.)

Step 2: Install Explyt Spring Plugin

Step2 Image

  1. Go to the Marketplace tab in Plugins.
  2. Search for Explyt Spring.
  3. Click Install next to the plugin, then Restart IDE to activate it.

Option 3 — Manual installation

Note: manual installs do not receive automatic updates.

  1. Download a .zip from the Releases page.
  2. Go to Settings → Plugins → ⚙️ → Install Plugin from Disk.
  3. Select the downloaded .zip and restart the IDE.

First-time setup

  1. Open Tool Windows → Explyt Spring and Explyt Endpoints.
  2. Link your Spring Boot run configuration via Link Explyt Spring Boot Project From RunConfiguration.
  3. Click Load Beans to populate the runtime-accurate bean tree.
  4. Optional: enable Spring Debug and start a debug session to get runtime property Code Vision in config files (see Spring Debugger).
  5. Optional: configure .http / .rest runners in Settings → Tools → Explyt Spring (see Rest Client RFC 7230).

Troubleshooting

  • No beans / autowiring looks incomplete — run Load Beans in the Explyt Spring tool window to build the native model.
  • Sync failed due to build errors — build the project first (Build → Build Project), then sync/load again.
  • Older Spring Boot versions (< 2.4) — try enabling the registry key explyt.spring.native.old.
