⚠️ Built on top of #64 → #65 → #66. Merge those first, in order. This PR targets main, and its diff shrinks as they land.

Torrent list

  • Filters:
    • live search (debounced), with filters kept in the URL (search, categoryId, sort, page), so results can be shared and survive reloads;
    • categories as filter chips, with a second row for subcategories. This replaces the second sidebar, which was too heavy next to the app sidebar.
  • Real sorting: newest, oldest, largest, smallest, name. The API accepted sortBy but always sorted by date. Sorting by seeders isn't offered, because counts live in Redis.
  • Table rows:
    • category path and tags under each name;
    • a Pending badge on your own uploads awaiting approval;
    • seeders and leechers in seed/leech colors, with secondary columns hidden on small screens;
    • for staff, the delete button appears on hover.
  • States: the empty state depends on context (reset filters, or upload the first torrent), and pagination is simplified.
  • /search: it duplicated the list, so it now redirects to /torrents and keeps old links working.

Torrent page

  • Header: title, category, size, age, uploader and tags. Download is the main action, next to edit, report and delete.
  • Swarm: a strip with seeders, leechers and completed, plus a seed/leech bar.
  • Details panel: info hash with copy, date and size. The peer list is collapsible.
  • Comments: they are now displayed, with posting and deleting (author or staff). The API already returned them, but the page never showed them.
  • Report button: opens the existing report modal.

Fixes

  • Comments: posting is rate limited, and refused on a pending torrent you are not allowed to see.
  • Subcategory filter: the lookup used select, which Drizzle ignores, instead of columns.
  • Modals: upload and edit use plain labels (no more tracked capitals) and readable category paths (Movies / UHD/4K instead of ╚=> UHD/4K).

Test plan

  • npx vitest run, npm run build
  • Demo instance:
    • search, category chips and subcategories;
    • torrent page, posting a comment, edit modal;
    • dark and light themes
  • Upload a real .torrent through the restyled modal
  • Mobile width

- theme tokens as CSS variables: light, dark, or follow the system, chosen
per user (cookie, applied during SSR so there is no flash)
- meaningful colors: green for upload/seed, amber for download/leech,
violet for freeleech; contrast inks keep existing controls legible in
  both themes
- self-hosted IBM Plex Sans and Mono (Google Fonts was blocked by the CSP,
so the app silently fell back to system fonts)
- app shell: grouped sidebar (browse, community, account, staff), top bar
with a transfer meter, freeleech pill and account menu (passkey copy,
  points, theme, language)
- command palette (Cmd/Ctrl+K or /): search torrents and jump to pages
- mobile navigation drawer, skip link, visible focus, reduced motion
- dialog overlays stay dark in both themes; fix icons collapsed to zero
  width by an inline class

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- greeting, account strip (ratio with upload/download, seeding and leeching
counts, bonus points, hit & runs), staff note, new torrents, open bounties
and latest forum topics, from a single /api/dashboard request
- track per-user seeding/leeching torrents in Redis on announce
- show the admin welcome message, which was editable but never displayed
- transfer meter reads live upload/download (the sealed session only held
  the values from sign-in)

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- one conversation per pair of members, unread badge in the sidebar,
messages page with conversation list and thread, start a conversation
from a profile or by username
- block a member (they can no longer message you), hide a conversation for
yourself (it comes back on a new message)
- only participants can read a conversation, staff included; plain text
rendered as text, 1 to 5000 characters, rate limited
- conversation marked read up to the newest message shown

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- list: live search synced with the URL, categories as filter chips with
subcategories, real sorting (newest, oldest, size, name; the API ignored
sortBy until now), tags under each name, pending badge on own uploads
- /search redirects to /torrents (it duplicated the list)
- detail: prominent download, uploader, tags, swarm strip with seed/leech
bar, details panel with hash copy, collapsible peer list, report button
- comments are displayed and can be posted and deleted (the API returned
them but the page never showed them)
- comments: rate limited, no comments on pending torrents you cannot see
- upload/edit modals: plain labels, readable category paths
- fix subcategory lookup using select instead of columns

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request updates the site shell and torrent pages, adds a member dashboard backed by new server data, and introduces private messaging. It also adds theme preferences, shared visual tokens, message storage and API endpoints, and English and French translations.

