chore: CI self-repair storm loop: unbounded retries + cross-project item misattribution - #804
Conversation
**Bug A (self-repair retry-cap storm)** — `src/supervisor.rs`: - Generalized `repair_track`/`persist_repair_track`/`maybe_post_repair_complete_summary` (previously hardcoded to CodeRabbit's metadata keys) to take key/marker parameters, reused by both CodeRabbit and the new CI-self-repair/merge-conflict paths. - Gave `RepairTrigger` its own `announced_key`/`silent_key`/`completed_key`/`fingerprint` methods, with separate metadata namespaces per trigger (`ci_self_repair_*` vs `conflict_repair_*`) so one trigger's cap can't block the other. - `self_repair_or_gate` now fingerprints "what's wrong" (sorted failing checks, or a constant for merge conflicts), backstops the comment-count cap with a metadata silent-attempt counter, and re-dispatches silently for an unchanged fingerprint instead of re-posting the announcement — mirroring `coderabbit_repair_or_gate`'s existing item #633 fix. - Added the missing completion-summary hook: `handle_pr_status`'s `Passing` arm now posts a one-time "CI self-repair complete" / "merge-conflict repair complete" comment once checks go green, for whichever trigger was actually announced. - New test file `src/supervisor_self_repair_tests.rs` covers: fingerprint stability, capping after `SELF_REPAIR_CAP + 5` calls with zero real comment-count growth (the actual live failure mode), silent redispatch for both triggers, and the completion summary posting exactly once. **Bug B (project_dirs N:1 collision)** — `crates/agentflare-backend/src/project_dir.rs` + `src/mcp_server/project_resolution.rs`: `upsert` now refuses to hand a `folder_path` to a different `project_id` than the one that already owns it (first-registrant-wins), and `register_project_dir` logs a warning instead of silently swallowing the refusal. New regression tests at both the backend and `resolve_project`-integration level. **Incidental but necessary fix**: found and fixed a real pre-existing bug in `agentflare-backend/src/comment.rs` — `list_by_item`/`is_latest` tie-broke same-second comments on `id`, but comment ids are random nanoids, not time-ordered (the code's own comment wrongly claimed UUIDv7), so same-second comments were being returned out of order. This directly undermined `maybe_post_repair_complete_summary`'s "find what the repair run reported" lookup and was already failing `coderabbit_repair_posts_a_completion_summary_exactly_once` on master. Fixed by tie-breaking on SQLite's implicit `rowid` (true insertion order) instead; updated the one test (`item_comment_edit_uses_id_tiebreak_when_timestamps_collide` → `..._insertion_order_tiebreak_...`) that had encoded the old buggy behavior as its spec. **Verification**: `cargo fmt --check` clean, `cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets` clean (no new warnings), full `cargo test --workspace` run twice — 1963 passed, only 3 pre-existing failures remain (`optimize_review_returns_full_skill_body`, two `item_status_tests`), independently confirmed failing on clean `master` before any of this work, unrelated to these changes. Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to This change narrows CI repair storms and folder collisions but leaves gaps. A second project that resolves from an already registered checkout can take over GitHub bridge polling while the folder remains owned by the first project. Concurrent registrations can still produce duplicate folder owners. Under persistence failures, repeated repairs can bypass the retry cap. The directory registration consistency and cap counting should be addressed before merging. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 4 | ❌ 1❌ Failed checks (1 warning)

Enforce folder ownership atomically.
If two connections register the same new folder concurrently, both SELECTs can find no owner. Both inserts can then succeed because project_dirs does not require folder_path to be unique. This recreates the multiple-owner state that the check intends to prevent. Add a unique constraint on folder_path after resolving existing collisions, and map its constraint failure to Error::Duplicate. The sequential test does not cover this case. Check folder ownership before updating bridge_repos.
If a second project resolves from an already registered GitHub checkout, resolve_project updates bridge_repos before this call rejects the project_dirs registration. bridge_repo::upsert replaces the existing repo’s project_id, so the bridge can poll for the second project while project_dirs still belongs to the first. Check ownership before either registry write, or make the two writes one consistent operation. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Encode failing-check names without ambiguous separators.
For example, ["a,b", "c"] and ["a", "b,c"] both produce a,b,c. If the failing checks change between those sets, the supervisor treats the new failure as an unchanged fingerprint and suppresses its announcement. Use an unambiguous encoding, such as JSON serialization of the sorted names.

Keep completion outcomes within their repair dispatch.
If CI repair is announced and merge-conflict repair runs afterward, the CI completion lookup can select the conflict job’s later WORK_SUCCESS_MARKER. Both completion comments can then attribute the conflict job’s report to their own repair. Limit the outcome search to the selected dispatch’s job, or stop at the next repair dispatch of any trigger.

Count every successful dispatch in persisted metadata.
If list_by_item returns an empty or stale list and the failing-check set changes between attempts, prior_markers remains zero. Each changed fingerprint skips silent_bump, so prior_attempts also remains zero. The supervisor can then enqueue repairs without reaching SELF_REPAIR_CAP. Persist a total dispatch count that does not depend on marker visibility, while retaining marker counting for older items.
