fix(supervisor): resource dispatch gate has no reset mechanism, stays paused indefinitely - #805
Conversation
…643) A gate paused on AGENTFLARE_DISPATCH_GATE_MODE=off baked into the daemon's environment had no way to clear short of env-var archaeology, and `agentflare daemon restart` didn't help since restart just re-reads the same stuck env var on every startup. Add agentflare_resource_gate::force_resume()/clear_force_resume(): a sticky override that turns a stuck GateMode::Off into GateMode::Auto on every sampler tick until cleared, applied immediately rather than waiting for the next 30s sample. Genuine CPU pressure (PauseReason::CpuPressure) is untouched by the override, since that's the exact protection the gate exists for. Expose it via GET/POST /api/gate and /api/gate/reset on the dashboard (the gate's state lives in that process, split into its own dashboard/gate.rs module to stay under the LOC gate), and `agentflare daemon gate status`/`agentflare daemon gate reset` in the CLI to reach it over HTTP. The dashboard API exposes gate status and reset routes. The daemon CLI adds status and reset commands that call those routes. ChangesResource Gate Controls

Protect /api/gate/reset when --yes-expose is enabled.
The default bind is loopback-only, but --yes-expose permits non-local binds without authentication. The merged router has no authorization check, and gate_reset_handler directly calls force_resume(). Any client that can reach the listener can therefore clear the off gate. Require an authorized caller for this endpoint, or keep it loopback-only.

…force_resume CodeRabbit review on PR #805 flagged two races: the periodic sampler computed its decision outside the STATE write lock, so it could clobber a force_resume()'d state with a stale Paused(UserDisabled) decision for up to 30s; and clear_force_resume() only cleared the flag without refreshing STATE, so current_policy() kept returning the resumed policy until the next sampler tick. Both now sample while holding the write lock. …olicy() reads (#806) Serializing writers by holding STATE's RwLock write guard across sample_policy() (per CodeRabbit's suggested fix on PR #805) fixed the stale-overwrite race but introduced a new problem: sample_policy() sleeps ~250ms inside Signals::sample()'s CPU probe, and holding the write guard across that sleep blocks current_policy()'s .read() on the hot dispatch path it's supposed to be a cheap read from. Add a separate WRITER_LOCK mutex to serialize the sampler thread against force_resume()/clear_force_resume() (fixing the original race) while keeping STATE's write guard held only for the final assignment, so readers never block on the slow sample. Also dedupe force_resume/clear_force_resume into a shared set_force_resume() helper. Committed clean. Final summary:
What I did: Fixed the "5th gap" from #635/#636/#638 — the resource dispatch gate had no reset/unpause path when stuck on
AGENTFLARE_DISPATCH_GATE_MODE=off, anddaemon restartdidn't clear it since restart just re-reads the same stuck env var.crates/agentflare-resource-gate/src/gate.rs: addedforce_resume()/clear_force_resume()/force_resume_active(). A sticky atomic override makes the sampler treat a stuckGateMode::OffasGateMode::Autoon every tick until cleared, applied immediately rather than waiting up to 30s. It never overrides genuinePauseReason::CpuPressure— that's self-clearing and is exactly what the gate protects against.src/dashboard/gate.rs(new module):GET /api/gate(status) /POST /api/gate/reset, since the gate's state lives in the daemon process, not the CLI's. Split into its own module (matching the existingchat.rspattern) to stay under the repo's 1500-line LOC gate onserver.rs.src/dashboard/data.rs:gate_status_json()helper, following the existingclaims_json/cost_jsonconvention.src/cli/daemon.rs: newagentflare daemon gate status/agentflare daemon gate resetsubcommands that hit the dashboard over HTTP (default127.0.0.1:35273, matchingagentflare serve's default).Tests/verification (all run synchronously, foreground):
cargo test -p agentflare-resource-gate— 28/28 pass, including a new single consolidated test for the force-resume override (deliberately one test, not three, sinceFORCE_RESUMEis a shared static and parallel test threads would race on it).cargo check -p agentflare --all-targets— clean (only pre-existing unrelatedunsafe-lint warnings elsewhere).cargo clippy --locked -p agentflare --all-targets --all-features -- -D warnings -A unsafe_code -A clippy::pedantic— clean.cargo fmt --all --check— clean.LOC gatepre-commit hook passed.Concerns: I didn't add a
config.tomlreset path (epic #331 isn't live yet, matches existing convention of env-var-only config here). Didn't wire an autostart/systemd re-exec offorce_resumeon daemon crash-restart — since the override lives in-process, a full daemon process restart still requires callingdaemon gate resetagain if the env var is still set; that's expected given the daemon completely re-execs. Not pushed, per instructions.Opened by