Changes

Site shell and member dashboard

Layer / File(s) Summary
Theme and shared presentation
app/composables/useTheme.ts, app/assets/css/main.css, tailwind.config.ts, app/components/ThemeSwitcher.vue, app/components/UserAvatar.vue, app/components/admin/*, app/pages/auth/register.vue, app/pages/forum/index.vue, package.json
Theme preferences use a cookie and set the document’s data-theme attribute. CSS and Tailwind use theme tokens and IBM Plex fonts. Shared styling, modal overlays, warning icons, and theme controls are updated.
Navigation and account shell
app/components/shell/*, app/layouts/default.vue, i18n/locales/{en,fr}/app.json
The layout uses a responsive sidebar, command palette, user menu, transfer meter, and freeleech pill. It refreshes transfer data and unread-message counts, and includes updated announcement and footer presentation.
Dashboard data and display
server/api/dashboard.get.ts, server/redis/userActivity.ts, server/tracker/handlers.ts, app/pages/index.vue, i18n/locales/en/app.json, i18n/locales/fr/app.json
A new dashboard endpoint returns account, activity, and recent-content data. Tracker announces record or remove per-user seeding and leeching activity. The dashboard displays account details, torrents, bounties, and forum topics.

Torrent discovery and details

Layer / File(s) Summary
Torrent listing and table
app/pages/torrents/index.vue, app/components/TorrentTable.vue, app/components/CategorySidebar.vue, app/components/SearchBar.vue, app/pages/search.vue, server/api/torrents/index.get.ts, server/utils/schemas.ts, i18n/locales/{en,fr}/app.json
The listing adds URL-synced search, category filters, sorting, and pagination. The table displays category paths, tags, statistics, and conditional delete controls. The old sidebar and SearchBar are removed, and the search route redirects to the listing.
Torrent detail and upload workflows
app/pages/torrents/[hash].vue, app/components/EditTorrentModal.vue, app/components/UploadTorrentModal.vue, app/components/MediaIdsFields.vue, server/api/torrents/[hash].get.ts, server/api/torrents/[hash]/comments.post.ts, i18n/locales/{en,fr}/app.json
Torrent details add uploader and tag metadata, comments, reporting, and a revised peer list. The server returns uploader data and applies visibility checks and rate limiting to comment posts. Upload and edit modal labels and category-path separators are updated.

Private messaging

Layer / File(s) Summary
Conversation storage and rules
server/db/migrations/0014_private_messages.sql, server/db/schema.ts, server/utils/messageRules.ts, tests/message-rules.test.ts
The database adds conversation, membership, message, and block tables. Shared rules handle pair keys, message normalization, unread status, and conversation visibility, with tests for those rules.
Conversation and message API
server/utils/messages.ts, server/api/messages/*
New endpoints list conversations, load and reply to threads, start conversations, block users, hide conversations, and return unread counts. Shared utilities enforce conversation membership, apply block checks, and send messages in a transaction.
Messaging interface and unread indicators
app/pages/messages.vue, app/pages/users/[id].vue, app/composables/useUnreadMessages.ts, app/components/shell/AppSidebar.vue, i18n/locales/{en,fr}/messages.json, nuxt.config.ts
The messaging page supports conversation lists, threads, replies, pagination, blocking, and hiding. Profiles link to message composition, and unread counts appear in shared navigation.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 7a283

The redesign is broadly sound, but there are a few bounded issues to address. A Redis hiccup can disrupt tracker announce bookkeeping. Old bookmarked sort links show an empty torrent list. Some elements lose contrast in the light theme. These can be fixed as small follow-ups or before merge.

Inline comments:
Review comments at @app/components/shell/CommandPalette.vue:
- Around line 156-170: Update the debounced query watcher in CommandPalette so
the short-term branch clears loading before returning, and only the response for
the current query updates torrents and clears loading. Leave loading unchanged
when an older request resolves.

Review comments at @app/components/shell/UserMenu.vue:
- Around line 157-160: Update the user ID watcher in UserMenu.vue to reset
points and avatarUrl alongside passkey whenever the user changes, and call
loadAccount() when id is set; preserve closing the menu when no id is present.

Review comments at @app/pages/messages.vue:
- Around line 296-309: Add try/catch handling to the $fetch calls in toggleBlock
and hideConversation, assigning error.value = errorText(err) when either request
fails; keep each function’s existing success behavior unchanged.

