Summary

Admins can start a global freeleech, either for a limited duration or with no end date. It lives in Admin → Settings → Global freeleech.

While it is active:

  • Ratio: downloaded data is not counted, so it doesn't hurt anyone's ratio. Upload is still credited normally.
  • Minimum ratio: suspended, since downloads are free anyway.
  • Torznab: reports downloadvolumefactor=0 (Prowlarr, Sonarr and Radarr show these torrents as freeleech).
  • Banner: a site-wide banner tells users, with the end date if there is one. It refreshes every 5 minutes, so it disappears on time.
  • H&R: rules are unchanged. Freeleech doesn't exempt anyone from seeding.

How it works:

  • Admin controls: enter a duration in hours, or leave it empty for no end, then click Start. Update the duration or Stop at any time.
  • Storage: the state is two settings, freeleech_enabled and freeleech_until. The end date is checked on every announce, so the freeleech ends exactly on time without any job.
  • Propagation: changes apply immediately (the settings cache is invalidated on write).

Test plan

  • npx vitest run: 143 passing, including the new isFreeleechActive tests (no end date, end date, disabled, invalid date)
  • npm run build
  • On staging, start a 1h freeleech and check:
    • the banner appears;
    • downloading a torrent leaves your downloaded counter unchanged;
    • upload is still counted;
    • a low-ratio account can download.
  • Prowlarr search shows the torrents as freeleech
  • Stop the freeleech: the banner disappears and download counting resumes

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Admins can enable global freeleech indefinitely or for a set duration, update its duration, and stop it with confirmation.
    • A banner shows when freeleech is active and, when applicable, its end date and time.
    • During freeleech, downloads don’t count toward ratio, uploads still count, minimum-ratio restrictions are suspended, and Torznab reports a download factor of 0.

- admins start a freeleech for a duration or without end, and can stop it
- while active, downloaded data is not counted (upload still is) and the
  minimum ratio is suspended
- Torznab reports downloadvolumefactor 0 during freeleech
- site-wide banner showing the end date, in english and french

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This change adds global freeleech settings with optional expiration, admin controls, and a user-facing status banner. When freeleech is active, tracker downloads do not add downloaded credit, the minimum-ratio restriction is bypassed, and Torznab items report a download volume factor of zero.

Changes

Global Freeleech

Layer / File(s) Summary
Freeleech state and activity rules
shared/utils/freeleech.ts, server/utils/settings.ts, tests/freeleech.test.ts
A shared helper determines whether freeleech is active from the enabled flag and optional expiration. Settings retrieval returns that state, and tests cover disabled, indefinite, future, expired, and invalid expiration values.
Admin controls and state API
server/api/admin/freeleech.*.ts, app/components/admin/Freeleech.vue, app/pages/admin/settings.vue, i18n/locales/{en,fr}/app.json
Admin endpoints read and update freeleech settings. The admin page adds controls to set a duration, start or update freeleech, and stop it after confirmation. English and French translations cover the controls and status text.
Tracker and Torznab behavior
server/tracker/handlers.ts, server/tracker/index.ts, server/api/torznab/api/index.get.ts
While freeleech is active, tracker announces set downloaded credit to zero and the minimum-ratio check does not block users. Torznab results report a download volume factor of zero.
User status endpoint and banner
server/api/freeleech.get.ts, app/layouts/default.vue
The authenticated status endpoint returns active status and an expiration when applicable. The layout fetches status for signed-in users, refreshes it every five minutes, and displays the localized banner while freeleech is active.

If an admin enters 0 hours, freeleech starts with no end date. If a stop request fails partway through, a timed freeleech period can become indefinite. In both cases, downloads keep being excluded from ratios when they should count. Fix both before merging.

Hide the banner when until is in the past.

The banner relies only on freeleech.active from the last poll. The poll runs every five minutes. After until passes, the banner can show for up to five minutes with an expired date. Add a client-side check against the current time.

Clear the dedupe entry when the freeleech lookup fails.

handleAnnounce writes announceDedupeCache before getFreeleechState(). If a settings read rejects, the announce exits before the stats update. A retry with the same key during DEDUPE_WINDOW_MS returns immediately. Remove the entry before rethrowing the error.

Do not fall back to credit.downloaded unless counting downloads while the freeleech state is unavailable is intended.

Reject zero hours instead of starting indefinite freeleech.

If an admin enters 0, this expression sends null. The PUT endpoint accepts null as “no end date,” so the invalid duration starts freeleech indefinitely. Send null only when the input is empty. Let the endpoint reject zero.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Clear stale freeleech state when the user signs out, and avoid overlapping requests.

loadFreeleech returns early when user.value is falsy. It does not reset freeleech.value. After logout, the layout can stay mounted, and the last banner stays visible until the next navigation unmounts it. The banner can also show an expired state until the next poll.

Also, the fetch runs only on mount. If the user signs in while the layout stays mounted, the banner does not appear until a reload.

Reset the value when no user exists. Watch user to reload the state.

Do not leave freeleech enabled indefinitely when a stop fails.

If a stop request clears FREELEECH_UNTIL and the following FREELEECH_ENABLED write fails, the stored state changes from a timed period to an indefinite one. Persist both settings atomically. At minimum, disable freeleech before clearing its end date on a stop request.
