…pr_status chunk GitHub reports a missing PR as prN: null plus a NOT_FOUND error. The early return on any GraphQL errors defeated the existing null-alias skip, so stale numbers blinded the review sweep to every PR in the chunk (image-qc #422 never merged). Tolerate errors that are all NOT_FOUND on a repository.pr<N> alias; any other error still fails the chunk. 🌐 Web query:
GitHub GraphQL API nested NOT_FOUND error pullRequest commits statusCheckRollup partial response non-null parent
💡 Result:
If you’re asking why a nested `NOT_FOUND` error can null out a larger part of a GitHub GraphQL response: **that’s GraphQL non-null error propagation, not necessarily a failure of the whole request.**
GitHub’s schema declares `PullRequest.commits` as `PullRequestCommitConnection!`—the connection itself is non-null. The `Commit.statusCheckRollup` field, by contrast, is nullable. ([docs.github.com](https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud%40latest/graphql/reference/pulls?utm_source=openai))
So if resolving a nested field such as `statusCheckRollup` fails with `NOT_FOUND`, GraphQL can return the error and partial data. If the failing field—or another field affected by the error—is non-null, `null` propagates upward until it reaches a nullable parent. Sibling data may remain; if every field up to the root is non-null, `data` becomes `null`. Check the error’s `path` to identify the original failing field; it may point to a field omitted from the returned data because of propagation. ([spec.graphql.org](https://spec.graphql.org/September2025/?utm_source=openai))
**What the sources don’t establish:** they don’t explain why GitHub returned `NOT_FOUND` for your particular commit or rollup. Without the exact query, error `path`, and response, it’s not possible to tell whether the cause is an unavailable resource, access context, or another GitHub-side condition.

🌐 Web query:
GitHub GraphQL API "NOT_FOUND" error path nested field statusCheckRollup commits pullRequest
💡 Result:
A `NOT_FOUND` error at a path like `pullRequest → commits → statusCheckRollup` means GitHub couldn’t resolve or expose a resource at that point in the query. The path identifies the failing **response field**; it doesn’t by itself prove the PR or commit is missing. GitHub’s schema supports `statusCheckRollup` on both pull requests and commits. ([docs.github.com](https://docs.github.com/de/graphql/reference/pulls?utm_source=openai))
Check these first:
- **Access and permissions:** Confirm the token can access the repository and the app installation includes it. For a GitHub App, status-check data may require the relevant repository permissions; the exact requirement depends on which data the query selects. ([docs.github.com](https://docs.github.com/en/rest/authentication/permissions-required-for-github-apps?utm_source=openai))
- **Resource and query:** Verify the PR number/repository, and inspect the exact error path—including any list indexes—to see whether it points to a particular commit or rollup.
- **Compare with a simpler query:** Query the PR’s `number` and `commits { totalCount }`, then add `statusCheckRollup { state }`. If the simpler query works but the rollup fails, that narrows the problem to rollup access/data.
If you share the exact GraphQL error JSON and query (with tokens removed), I can help pinpoint it. **Unresolved:** without those, the message alone can’t distinguish a missing resource from access being restricted.

Accept NOT_FOUND only when the requested PR alias is null.
only_missing_pr_errors accepts a nested path such as ["repository","pr1","commits","nodes",0,"commit","statusCheckRollup"]. GitHub can return NOT_FOUND for a nested unavailable field, and statusCheckRollup is nullable, so pr1 can remain non-null. parse_batch_pr then produces empty checks and a None rollup_state. When the PR is otherwise reported as clean and mergeable, pr_ci_status_from_batch can return Passing from this incomplete data.
Require an exact two-element path, verify that the alias was requested, and verify that the response contains that alias as null.

Fixes #356.
Symptom: image-qc PR #422 (approved, CLEAN, CI green) never merged. The daemon log repeated
batch PR status GraphQL query failed for 36 PR(s) in getappz/image-qc ... NOT_FOUND pr683, ....Cause: GitHub reports a missing PR as
prN: nullplus aNOT_FOUNDerror.batch_pr_statusreturned Err on any top-levelerrors, which defeated its own null-alias skip, so stale numbers (instadocs items #45-54 hold agentflare PR numbers) blinded the sweep to the whole chunk, #422 included.Fix: tolerate errors that are all
NOT_FOUNDon arepository.pr<N>alias. Any other error (rate limit, mixed) still fails the chunk.Tests:
batch_pr_status_survives_not_found_for_one_number,batch_pr_status_still_fails_on_other_graphql_errors. 20/20 graphql tests pass; fmt and the CI clippy command are clean.Note: local link needed