Review comments at @app/pages/torrents/[hash].vue:
- Around line 338-342: Update deleteComment to catch failures from the delete
request and show the error using the existing comment feedback state and
message; move refresh into a finally path so the list refreshes after either
success or failure.

Review comments at @app/pages/torrents/index.vue:
- Around line 49-51: Update the active branch of the category chip class binding
in the top-level category filter to use theme tokens instead of fixed white and
black colors, while preserving its transparent border and the existing inactive
classes.
- Line 146: Validate the route query value when initializing sort in the sort
ref: accept only the supported sort options (uploaded, name, or size with their
permitted orders) and fall back to uploaded:desc for any other value. Keep the
existing downstream sort parsing unchanged.

Review comments at @server/api/dashboard.get.ts:
- Line 50: Add a fallback to the getStatsMany call in the dashboard handler so a
rejected stats lookup yields an empty Map and the dashboard can still render.

Review comments at @server/api/messages/[id].get.ts:
- Line 18: Update the query validation in the messages handler around
querySchema.parse so malformed before or limit values produce a 400 response
instead of an unhandled 500; use the established getValidatedQuery pattern or
map the validation error to 400, consistent with validateBody.

Review comments at @server/api/messages/block.post.ts:
- Around line 20-24: In the block handler, validate that userId belongs to an
existing user before inserting into schema.userBlocks, and return a 404 when it
does not; alternatively, map the foreign key violation from the insert to a 404
while preserving other error handling.

Review comments at @server/api/messages/index.get.ts:
- Around line 13-26: Move the visibility check from the in-memory
`memberships.filter(isConversationVisible)` step into the query’s `.where()`
clause, using `or(isNull(cm.hiddenAt), lt(cm.hiddenAt, c.lastMessageAt))` before
`.limit(100)`. Remove the redundant post-query filtering so hidden conversations
do not consume the result limit.

Review comments at @server/api/torrents/index.get.ts:
- Around line 64-70: Add `schema.torrents.id` as a secondary ascending sort key
in the `orderBy` clause so pagination remains deterministic when rows share the
selected sort value. Keep the existing primary sort and order unchanged.

Review comments at @server/tracker/handlers.ts:
- Line 187: Handle failures from the dashboard-only activity updates in the
announce handler: catch and log rejections from both removeUserPeer and
recordUserPeer so they do not prevent subsequent HnR or completed-download
tracking. Keep the change scoped to these calls.

Review comments at @server/utils/messages.ts:
- Around line 64-75: Update sendPrivateMessage to verify the recipient exists
and is not banned before allowing a conversation or message; reject banned
recipients using the existing error-handling pattern, while preserving the
current self-message and block checks.

Review comments at @tailwind.config.ts:
- Around line 44-47: Keep the white and black contrast aliases in the Tailwind
theme for contrast controls, and update fixed-color uses to use fixed tokens
instead: use a fixed white token for logo tiles and scrim for black shadows so
these elements do not change with the theme.

- closed mobile drawer is invisible so its links leave the tab order;
the sidebar gets a landmark label instead of an action label
- command palette drops late search answers and resets on close, and
returns focus to the element that opened it
- passkey copy only shows Copied when the clipboard write succeeds
- account switch clears the previous balance and avatar
- theme cookie is validated, unknown values fall back to system
- fixed colors: paper (white) for text on colored fills and uploaded
logos, scrim for shadows, so they do not flip with the theme

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- user activity tracking errors are logged instead of failing the
announce (and skipping H&R and completion tracking after it)
- the dashboard falls back to empty swarm counts when stats are
unavailable instead of returning a 500

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- banned or missing recipients are refused (404) for new conversations
  and replies alike
- blocking an unknown user id returns 404 instead of a 500
- malformed ?before / ?limit return 400 instead of a 500
- hidden conversations are filtered in SQL so they do not use up the
100-row limit and push older visible ones out of the list
- block and hide failures show an error instead of an unhandled
  rejection

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- unknown ?sort values fall back to newest instead of an empty list
- the torrent list orders by id after the chosen column, so offset
pagination cannot repeat or skip torrents with equal size or name
- failed comment deletions show an error and refresh the list
- delete button text uses the fixed white on the red fill
